  1. I wonder if G.Richards' fastball would play up as a one inning reliever, turning him into a highly effective set-up guy?
  2. The fact that Leiter grew up a rich kid might explain why he would be willing to take less to sign with the Red Sox than, say, getting the full slot money as the first pick of the draft. Leiter might be more focused on the prestige of the organization and not the money. In contrast, some middle class kid would want to go first or second overall for the money. I really want Davis, but I think the Pirates are taking him. Leiter is my next choice, but he may go to the Rangers. The guy I'm worried about is Lawlar, the age thing is starting to bother me. If the top 3 are Davis (Pirates), Leiter (Rangers), and Mayer (Tigers), I would want the Red Sox to take Jobe at 4. Sure, Jobe is a high risk gamble, but the pick could also pay off big time.
  3. It was pretty cool to hear that Chris Sale was working with Houck: https://www.telegram.com/story/sports/mlb/woosox/2021/06/18/red-sox-chris-sale-tanner-houck-worcester-red-sox/7741936002/ It is still early, but it is hard not to get excited about Bello. Perhaps the Red Sox have something special in him. Just thinking about the rotation next year: C.Sale N.Eovaldi N.Pivetta T.Houck E.Rodriguez (resign at bargain price) G.Whitlock ---That's 6 starters, wow--- Triple A C.Seabold B.Bello J.Winckowski At this point I wouldn't bring back G.Richards, he may have been a "sticky stuff" guy. I would rather put some resources into E-Rod, he is younger than Richards and will hopefully get back on track. Too bad he is out of options.
  4. I'm not sure if this was reported, but Houck returned to the mound and looked great, he threw 3 innings in AAA, gave up one walk, no hits, and finished with 6 Ks. If Houck can stay healthy, I wouldn't be surprised to see him return to the Red Sox rotation sometime soon.
  5. Yeah, you get the feeling that Jack Leiter has a sense of entitlement. His father made millions playing baseball, he grew up a rich kid, and now he is going to make a fortune in the draft. For Jack Leiter, going to the Pirates isn't prestigious enough, he wants to go to one of the more historic, elite organizations in the game like the Yankees, Dodgers, Red Sox, and obviously the only top organization that has a chance is the Red Sox with the 4th pick. In addition, some middle class kid is thinking primarily about the money, but Leiter is a rich kid and so he might not care if he makes a few million less going to the Red Sox than getting the full bonus money from the Pirates or Rangers.
  6. If the Red Sox don't want to give the starting 1b job to Santana, then I would give Chavis a chance. Of course, the other solution is to trade for a major league caliber first baseman. The good thing about the Red Sox is that they don't have a major league caliber player in Dalbec and once they replace him with a real major league player, their lineup will be much stronger than it is now. Dalbec must be sent down. He will need to make some kind of mechanical adjustment to his swing or leg kick or whatever, but he isn't a major league caliber hitter, he doesn't have a major league caliber hit tool. I wouldn't promote him again until he cuts down on the swing and misses and strike outs. I don't know why it is taking the Red Sox so long to make such an obvious move. Also, I wouldn't hesitate to use Dalbec as a trade chip. Maybe some team will like his power potential and will believe they can fix him. Perhaps the guy who drafted Dalbec would be interested--the Phillies? Also, Workman is useless. It makes more sense to give his roster spot to a reliever with options, giving the club more flexibility. Thus, releasing Workman and putting Brennan back on the 40 man roster makes sense to me. Or, release Workman and put Ort on the 40 man roster. I'm assuming Rios has options, does anyone know?
  7. Big news: Glasnow might need Tommy John! Cry me a river Glasnow--the doofus blames the new no "sticky stuff" rule on his injury. So the guy was cheating, discovered he couldn't cheat anymore, got injured, and then blamed his injury on the new rules. Spare me the sob story. https://sports.yahoo.com/tampa-bay-rays-tyler-glasnow-suffered-partial-ucl-tear-will-try-avoid-tommy-john-surgery-injured-192809527.html
  8. I'm hoping the Red Sox bring back E-Rod, the free agent options aren't overly exciting. I wish the Red Sox signed Taijuan Walker in the offseason. It looks like the Mets found a bargain--he signed for three years at an awesome price. Syndegaard and Stroman are interesting options, but these aren't the old Mets. If the Mets want to bring both of them back, they have the richest owner in baseball and he will spend the money.
  9. I would (1) promote Duran and send Dalbec to AAA. (2) I would give the starting 1b job to Santana. He gets a month (or so) to prove he deserves the job. I would like to see what Santana can do with consistent playing time. If he continues to suck, the Red Sox need to trade for a starting first baseman at the trade deadline.
  10. In this scenario, I would take Lawlar--those Carlos Correa comparisons are hard to resist. Does anyone have a problem with Lawlar's age--he will be turning 19 very soon and thus he is slightly older than the typical high school prospect? According to MLB's scouting report, "teams with age-based models" won't like Lawlar quite as much due to his age. It worth noting that House is almost a full year younger than Lawlar.
  11. I think the Yankees should take a step back and trade off some assets. Green and Chapman will be very appealing trade deadline pieces who will bring back some excellent prospects. As far as Judge goes, he is a popular player with the Yankees fan base and so they will hopefully hold on to Judge and sign him to a long term deal in the offseason. As a Red Sox fan, I'm rooting for the Yankees to spend around 200 million on Judge. That would be awesome, another big contract that will hinder the Yankees from making other moves.
  12. The Red Sox might be in the market for a starting first baseman at the trade deadline, and this is another reason why it would make sense to rely on Duran for CF rather than trading for a starting CF. How hard can it be to find a 1b who can be reasonably productive? Let's face it, Dalbec might have too many holes in his swing and Santana and Gonzalez aren't producing.
  13. The Yankees should fire Boone and bring back Yankees great Willie Randolph! I liked Randolph as a manager and always believed he didn't get a fair shot with the Mets. He was fired by that dummy Omar Minaya.
  14. I'm starting to think the draft will unfold in the following manner: Pirates: H.Davis, the best player in the draft and according to reports, Cherrington has been concerned over the Pirates lack of depth at the catcher position. Rangers: J.Leiter, too good to pass on and they need pitching. Tigers: M.Mayer Red Sox: do they take Lawlar, Rocker, or, perhaps a dark horse candidate like Jobe? I want Davis, but assuming Davis, Leiter, and Mayer are off the board 1-2-3, who should the Red Sox take at 4?

  16. I've been watching the Mets lately; Lindor is showing some signs of life at the plate. He is starting to look like his old self. His BA is now above .200 and will probably keep going up at this point. He plays a slick SS too. As far as Cano goes, he had another positive PED test, his second one. If he has one more, he will be banned permanently. I suspect the Mets will release Cano in the offseason. The owner has money, and Cano was a mistake of the prior regime, the imbecile Brady Van Wagon or whatever his name was. They won't admit it, but the Mets were pretty happy when Cano tested positive again--they were able to save approx. 20 million with his suspension. Then again, maybe the Mets keep Cano around, hoping he fails another test? I don't know. Cano is such a loser--the Mets are better off cutting ties with him in the offseason, eating the money, and moving on. This is an organization that is pretty desperate to win another championship--they haven't won since 1986 and that is now a long time ago.
  17. I also agree that Jobe is a better prospect than Rocker and I would take Jobe over Rocker. Rocker looks like a solid middle of the rotation starter, and probably doesn't have much room to grow at this point. In contrast, Jobe can be more than that, he can be an ace, he has a higher ceiling than Rocker. As such, I would take Jobe over Rocker, knowing that I can always find a middle of the rotation starter in free agency. Still, while I would take Jobe over Rocker and will be disappointed if the Red Sox take Rocker at 4, I will admit that Jobe is a riskier pick than Rocker. Rocker has a lower ceiling but a higher floor.
  18. Some interesting arguments here regarding whether or not it is time to promote Duran: https://www.overthemonster.com/2021/6/11/22529544/boston-red-sox-top-prospects-jarren-duran-call-up-when
  19. Severino left his rehab start with a groin injury; it looked like a major injury--he couldn't walk off the field without assistance. A groin injury can be devastating for pitchers. It may be months before he can throw from the mound again and then Severino will need to resume his rehab. I suspect we will not see Severino again until 2022.
  20. They would need to open a spot on the 40 man roster. They could remove Arauz from the 40 man, I'm not sure what the Red Sox see in him anyway.
  21. Chris Murphy has the ceiling of a mid-rotation starter and so it's not like the Red Sox are giving up a premium talent for a rental in Marte. I wouldn't trade Bello for a rental. Instead of trading for a CF, I would prefer promoting Duran and using Chavis in a deal for a relief pitcher.
  22. For the 2021 season, should the Red Sox promote Duran for CF or should the Red Sox trade for a starting CF? For example, how about M.Chavis and Chris Murphy to the Marlins for Starling Marte?
  23. The Red Sox future outfield: LF: F.Cordero and M.Wilson platoon CF: Duran RF: Verdugo The nice thing about this OF is that two-thirds will be inexpensive, giving the Red Sox the resources to resign Verdugo and Devers while dealing with Bogaerts' contract. Future 1b: T.Casas Future Catcher: my hope is that the Red Sox draft H.Davis. The Red Sox need a stud catching prospect more than anything. Vazquez isn't going to last forever and he has a funny body to begin with. He is already 30 years old and I could see him breaking down over the next few years and we are arguably seeing a decline in his bat this season. Remember a few years ago, the Red Sox signed D.Flores to a 3 million dollar international contract--he tragically passed away at such a young age. Davis is needed to fill that gap.
  24. Callis and Mayo both said today that if the Pirates don't take Davis at 1, he will be there at 4. The Pirates are desperate for a catcher of the future--they have nobody--and if they can sign Davis for under slot then Davis makes a lot of sense for them. I wonder if Davis would be willing to do that? Would any of the top prospects be willing to sign with the Pirates for under slot? If the Pirates pick comes down to, say, three players, the final decision might be determined solely by the economics, i.e., the player with the lowest bonus demand.
  25. It is pretty obvious what Gerrit Cole is doing here--he doesn't want to lie, knowing the truth will come out, and yet he doesn't want to tell the truth either and thus admit he is a cheater.
