  1. There's still bad teams in the NHL, but not as many as in the 3 other sports.
  2. I do agree with the 'solid floor' concept. Solid ceiling and solid floor; wouldn't live in a house that didn't have both.
  3. No, I think the NHL is doing fine.
  4. Here's a question I'd like your response to. Should MLB place a solid ceiling on a team's payroll similar to what the NHL is doing?
  5. Yup, you're right. Charlie Finley saw the future and sold his team in 1980.
  6. I've got no problem how much a player is paid. If the market says he's worth 30mil/yr that's fine by me. What I am against is long-term contracts. This ******** about security puts all the risk on ownership and none on the players. I believe 5 years should be the max years on a contract. Of course, that's never gonna happen. This is just my take.
  7. Unfortunately, a team isn't just dealing with the player(s); a team also has to deal with agents, the Boreasses of the world. I do agree that if a FO negotiates with a player very early in his career, the FO has a better chance of making a favorable long term deal, but at the same time the risk factor also increases.
  8. I believe we all are.
  9. Last places are a drag, no doubt. But if we were all asked back in let's say 2000 would you accept 5 last place finishes and 4 championships in the next 22 years? I'm pretty sure the vast majority would say yes, let that happen.
  10. If winning WS are the benchmark for a successful baseball franchise, then JH has been the most successful owner since the turn of the century. Whether one agrees or not with the deals and money spent, the results ended in 4 championships and there's 29 other teams out there who would love those kind of results.
  11. Are the Angels having a 'going out of business' sale? Buy one, get the other for free.
  12. One big thing Devers has on his side is JH won't be spending that 300 mil on a FA, based on the SOX history of FA signings under JH. I'd be very surprised if the SOX don't re-sign Devers.
  13. That may be one big reason the team's up for sale.
  14. Having said this, I have no idea what the Angels' long range plans are.
  15. So far the Dodgers have won one championship with Betts. If the Dodgers win 2 or 3 more with Betts, then I believe the Dodgers' FO will say it was worth the 12yr/365mil contract. If the Dodgers don't win another championship or even if they win one more, they may believe it was a bad move. The SOX won one championship with JD. Does that make his 5 year contract worth it? I say it does. Big money is spent on players to win WS, not to just have the best regular season record.
  16. "I've fallen and I can't get up." It'll be at least 3 years before that cry for help is answered.
  17. 3 more walks and a grand salami and this game is tied.
  18. If he doesn't, he'll make a big 'splash' in the Charles River.
  19. Damn, I had him as one of the 3 good pieces of chocolate. Oh, well.
  20. Barnes was due to be Barnes.
  21. Never a good thing when the opposing team is going thru their 5th at bats.
  22. Mediocre? That ship has sailed. The SOX are approaching terrible..
  23. 1-2-3 inning; way under 20 pitches. I say extend his contract.
  24. He just barely missed his helmet on that last swing.
  25. Eventually, Devers is gonna hit his helmet out of the park.
