    I suspect the Red Sox are stuck with JD. No one wants a DH type making all that money and it is possible that he is in decline. Too much money, too much uncertainty for a guy who can't play the field. If the Red Sox could trade JD for a bag of balls, just to get rid of the contract, I think they do it, but no one will take JD on.

    Vazquez would definitely be a needed upgrade for the Rays and Bloom knows their system.....

    The real problem with this organization continues to be Brian Cashman but Hal can't figure that out. Cashman has been the Yankees GM for too long--it is time to move on and get a fresh perspective.

    2021 starting staff: E-Rod T.Bauer Free Agent Eovaldi Perez Pivetta/Houck battle for 5th spot w/ C. Sale returning. If things go right, you can win with that starting staff. C.Wong starting C? (if they trade Vazquez) J.Downs starting 2b? J.Duran starting CF? AAA SP depth: Mata Groome

    It'll be interesting to see if the Red Sox trade Vazquez. If they do, that would suggest that they really like C.Wong and see him as their future starting catcher. Due to the dearth of catching talent, you would think the Red Sox could get a quality young arm for Vazquez.

    The problem with Cashman, though, is his tendency to engage in "prospect hugging." He places too much value on prospects and doesn't get that extra piece the team needs to get over the top. There is a reason why the Yankees haven't played a World Series game in over a decade. The fact that the Yankees haven't played in a World Series in ten years and yet consistently have one of the highest payrolls year in and year out speaks to the dysfunctions within the organization.

    The Yankees need SP. I would trade N.Eavoldi to the Yankees for C.Schmidt and M.Andujar. The Red Sox play Andujar in LF for the rest of the season to see if he can handle it. I would rather have Schmidt over Garcia. Garcia has a small small frame for a SP, I don't see him holding up for very long.

    Chavis is a guy you include in a trade. I'm not saying the Sox can get a lot for him, he would just be an additional piece in a trade. I don't see Chavis playing a significant role for the Red Sox in the short or long term.

    The Yankees don't have the money for Lindor, not with Stanton's contract (which is like a ball and chain around the Yankees neck) and Cole's contract weighing them down. Moreover, the Yankees will need to spend a fortune in the offseason to keep their pitching staff intact with Tanaka and Paxton becoming free agents. And guys like Judge, Sanchez, and Torres will soon be making much more than they are now. The Yankees would obviously like to dump Stanton's contract, but they can't--he has a no trade and no one wants him at this point anyway. Big Cashman mistake. I wonder if the Red Sox and Guardians talked about some kind of Bogaerts for Lindor swap? There is a good chance that the Guardians trade Lindor in the offseason--they can't afford him, but they can probably take on Bogaerts' contract, who is a downgrade but would keep the Guardians competitive. The problem: the deal doesn't make sense for the Red Sox unless they work out an extension for Lindor in advance.

    A great trade for the Red Sox. I guess the Phillies were desperate for some bullpen upgrades. 2021 rotation: E-Rod Eovaldi free agent: T.Bauer? Pivetta Perez with C.Sale returning The Yankees better win a World Series this year; their window will be closed next season when T.Bauer joins E-Rod and Sale in the Red Sox rotation. Oh baby, I'm feeling it--a big Red Sox turnaround in 2021!

    I think back to some of my childhood friends who picked the Jets as their favorite team over the Giants. If you are my age, in my 40s, you were born after 1969, and so have never seen the Jets in a Super Bowl, never had the experience of knowing what it felt like to win a Super Bowl. But if you picked the Giants, like I did, you have the childhood memory of the Giants winning in 1986. You remember 1990. And of course you remember the two Giants championships under Coughlin and Eli. In fact, since 1986, there is only one NFL team that has won more Super Bowls than the Giants and that team is of course the Patriots. The Giants were a good choice--4 Super Bowls and only one Super Bowl loss. For the longest time I figured I screwed up by picking the Red Sox. As a kid, I do remember the 1986 heartbreak in losing to the Mets. I remember the losses to the A's in the playoffs. I obviously remember the Boone HR in 2003, which left me speechless for a few days after. But ever since 2003, the Red Sox have rocked with 4 championships!

    Giants fans here (I know, the Red Sox and the football Giants are a weird mix) and I just recently watched the Giants 1986 Super Bowl victory over Denver. John Elway is super-young in 1986 and played really well in the first half. The Giants dominant defense took over in the second half and Simms had a tremendous game. Yeah, there are a ton of big football games on YouTube.

    I think so. Man, tendering a contract to Jackie Bradley Jr. was such an awful idea, what a waste of resources.

    The idea of playing the baseball season in Arizona has to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard.

    Based on the way things are going, I doubt there is a baseball season this year. I don't think life returns to normal until they come up with a vaccine. They are trying to fast track a vaccine and they will probably get it right--too many smart people are working on it. I'm predicting vaccines are available late fall, and we get an abbreviated football season and no baseball until 2021 Spring Training. The NBA and NHL will also cancel.

    Screw it, I say cancel the entire season. In contrast to the Yankees, the Red Sox aren't built to win this year anyway. I'll find something else to watch--the 2004 ALCS never gets old when the Yankees turned into the biggest losers and chokers in the history of sports. The 2018 ALDS is entertaining as well, when the Red Sox kicked the living crap out of the Yankees. Get ready for spring training 2021!

    This was the move that earned Dombrowski a pink slip IMO. There were all kinds of suspicions regarding Sale's health. The Red Sox could have waited to offer Sale a new contract. Dombrowski rushed into the move and it was a disaster. I'm still hoping that Sale comes back strong and the Red Sox can move Sale at the trade deadline to a team desperate for a starter, but most likely the Red Sox are stuck with Sale for the duration of the contract. This might be Dombrowski's worse move, since it was so obvious that Sale was not healthy, and the Red Sox only needed to avoid the long term commitment.

    Sabathia should shut up too. I think MLB should void the Yankees 2009 title due to steroid use.

    Question for Red Sox fans. Let's say Chris Sale is Chris Sale again, totally healthy, arm looks great, velocity way up, striking people out, and is on pace to have one of his best seasons in 2020. Do you trade Sale at the deadline for a motherload of prospects? If Chris Sale is Chris Sale again, teams will be lining up to trade for him, since a dominant Sale can be the difference between winning and losing in the postseason. Or would you hold on to Sale with the goal of competing over the next few seasons?

    It is the ultimate criteria of success. The reality of the situation is that only a few small market teams have won W.S. Championships in the 21st Century and that matters. I realize that some teams should spend more, but the small market teams simply don't have the revenue to dole out a 330 million dollar contract on one player (G.Cole). When the Yankees signed Sabathia, Teixeria, and Burnett in one offseason, they basically bought a World Series title. How many small market teams had the revenue to sign all three in one offseason? Empirically, big market teams have a competitive advantage in winning W.S. championships. It is what it is.

    True, sexual assault and rape are bad stuff, but Clemons did more than use steroids, he lied to Congress, which is a felony, a serious crime. I realize the charge of perjury wasn't proven, but it is pretty clear that Clemons lied. There is speculation that Clemons had sex with that country singer when she was below the age of consent. But I don't remember the full story behind that one. Regardless, I do remember when Clemons spoke in front of Congress and committed a felony. Clemons is a criminal who should have been locked up.

    f*** Mookie Betts. The guy is a greedy imbecile. The Red Sox tried to sign him long term (more than once), and were willing to make him a rich man in the process, but that wasn't enough for Betts. On the topic of free agency and greed in the sport, yeah it has been this way for a long time. Interestingly, small market teams continue to have a hard time competing. We sometimes overlook this, but nothing has changed. The fact that the Yankees could sign CC Sabathia, AJ Burnettt, and Texieria matters. The fact that a small market team couldn't sign Sabathia, Burnett, and Texieria matters. The fact that the Yankees could sign G.Cole matters. The fact that small market teams couldn't sign G.Cole matters. Look at the W.S. Champions from the mid-1990s onwards, how many of those championship were won by small market teams? Small market teams are at a competitive disadvantage in terms of winning championships. True, the Marlins of 2003 put it together, the Royals won a W.S. but most championships go to teams that spend. When a small market team does win a championship, it is the exception, not the rule.

    If he returns to Fenway as a visiting player, I'm confident the Fenway Faithful will give Price a standing ovation. We can't forget what he did for the Red Sox in 2018. He basically carried the pitching staff late in the playoffs when it looked like Sale had nothing left. As a result, I'll always have fond memories of Price and I'll remember what he did in the 2018 postseason. If I'm not mistaken, he make a spectacular start on short rest against the Dodgers. He could have won the World Series MVP, but I guess Pearce deserved it too.

    Now that he is out of Fenway Park, Betts could have a down year offensively in spacious Dodgers stadium. And since defense is often the first area of decline, the big offers might not be there for Betts. If that is the case, the Red Sox could swoop in with the best offer and Betts might appreciate a return to the comfortable confines of Fenway Park. On other other hand, if Betts has a huge year for the Dodgers, an MVP season, some team will offer Betts a massive contract and it probably won't be the Red Sox. Betts is clearly a money guy -- he goes to the highest bidder no matter what. If the Long Island Ducks made the highest offer, he would go there. In the worst scenario for the Dodgers, they lose Betts in free agency but gain a compensation pick. The compensation pick would make up for one of the three players traded to the Red Sox.
