Apparently there were two sections of the CF wall. The wall where Willie was running toward when he made the catch was 450 feet. Just to the left is the deepest part of CF at 483 feet.

I just checked. CF wall at the Polo Grounds was 483 feet from home plate. Vic's fly ball traveled 420 feet.

It was in one of those world series games that Mays made that great catch of the ball hit by Vic Wertz at the Polo Grounds. In fact, that catch could have only been made at the Polo Grounds. I believe CF was 450 feet from home plate.

I guess you could also add the pitch count as another reason.

Both Jim Rice and Ron Santo were inducted long after they should have been. Rice and the press didn't get along too well, so there's that. The only thing I know about Santo is that he was inducted 2 years after his death. Hopefully, Evans will be inducted while he's alive.
