  1. Will the real " official ALCS thread " please stand up .
  2. I get counsel from my local gambling maven , Paul " Needlenose" Minagge. He says that there is no sure thing in baseball , but the smart money is on the team with the championship track record , not the perennial runner up.
  3. Bump. I hope at least a couple of you followed my advice and won a few easy bucks on this series.
  4. The smart money is all on the Sox. Some folks like to think it's the gritty, gutty, underdog Red Sox trying to pull off the improbable upset of the mighty Rays. But that is simply not the case . The Rays have never , ever won a championship. And that is not going to change here. The Sox have the championship pedigree. By the way , the Dodgers won last year's World Series in six games , not seven. If you are going to give the official recaps , you need to get the details right.
  5. The Rays have been in existence for 23 years. They have yet to " make their bones " , so to speak. If and when they do , they will get and deserve more recognition.
  6. The Red Sox are going to advance to the next round regardless of what anyone else does.
  7. The Sox win last night was the only win by the visiting team so far in the play in and playoff games.
  8. I wonder if , at some point in the later part of the season, MLB worked the juiced ball back into business. The ball seems to be jumping off the bats.
  9. I hope we put put an end to this nonsense that Houck doesn't have the arsenal to be a starter.
  10. Game threads have always displayed the epitome of overreaction , whether positive or ( more often) negative. It gives folks a release for their thoughts and emotions. Sometimes , they get a little extreme. Personally , I will often look at it afterwards , but I don't care to read it or participate during the game.
  11. Cora has become a regular Captain Hook lately. Let's see if he gives Sale a little longer leash tonight.
  12. The steal of home should not have caught them off guard. It was the classic situation. Two outs, lefty on the mound, lefty at bat, fast runner on third . And Arozarena is just the kind of electrifying player that likes to gamble. The Sox should not have been caught napping. But the real problem last night was the failure to hit with runners on base.
  13. I think the White Sox would be easier to beat than the Astros.
  14. The Kaiser was a choker.
  15. It was dumb to bet against the Yanks back in day. Not now. Folks who are mostly concerned with analytics and numbers just don't get the overall feeling of these things. The confidence that comes from winning . The doubt that comes from never quite getting there. The difference between them. We all know that anything can happen in a short series , but my money is on the Sox in this one.
  16. The flags are still flying. No flags are flying at the Trop.
  17. You probably bet Liston to kayo Ali ( Clay) .
  18. The bottom line is the one that counts. In this case , the bottom line was a victory. The smart second guesser only questions the moves that don't pan out.
  19. You have to be pretty dumb to favor a team that has never won a championship over a team with four titles in recent years. To paraphrase The Greatest , Muhammad Ali , " If you want to lose your money , and regret it for days , be a fool and bet on the Rays. "
  20. Yup. I remember the announcer , Ray Scott. Bart Starr would throw a touchdown pass , and Scott would say just one word , " Dowler. "
  21. Very true. If anything , they will expand the playoffs even further. $$$$$$$
  22. Bronxie the turtle was last seen walking along the Major Deegan.
  23. Max Magoo. Didn't he used to play for the Packers?
  24. A lot of former BoSox influence in these playoffs. Rays- Cash and Margot.White Sox- LaRussa , Kimbrel, Kopech and Moncada. Milwaukee- JBJ. Dodgers- Roberts, Mookie, Kelly and Price. Giants- Kapler . Maybe I forgot a couple. Lester almost made it.
  25. When there is a big game , people tend to over analyze things. They forget that it's still baseball. And things often don't play out the way you anticipated.
