Precisely. Good (and mediocre) teams in the AL East inflated their records playing upwards of 18 games against the Baltimore Orioles. The Rangers and Angels experienced a free fall by going through the second-half meat-grinder of the Astros (50-22, .694) and the Athletics (46-24, .657). At the end of the day AL East teams were .500 in intradivisional play but below .500 outside the division. AL West clubs were .500 in intradivisional play but 34 games above .500 outside the division.

The "AL east meat grinder" finished with a cumulative record below .500 this year while the far tougher American League West finished 34 games above .500. AL West teams scored more runs than their AL East counterparts.

The Red Sox are unlikely to tender Jackie Bradley Jr. a contract unless the Sox already have a trade in place. Bradley probably is worth his projected 2020 salary of $11 million to some teams but not to the Red Sox because of the luxury tax restraints. If a trade has not been prearranged, a potential trade partner would have the leverage of the Red Sox pressure to get under the luxury tax threshold. The Sox don't want to be in that position. Then again, the Red Sox may simply to decline to tender a contract to Bradley.

The Yankees had a good team that lost to a better team (from the tougher division that includes my favorite team). Nevertheless, this poster will pull for the Washington Nationals in the World Series because when the Nats were struggling in April I saw two games in DC where my daughter works. No hate anywhere.
