  1. Aaron Boone has made a nice living off of one hanging knuckleball . Maybe that is about to end.
  2. The Sox did win a ring with that outfield. It is reasonable and understandable to want them . It is also reasonable to realize that nothing lasts forever. Things change.
  3. I think most of the money comes from fan interest during the stretch run , not strictly from the one game.
  4. Are we really debating whether it is better to put a ball in play than it is to strike out ?
  5. Every team is sometimes victim to the " game of inches" situation. Every team is sometimes hurt by the ump's calls or non calls. But most fans only complain about it when it happens to their team. That's just the way we are.
  6. There is not a balanced schedule . So , overall records can be deceiving. The strength of the divisions can vary from year to year. You still play to win your division. The Giants and Dodgers have the two best records . Should they just play each other in the World Series? Playoffs with the division winners plus one wild card is plenty. Everything beyond that is just a money grab. What's next? Three wild cards? Next thing you know , it will look like the NBA playoffs.
  7. I don't like the second wild card one bit. I think it is just a cheap , money making gimmick. A third place team does not deserve to be in the post season. But you take what you can get. Not saying the playoffs are exactly a crapshoot , but anything can happen.
  8. Loaisiga has been the missing link. And Severino is a big addition. The bullpen is possibly the most important thing in baseball today. Almost all close games come down to a battle of the bullpens. And there are many close games.
  9. You have to be in it to win it. When you get to the post season , anything is possible. Any of the post season teams can get hot ( momentum?) . Not every team has an equal chance , but they all have a decent shot . That would include the Red Sox.
  10. That's why I like TalkSox. The guys down at Clancy's never talk about stuff like recency bias and cognitive thought process.
  11. Sox are still leading the second wild card. They have five very winnable games remaining. How in the world does anyone want to throw in the towel at this point?
  12. There are thirty teams in MLB. Of all the possible combinations , we could not possibly draw up a better scenario than the one we have now. Three games against the Orioles while the Jays and Yankees face off for three. The wild card is there for the taking. No excuse not to take it. ( And it also gives the Mariners a real shot to get in.)
  13. Two deserving candidates in Ohtani and Guerrero Jr. Ohtani certainly leads in the publicity department. That should not matter , but unfortunately it often does.
  14. I wonder what Charley Hustle thinks today about MLBs and the NFLs association with gambling? And them making money from it?
  15. To Pete Rose, the All Star Game was just as big as the World Series. He desperately wanted to win.
  16. Former Sox lefty , Frank " Sweet music" Viola was managing in A Ball. He was ejected for arguing balls and strikes. With the Robo ump !!!
  17. . The robo ump better be better than my Robo vacuum. That's all I can say. Well , I could say more , but that's all for now.
  18. Cora is not God , but he is up for sainthood according to some folks around here.
  19. I think sometimes it just depends on whose ox is being gored. We certainly don't like when it is Pedroia's ox.
  20. Looks like he enjoys his little comfort zone where expectations are not too high.
  21. On the foul tip play, Cora was on the phone with his replay guy. Apparently the guy advised Cora to let it go.
  22. I thought beaning referred to throwing at or near the head.
  23. Billy Beane is a genius . A baseball savant. A money ball wizard. He has a whole den full of participation trophies to prove it.
  24. If you are okay with a hitter being throw at or beaned , you should not complain about a hard slide by Machado. It goes both ways.
  25. The anxiety, stress and despair for me ended , along with the Bambino's curse , in 2004. I now am able to hope for the best , relax and enjoy the games stress free. I feel sorry for those who make themselves sick over every setback. Even during 2018 , one of the smoothest , easiest rides to a title that you could hope for , some folks were having nervous breakdowns . To each his own , but these games are supposed to be fun. They are not supposed to be bad for your health.
