  1. For me the biggest question mark is what to do with E Rod.....can we get something for him this winter? Or hope he's back to 'normal' in 2021 and trade him at deadline? If we are shooting for 2022, only way he's a Sox will cost us. Not sure if I want that with some young arms coming up by then. I'm encouraged by both the Moreland trade and the Workman/Hembree trade.
  2. Officially I'm not counting on Sox being competitive until 2022. I just don't see it. It'd be like drawing an inside straight with Ace, 3, 5.
  3. What does Yankees must do in 2021 to get to the World Series? Any newcomers in horizon (not FA)? How long will the Rays last? Can they repeat what they did in 2020? Did the short season help the Rays more than the Yankees? Just curious....
  4. Sox Prospects top 15 1 Triston Casas 1st Round, 2018 by BOS 2 Jeter Downs acquired from LAD w Verdugo and Wong 2020 3 Bryan Mata IFA 2016 4 Jarren Duran 7th Round, 2018 by BOS 5 Noah Song 4th Round, 2019 by BOS 6 Bobby Dalbec 4th Round, 2016 by BOS 7 Gilberto Jimenez IFA2017 8 Jay Groome 1st Round, 2016 by BOS 9 Thaddeus Ward 5th Round, 2018 by BOS 10 Tanner Houck 1st Round, 2017 by BOS 11 Jason Rosario Acquired from SD w Hudson Potts for Moreland 12 Connor Seabold Acquired from PHI w Pivetta for Workman.Hembree 13 Nick Yorke 1st Round, 2020 by BOS 14 Matthew Lugo 2nd Round, 2019 by BOS 15 Hudson Potts 1st Round, 2016 by SD acquired for Moreland Is our farm system really that awful? Looks like we have some high ceiling kids on this list....Bloom already has made some shrewd moves to bolster our farm
  5. Just glad to see the Rays in the World Series. With that budget, they've done some amazing things. Glad we have one of their architects.
  6. Adjusted for inflation, he was as tall as Beni...
  7. Do you ever get tired of playing Monday morning quarter back?
  8. I meant Beni plays like a 5'7 guy because his wingspan is -3.
  9. Extending Beni makes absolutely no sense...hell his best days maybe behind him....putting on muscle was the worst thing to do on a 5' 7 body....now he's really slow.....
  10. good one...
  11. I stopped counting at $300....I can't comprehend that type of money.... Best quote from Ray Charles when told he lived modestly by an interviewer, paraphrasing..."No matter how much money you have, you can only eat three times a day"..I liked that...
  12. I think Kimmi is right in saying the goal is to get into the playoffs then anything can happen, good or bad. You pay Betts $300M because over a course of 162 game season, cream will rise to the top. But during the season, even Betts can have series of two or three where he struggles. So how well he plays during playoffs can vary from year to year. But I think pitchers are different. I'm not sure they go into prolonged slumps as do position players. Why? Not sure but maybe thinking a hitter is good when he hits .300 has something to do with it. Pitcher is still winning 70% of the battle. Pitching and defense still wins big games. So I would take Sale at his best over Betts at his best in a 7 game series.
  13. Mookie is 2 for 14 wit no extra base hits in the division championships. That just illustrates what a crap shoot the playoffs are...there are no guarantees....$300M is lot of money...
  14. If the Dodgers get knocked out, then it's been a perfect playoffs. We garnered a fourth pick for playing lousy for 60 games. It would have been difficult to watch/follow this team for 162 games. It was quick. Meanwhile the Yankees' young talent got year older and more expensive. If the Dodgers swing and miss, then their World Series drought extends another year. I can't wait for this off season. Our farm system looks to be getting stronger and fuller. There are some pitching prospects on the horizon.
  15. Whatever happened to Feltman.....wasn't he thought of as major league ready reliever coming out of college? LSU guy?
  16. We have to grab a pitcher.....again, please stay away from high school kid...
  17. I would like to hear from smart people on this board about what we can get at 4th pick....any can't miss starting pitcher? Please no high school kids...
  18. Yep, let's play by the rules. His injury was unpredictable. Not everything in life is fair. Celtics 1st round pick dying without ever playing.....Miami Marlins player dying in boat accident....Pedey getting injured is not the worst thing in life. I just hope he's able to function normally. I'd hate for him to suffer....
  19. You already knew your kid was going to flunk out school. You've already processed that. Then you didn't have to hear your neighbor brag about his son who didn't get the scholarship. There's a difference. We already knew Sox was going to suck. Now only if the Dodgers lose, trifecta.
  20. Yankees went another year without winning the pennant. In a 60 game season, many more of their arbitration players/to be players gained another year of service. Translation. The team payroll got more expensive and is coming closer the the cliff.
  21. It's really not time to butt up against the luxury tax limits with a $30M contract thrown in there.....that will cripple Bloom's ability to navigate next couple of years. You always have to remember that some of the younger talent will need bigger paycheck as time goes on..... Build a contender first, then go out and sign the best player....
  22. I guess it comes down to Bloom's ability to make/sign good deals. I love having Sale but if you gave me the option, I wouldn't want his contract right now.
  23. Other issue in the horizon is that current CBA ends after 2021 season. I thought owners got the better end of the stick last time around. But this COVID thing will be used against the players due to significant financial losses suffered by entire baseball. Sure the players suffered too but the owners will take care of themselves first. Not sure where the luxury tax threashhold is headed. If you had asked me last year I would have said jumping up to $220-$225M range but now I'm not sure. Obviously as a Sox fan, I want that number to be as high as possible. In essence it becomes our de facto player budget. Any thoughts?
  24. Core players Devers, Verdugo, Xander, Vazquez... Vaz can be extended at some point or could be a valuable trade chip. Would love to see Dalbec join this bunch.... I just don't see the playoff chase in 2021. I don't see Sale returning until All Star break. Not enough starting pitching depth. I rather Bloom continue to make incremental improvements via trades and small FA deals. But the big elephant in the room is the news that Sox had the biggest drop off in TV viewership in 2020. Not sure Henry's reaction to that. I hope he doesn't overreact. We'll see.
  25. Pedey's $13.75 after 2021 season ought to buy us a decent starter.
