  1. I have always felt that when you start making or accepting excuses, it will only generate more excuses. Within reason, I think it is best to be results oriented. Feel free to disagree, but it has worked well for me.
  2. Sweep the hapless Royals and the mood will swing upwards again.
  3. After three terrific seasons , the Sox were ten games over .500 on the day that Dombrowski was unjustifiably terminated. He made the mistake of ignoring the bullpen . That and injuries to what seemed to be a strong rotation killed the team's chances to repeat. But he should not have been fired. That was a big mistake.
  4. NOTICE: I am saving up my pennies to purchase Talksox. When the sale is completed, I am going to rename it " Y ". Then I am going to permanently ban anyone who ticks me off. You have been warned.
  5. I never liked report cards.
  6. Regarding last night's debacle: If Cora and Bloom are on speaking terms, the bullpen situation should have been discussed before the game. A roster move could have been made to provide a relatively healthy and fresh arm. There seems to be a disconnect in communication here.
  7. How many games would a replacement win if a replacement could win games ?
  8. I don't think it takes all that much to turn a team around. Especially a team with resources like the Yankees. The difference between the good teams and the mediocre ones is not that great. They need at least a couple of their young prospects to click. Provide a little energy and enthusiasm. And they need to correct the mistakes made in roster construction , like becoming much too right handed. Determine what the problems are and act to correct them. It is doable if they are smart about it. But are they ?
  9. This Mookie debate goes on and on for one big reason. Mookie Betts is a truly great ballplayer. Not just very good, but great. One of the best you will see in a lifetime. By all accounts he is also a great guy and teammate. There is no excuse for John Henry not to have opened his overstuffed wallet and paid Mookie to stay in Boston for his Hall of Fame career. No excuse whatsoever.
  10. One thing about the Sox, they seem to get a threat going just about every inning. Not a lot of easy, quick innings for the opposing pitcher. It's just a matter of getting the hits with runners in scoring position.
  11. Reading what Mookie said, he was surprised by the trade. He had still expected to sign with Boston. Bloom made the trade, so he has to be answerable for it. If Henry ordered him to trade Mookie, then Henry should own up to it and take the heat off Bloom. This was not just your ordinary bad trade. This was much worse.
  12. As I said above, I don't think Roberts would have pinch hit for Muncy , but we will never know. I do think the pitching change should have been made regardless.
  13. I agree. Bringing in Bernardino would have been the correct move.
  14. We can never be sure what will happen in any at-bat. I think the point was that Bernardino was more likely to get Muncy than was Pivetta. Personally, I don't think Roberts would have pinch hit for Max, but we will never know that either.
  15. You don't have to face three batters if you get the last out of an inning.
  16. Absolutely. All this other stuff is just spin.
  17. You can't be gullible enough to believe that Mookie had to be traded because the Sox did not have enough depth in the minors. Really. Do you believe everything they tell you? He was traded because they did not want to pay him.
  18. There is no point in guessing how many games a team will win. Too many things can happen in the course of a season. What is really stupid is giving twenty to one odds that the Sox will not win a wild card when they are only four games back with thirty five to play. No one with any feel for the game would do that.
  19. I would believe Mookie all day before I would believe anyone in Red Sox management. The fact is that they traded Betts because they wanted to save money. This despite the team being worth more than five billion.
  20. Manny was a great hitter. He left a lot to be desired as a person. Enough said.
  21. It wasn't just Little League or any organized competition. Kids used to play ball on their own every day, whether it was in the park, playground, backyard or the street.
  22. Remember when Big Papi smashed the dugout phone with a bat ?
  23. Did I ever tell you about the time I went six rounds with Marvin Hagler ?
  24. Casas does that a lot. I think he knows how many outs there are. It's just one of the quirky things he does.
  25. I don't think that there is any doubt that American kids are not as into baseball as they were years ago. It is obvious.
