  1. That was another clean up job by Rick P. Maybe this is his night. Pitch count is low for having to work out of each inning. Lots of first pitch strikes is often the key to winning the individual battles and Rick has that going on. Seeing Altuve go down twice is a treat. Third time around, not so sure what will happen.
  2. X single handedly erased his rare double.
  3. xander F bogaerts
  4. Maybe Rick could just walk the leadoff man next inning and save a base or 3. He did pitch his way out of the leadoff double though with no damage. How do the Astros have a back up catcher hitting in the .280's with .315 over the last several games.? Our 3 combined , including Swihart aren't a cumulative .600
  5. And Sam Travis who could possibly be Swihart's replacement was hitting low .200's in Pawtucket before tthe call up.
  6. Changes the game and helps a lot when the bottom of the lineup doesn't go 3 for K's. Looks like Morton woke up.
  7. On the other hand, guys like Porcello drive you crazy . Does exactly the wrong thing. Long game in front of us tonight
  8. Gotta love players like Moreland who made the day with that 2 out, 2 run shot. Also they ran Morton's pitch count up to 28 so he may not last as long as the Astros were hoping. What's the deal with Bogaerts hitting low .200's since May 1 ? Hot start, DL, can't even move Benintendi up after his lead off double. Now just let Porcello go on cruise control and this one is over, we wish.
  9. It is amazing that with a constantly changing lineup and multiple regulars hitting below .200 , plus Devers errors/K's, that this team is still baseball's best win machine. Take it and be glad. It may be a long season but it will still come down to Astros, Yankees, Red Sox, a non descript AL Central team, maybe the Mariners hang on. The AL has 4 teams with win %'s above .617 (Astros, Mariners, Yankees, red Sox)) and the NL has exactly one ( Brewers) . I don't think Pedroia can be counted on except as a spot starter/PH'er. Probably will need to get a lot more out of Nunez and Holt to keep the bus rolling. Maybe Devers can get hot at some point or maybe he needs some retraining in R.I. The overall pitching picture is far from clear and I'mm sure DD is looking at the possibilities of picking up a veteran starter later in summer . Both Fister and Peavy might be available.
  10. Pretty significant win for #40. Especially if they pull one off tomorrow and leave with a split of 4 games. Definitely needed it over a team and pitcher that has owned them in recent years. Price stumbled but held on until the HR's could show up. Joe Kelly, consider what yo do and then think about other things. You are a test of patience.
  11. Pedroia and Betts on the DL. This is a lineup mess for Cora to sort out. Sam Travis is welcome in town because Blake Swihart is now #24 on the roster. Matybe 23 dpending on whether Brian Johnson gets in another game. A win today would be a huge statement. Just wanting Price to keep the Astros off balance and scoreless all night.
  12. You are correct. In order to get tot he Series, you will have to beat the Astros and /or the Yankees. Despite the best record in baseball, the 40th win may have to wait a few more days. Pedroia will be a part timer all season. Betts' injury came in warm ups. But the real story is the starting pitching. Right now , it's a box of chocolates
  13. When the wheels come off Joe Kelly, you are running on rims throwing sparks everywhere.
  14. In which game ??? 2012??
  15. Mike trout usually hits #2 for the Angels, but they are still the Angels with no serious pitching sort of like another team.
  16. That was an odd one especially with the potential tying run at third. Even Devers might get lucky and drop one , although predictably that did not happen. Cora's thinking must have been that he could Swihart to 2nd easily and IF Devers got a hit he would get the lead, But like a lot of other what ifs , this one did not pan out.
  17. Not 100% positive but I think the difference is that Castillo, not on the 40 man roster, could be signed by another team , probably for no compensation, if they will pick up his contract balance. Sandoval and Ramirez balance dues count towards luxury tax because they were protected by the 40 man inclusion and are owed their contract sums. Baseball needs NFL type contracts where a cut player only gets the current year of a non guaranteed portion of the contract.
  18. Ok, called it. When Cora needs help motivating them call 702 555-1212
  19. The hitters are getting hard to watch. Time for a breakout inning by Boston, not Toronto who just tied it up.
  20. Credit Price for being tough after taking that shot to the chest and getting himself out of trouble . However , at 49 pitches through 2 , he will have trouble getting through 5 with or without a bad bruise. Starters just not getting any depth for Boston leaving the bullpen vulnerable. We'll see what happens
  21. The lineup shuffle continues. The Oh for season Pedroia gets off his feet and Betts is clearly deeply wounded. It will be interesting to see how they respond today against an inferior pitcher after yesterday's overmatch. Time to get back on the winning side
  22. You just did and this particular game truly sucked
  23. A real phone it in, dog ate my homework effort. But keep winning series no matter how and they will keep the East title.
  24. It is a regrettable but true mathematical possibility that Pedroia goes 0 for the season with 367 flyballs to right field. Not likely but trending that way.
  25. The comment after Porcello's POS start this week was that every once in a while the team and/or pitcher throws a clunker. Well, here's 2 in a week . Constant lineup shuffling due to injury, rest or DFA's. They should all get participation trophies today, especially if they rally to win it.
