    No doubt about that. As a fan I loved the game more when the players were playing for their jobs and salaries each year. As a player, I would love long-term contracts. So what was good for the players was,imho, bad for the fans.

    Who was that Yankem pitcher who kept throwing at Youk's head? I'm too lazy to look it up.

    Back in the days before long-term contracts, when most players were on one-year contracts, baseball was a much meaner and brutal game. Not a whole lot of fraternizing with the opposition. I still never understood throwing at the batter who happened to be batting after the guy who hit the dinger.

    True, but leaning in to get hit by pitch is completely bush. Something that A-roid used to do a lot.

    It's ironic that about 6 years ago Richards was one of the best pitchers in the game until he severely injured his leg covering 1st base here at Fenway.

    Richards has nasty stuff and as his confidence rises after each start, his stuff will be even nastier.

    My take on the SOX at this point is that the offense will come around(too many proven hitters), the starting pitching has been, for the most part, good(imho, better than expected) although I'd like to see more 6 innings starts. The defense is good enough. The major concern from my perspective is the BP. Getting from the 6th inning to Barnes has been tough, however I believe that more 6 inning starts would improve the BP. IOW, with 124 games remaining I still see this team as PO competitive.

    It's still too early to see any patterns yet, but your point is well taken.

    After the more than a year of what we've had to deal with, SOX baseball not being life or death has never been more accurate.

    If MLB's biggest concern is shortening the time of the games, well, lately, the SOX offense has done its share in achieving that.

    Are you saying you won't be deceived again if the SOX go on another long winning streak? I have admitted that I will get fooled again.
