    One note from Worcester yesterday is that Cordero went 1 for 5 but struck out 4 times. Gives one pause about promoting him.

    My brother sold his place on Damarascotta Lake a few years ago. We used to fish there every summer and catch a lot of bass, some really large ones. My brother is 85 now so the place got to be too much for him. Have a nice visit as Maine is a beautiful and still rural state.

    It will be interesting to see what the Sox do in the starting pitching area going forward. We don't appear to have an ACE this year. We have Houck possible in July and Sale in August, so there is hope internally. Could we design a trade to get a serviceable starter with a couple of years of control? With Brasier coming back the pen should be solid so it is beginning to look like we can make some noise if we reach the playoffs. Our defense and base running needs some help and we may already have help for the offense internally so going after starting pitching might be the smartest move.

    Is Cordero a leadoff hitter? That is what the Sox could use and yes they need another left handed bat. I think Duran goes to the Olympics and Cordero comes up.

    Position Player of the Week Jarren Duran (Worcester) There were a few good options here, and really you could flip a coin between Duran and his teammate who will come in as the honorable mention, but the heroics from the end of the week push him over the top. Duran walked it off in Worcester on Sunday to end their week, and to end a big-time six-day stretch for him. Over the last week Duran hit .385/.448/.692 with a pair of homers and a pair of doubles. Interestingly, Cordero was the alternate player of the week in Worcester. So we have two left handed outfielders who deserve a look or another look. Santana is the guy on the short leash.

    Lets keep all our prospects in Worcester and continue to play guys that don't get it done. Yeah.

    It's an example. Duran is being judged based on an ideal whereas the Sox have roster players who are far from ideal.

    The Sox played three games in high temperatures that can impact pitchers. We also made key errors in the game and only produced 3 runs off of 11 hits. That was not our best effort and a day off will help. help. Hope the minor injuries we experienced can be overcome without going to the IL.

    He was taking a lot of pitches right over the plate for a long period and he was slumping badly then. I hoped they would coach him to swing at any pitch right over the plate and he started doing that with better results. His hitting has improved to the point where he should not be sent down.

    Houck is also nearing readiness. He may come in as a long reliever at first so maybe replacing Andriese makes sense.

    Jarren Duran. RF: 3-4, 1 HR, 1 R, 2 RBI. Latest from Worcester. Lets give this kid a look and send Santana down.

    I believe Bloom will stick to the plan. That his moves to date have resulted in a competitive team has been somewhat unexpected and a plus. Our minor league prospect list has been strengthened and we have a likelihood of drafting well. I rate the job he has done to date as excellent. If anything I am impatient for him bringing up some of our better prospects now to improve our chances of playing in October. Maybe he will go the other way and pick up help at the trade deadline. As long as he keeps in mind the idea of sustainable excellence, I am all for it.

    The deal of getting a low priced Verdugo and two others for one year of Betts looks like a stroke of g[/b]enius.

    Lefty-on lefty, strikeout pitcher. Two errors this inning aren't helping.

    Be interesting to see what management does, if anything. Not many moves considering the weaknesses that are developing.

    JD may well look to opt out next season in order to get a multi-year commitment (3 may be) instead of more money any one year. If that is the case, the Sox may trade him this year, but I can't see it happening if they have a legitimate chance to advance in the playoffs. Barnes has become a premier closer and in my view the Sox will try very hard to keep him. E- and was probably thought of as value is dropping with multiple poor performances this year. Where do we get a quality left hander to replace him. Sale is one if he makes it back but it would be nice to have a second. Ottavino might interest teams who are serious contenders, but then if we are contending, we will need him. Marwin was a one year place holder replicable by prospects so he could be replaced this year but his flexibility is useful for us so he could continue in a super utility role.

    I believe both Duran and Casas will be on the 2022 team. Casas to platoon with Dalbec if Dalbec's trajectory is satisfactory for 2021. Dalbec can also sub for Devers at 3rd to rest him or to allow him to DH part time. The DH is by no means settled for 2022 with JDM in a position to opt out.

    May of the baseball writer advocate for Duran coming up now while you have seemed reluctant to give this kid a try at 24 years old. Duran has speed but he also has a much needed left handed bat while Wilson is another righty. The writers don't seem as worried about defense as you do. We have Santana and Hernandez in the outfield. Neither is doing all that well. Santana in particular hasn't caught on. How long do we give him?

    So the Sox lost to a very good offensive team while being without one of their best hitters (Bogaerts). No a great concern although having one turn around the rotation being ineffective does give me pause. The good news is Dalbec got an extra base hit for the 3rd game in a row. I am hoping they get back to their winning ways tomorrow.
