What was that all about? Not allowing Pivetta the chance for a win? Is this some form of punishment? Is it about going against the line-up for the 3rd time?

I've never considered EO more than just an above average starting pitcher. IOW, if he's the #1 starter on a team, that team's starting pitching is hurting.
What we've been seeing since the break makes not trading Kenley and O'Neill a bad decision. Especially, when the best starter the SOX could grab was Paxton.
When it comes to SOX pitching, be afraid, be very afraid. Not sure if the SOX averaging over 6 runs per game since July 1st is sustainable thru the end of the season.
