  1. I agree. One day of mental health day should be enough. Maybe have that day around an off day. JD is a professional hitter. He needs to be in the lineup.
  2. 0-15 night from our top 5
  3. We've scored 4 runs on 3 hits....Big Red Machine, 2021 version
  4. Arroyo can't catch a break this season.
  5. Bloom is probably okay with our offense. It's pretty simple really. 1. Evaluate new CBA. 2. Bloom will not pursue JD if he opts out. 3. Will not rely soley on Dalbec as the 1B. But he'll keep Dalbec. He's cheap. 4. Team will evaluate how Schwarber plays 1B. Or if JD opts out, Sox will pursue Schwarber. 5 Arroyo will be our starting 2B in 2022. 6. Duran will be on the mlb roster 7 Kike will start at whatever position that needs help. Probably start in CF on opening day. 8. 2 catchers, Dalbec, Arroyo, Xander, Devers, Verdugo, Kike, Renfroe, JD. Will add a left handed hitting 1B and Duran, that's 12 if Cora wants 14 pitchers. Basically, savings from Pedroia's money will be given to Schwarber. I'm good with JD opting out. $22M frees up and that's not a bad thing.
  6. Well I was thinking more in line of replacement for JD, whose tax payroll is $22M. Getting Schwarber at less than $15M would help. He's as good left fielder as JD in my opinion. Or we can go with the committee approach for DH. Use regulars to fill that role. That, I'm sure will be cheaper.
  7. I've followed Schwarber ever since his college days at IU. He caught and batted second, which I thought at the time was rather odd, catcher hitting second. He has always been a hitter. I don't think that'll change.
  8. I'm okay with that. One of the three, Duran has already made an appearance with the parent club so we're down to Mayer and Casas. Casas maybe the heir apparent for JD. (not position wise, but bat wise). If Xander remains with the Sox, then Mayer should be his replacement. Let's just hope #1 ranked draft prospect by many will not be a bust.
  9. I was approaching the topic from what is Bloom's thinking when it comes to contracts with opt outs. Is Devers more of a priority than giving a raise to Xander? In theory, if his market value is MUCH HIGHER than $20M, then shouldn't we receive handful of top prospects for him? Is that a better alternative and focus more on Devers' extension? JD's money will eventually come off the books but his bat will need to be replaced, hopefully with Schwarber. If Bloom's approach is never to go all in, then I doubt we'll see player raises for guys already signed. Maybe grant an extension but not rework the contract.
  10. When drafted, many thought he would move right into the Sox pen. Glad to see he's still working to get to the majors.
  11. Moon, your thoughts on what it would take to sign Schwarber. Would 6 years, $90M do it? Would Bloom give out a 6 year deal? Is he worth the money we gave JD?
  12. Bloom won't give up on him. He still has too much upside.
  13. We are fortunate at this point to have Signed Schwarber Dalbec getting hot Arroyo back healthy Verdugo beginning to warm up We now have depth so that we can plug in Schwarber as DH to rest JD for example. Tonight I believe Dalbec will move to 3B, Schwarber to 1B and Devers to DH. Arroyo is at 2B, Kike back in CF as Xander returns. Offensively we should be set to compete next 34 games. We need JD to warm up.
  14. Wildcard teams' win totals 2019 97-96 2018 100-97 2017 91-85 2016 89-89 2015 87-86 I always thought 90 was the magic number. We need to go 17-16 to get to 90. To get to 90 win total. 17-16 Red Sox 20-14 Oakland 21-13 Seattle 24-12 Toronto 15-20 Yankees to get to 90
  15. I seriously doubt that....name a team and the players they would give up...
  16. Watching Twins' shortstop makes me think wow, that glove can help a team. Just not worried about Xander opting out. $20M/year for multiple years is nothing to snooze at. $19.3M is nothing to snooze at for our esteemed JD. Looks to me like he's replaceable with someone like Schwarber for less money. There are talent out there. We need to trust Bloom. There's a notion on this board that we need to pay Xander whatever he wants to keep him. That's why our payroll is bloated. Serious question. What do we get in return for Xander in a trade if he had no opt out?
  17. I like his chances vs the Yankees in a one game playoff. He'll negate their lefties.
  18. He's a good poster but his frequency here is strictly tied to how the Yankees are doing.
  19. Don't hit into DP
  20. So Twins have their own version of Barnes.
  21. I think we can go over with the thought in 2023 JD will be gone and the Price money will be gone, that's another $33M in savings.
  22. Would Schwarber go for something like 6 year $90M?
  23. what do we get if he turns us down?
  24. We just need to sign Schwarber. Team is pretty well set assuming no one gets hurt. $20.000M SS Xander 2022, opt out? $10.000M 1B Kyle FA $07.000M CF Kike 2022 $04.575M 3B Devers A2, A3 $03.100M RF Hunter A3, A4 $00.650M LF Verdugo A1, A2, A3 $00.582M 2B Arroyo A1, A2, A3 $04.517M C Vaz 2022 team option $22.000M DH JD 2022 he can opt out after 2021 That's only $75M before arbitration raises and Schwarber signing. There should be enough money left over to upgrade the pitching staff.
  25. He's done a pretty good imitating as a starter as he is now pitching in front of Richards and Perez.
