  1. Frank Robinson ?
  2. A new excuse for this year's failures. It was the interpreter's fault.
  3. Baseball is a team sport. You can't just pinpoint one reason for losing. Watching the team this season, it was apparent that they just did not play good baseball. They could never quite put all aspects together. Every time they looked like they had it all together they backslid. As a team, they simply were just not good enough.
  4. It sure looks like Cora has emerged pretty much unscathed from the past two disastrous seasons. He looks to be in very good standing with ownership. He obviously won out over Bloom. Whoever gets Bloom's job is not going to be able to select a new manager.
  5. Some folks want to have it both ways. They talk about how you can build a winner with a low payroll and cite a couple of examples as proof. Then they turn around and complain how tough it is to win without spending big. I have been consistent in thinking that MLB is big business. And the best players cost more and for longer term. Sometimes you will get burned. But you have to be willing to spend. And the owners do have the money. And the Red Sox most definitely should have spent on Mookie Betts. Now, they need to spend on pitching.
  6. I can't believe that , after seven years, folks are still critiquing two of the best trades in Red Sox history. Kopech, despite a live arm, has never amounted to anything for the Pale hose. And now, they are even using a substitute Logan Allen to try and justify that trade. Anything goes in trying to diminish Dombrowski. Let it go.
  7. I would not trade Duran. I see him leading off and being a catalyst to the offense. And I don't think the return for him would be sufficient. It is almost in the no brainer category that better pitching is what is paramount . Spend the money.
  8. I think the Yankees will try to make a major acquisition through trade or free agency. They may have to settle for a guy like Bellinger. Rodon has a live arm, but health and attitude concerns. They will probably be in on Yamamoto. I think they are stuck with Stanton. He has become gun shy and has trouble standing in against hard throwing righties. A lot depends on how well their young guys do. All in all, you can never count them out.
  9. The Irish laid a big egg in Louisville. The turnovers and penalties were killers, but they did not play well in general. The blocking and the tackling were weak. Can't beat a good team that way.
  10. We can conjure up all the possible scenarios we want to try and mitigate the Bloom and gloom era. But the facts are still the facts. Dombrowski is, and has been, one of the best executives in baseball for some time. He has taken four different teams to the World Series, winning it twice. He has put together some outstanding rosters in doing so. Bloom was a man with a plan that did not work. He finished dead last three out of four years. There is simply no comparison between the two executives. Hopefully, Bloom learns from his mistakes and does better when he gets another chance somewhere.
  11. Baseball fans in eight cities are excited and fired up for post season baseball. That certainly includes Philly, where Dombrowski once again has a playoff team. But there is no joy in Beantown , except for discussions about Chico Calzone down in A- Ball and whether BTV will accept a trade of Jerry Jabroni for a " number three" starter. Thanks, Bloom.
  12. That auto correct is going to get you in trouble. # proof read
  13. Time for everyone to come clean. I sometimes post under the name " notin."
  14. The thing about the 2018 Sox was that they were a complete team. There were no real weaknesses. They were good everywhere.
  15. Rays fans were conspicuous by their absence for the playoff games at the Trop.
  16. The Sox may have missed the playoffs again, but there are a dozen or so former Sox who are participating. So, you can pull for them, or maybe root against them if that is your thing. Watching Eovaldi pitch against the Rays today.
  17. It is all second guessing. But Pedro did seem to want out of there. And even the finest automobile will not run if it is out of gas.
  18. The back fence gossip is in full swing. You are getting double and sometimes triple teamed.
  19. Sure, the manager would always like to have a little more to work with. I agree with living in the present. Whether you are a manager, player or a fan ; the current season is your biggest concern. The past is gone and the future is uncertain and never guaranteed.
  20. Without question, most of the Sox great hitters have been left handed.
  21. I think there is often some conflict between the manager and the front office. There certainly seemed to be some between Cora and Bloom. Most managers do realize that they have to go along to get along , but it has to hurt to take the heat for things ( like rest days ) that are front office decisions.
  22. JBJ was the best Red Sox centerfielder that I have seen. And I go back pretty far. I do think strong defense up the middle is very important. At the corner infield spots, I have no problem swapping some defense for power. . Leave Devers and Casas alone. They are not the problem with this ballclub.
  23. Sad day. By all accounts, Wake was one of the good guys in the game.
  24. Everyone can form their own opinions and imagine scenarios that support those opinions. And that's okay. Personally, I would tend to believe Mookie ahead of something that management may have leaked to Lou Merloni. By the way, do they call it " auto correct " because you always have to auto correct it ?
  25. The trick is to score more runs than the other team. Hitting, pitching, fielding, base running and smart managing are all components of it. Being strong in some areas can make up for weakness in others. Regrettably, we did not see enough of that this year.
