  1. So much of the good, young pitching is coming out of Latin America.
  2. The young Yankee call ups have injected some life into a team that previously looked like they were just going through the motions. They probably are wishing they had done it sooner.
  3. Sale vs Clarke . There are no sure things , but this is about as close to it as you can get. Can't possibly lose this one. ...Or can they ?
  4. If anyone out there is still holding some hope for a Sox wild card, the team to watch is the Rangers. They are dropping like the proverbial rock.
  5. It seems to me that pitchers with a more compact delivery, who can generate power from the lower body, have a better chance to avoid arm problems. I don't have any data to support that, it's just from my somewhat limited observation.
  6. Whether you acquire pitchers via free agency or via trade , the key is being able to evaluate talent. Given the fragile nature of pitching arms, it can be a tricky business.
  7. The team was basically shamed into extending Devers. Letting him walk could have led to an all out mutiny.
  8. Well, it's baseball. You never can tell. The A.L. East teams all have some problems right now. (I am trying hard, maybe too hard.)
  9. We are probably overreacting to last night's fiasco. But there is no question that there is a general malaise in Sox Nation. We can hear that the farm is looking better for just so long. This is /was a big-time organization. What we have been watching is not acceptable.
  10. Regrettably, it looks like Bloom will be back for another year. Hopefully , he learns from his mistakes and is able to grow into the job.
  11. One final point on the difference between 2018 and 2019. In 2018 , the bullpen recorded 46 saves and 20 blown saves for a success rate of 70%. In 2019 , the bullpen recorded 33 saves and 31 blown saves for a success rate of just 52 %. As you can see, the amount of save situations was about the same. ( I have no intention of combing through the box scores to see how many of the blown saves were in the 9th, 8th or 7th innings.) But it is pretty clear that there was a big drop off in the performance of the bullpen. And it should be obvious that the bullpen issues hurt the team's overall record.
  12. One more time ? Really? Don't talk down to me like that. I am not going to go any further with this because I think that you are just breaking balls. Not trying to be serious. If I mention saves , you say " I don't care about freaking saves. " Whatever the topic is, you come back with the same crap. I am not going to deal with you and your childish nonsense. The bottom line in baseball is that you either win or you lose. But you try to diminish the winning and excuse the losing. I guess you have your motivations, but I am tired of your routine.
  13. You brought up the deadline. I said the deadline had nothing to do with it. They were blowing leads all year.
  14. I said the bullpen would be a big problem in 2019. The bullpen did, in fact, become a big problem in 2019. That is all. That, along with a couple of injuries to the rotation was the cause for the team's decline from 2018. If you don't agree with that, fine. So be it.
  15. Now , you are just being ridiculous. The reality of what happened in 2019 eludes you. I don't care who you like or don't like.
  16. I can't keep up with this. You are not making any sense. I said Dombrowski should have done something. You just want to get into an argument over it, like you always do. I was just replying to Max talking about the nosedive in 2019, and what caused it.
  17. I well remember having this discussion in the winter of 2019. What I am saying now is what I said then. I think you were one of the ones saying the bullpen will be fine. Well, I was right all along , hard as it is for you to admit.
  18. The starting rotation looked very good on paper. But injuries and underperformance were a problem. However, the bullpen blew so many leads.
  19. I am just trying to explain to Maxie the reason for the " nosedive " in 2019. And the importance of a bullpen and a closer. Dombrowski was the G.M. at the time. He should have done something. But the team was still 10 games over .500 on the day he was unjustly and stupidly fired.
  20. Did you know that the Sox scored more runs in 2019 than they did in 2018? The deadline had nothing to do with it. The 2019 team blew a ton of leads all year.
  21. Credit where it is due. Anthony Volpe looks like a good one. He is just 22 and playing a very high-profile position as shortstop for the Yankees. He is having a good rookie season.
  22. Max, let's take a simple, no spin look at things. In 2019 the Sox had essentially the same team as they had in 2018, except for Kimbrel. Kimbrel had 42 saves in 2018. He left. They did nothing to replace him. Just tried to mix and match with what they had in house. It didn't work out. There were a ton of blown saves. They won 24 fewer games than in 2018. Now, what would Occam's razor say was the difference between the two teams? What was the problem?
  23. The most disappointing guys were the ones who were hyped to be the " next Pedro " .
  24. How is that working out ?
  25. Monday: "Players start to decline at age 30." Friday: "Yoshida is only 29, he should be better next year. " Okay. Whatever.
