  1. 5 IP, 3 ER, 2 BB's, 4 K's. I'm happy with that for his first outing.
  2. I'm not expecting any miracles from Price today. If'm expecting 5 innings and fewer than 5 runs It's going to be up to the offense to pull this one out.
  3. The more I think about this the more I think bringing Sandoval to the parent club is a done deal regardless of Farrell saying " until we get through today (Saturday), get a chance to work tomorrow before the game, then we'll have a chance to sit down and talk to him (Sandoval) at that point." During the post game interview on Saturday when Farrell was asked about the roster with Johnson being sent down he said, "...we'll be making a corresponding move tomorrow". IMO he almost let the cat out of the bag then. I'm disappointed that at least one of the reporters didn't ask what the corresponding move would be. The good news is that they're keeping Marerro on the 25.
  4. He's baaaack... or at least he may be back soon. http://m.redsox.mlb.com/news/article/232763590/red-sox-pablo-sandoval-on-verge-of-returning/ I'm a big fan of "If it ain't broke don't fix it". This team is winning with Marerro (and if he's going to remain I have to learn how many r's there are in his name and where they go ) at 3B. I see no pressing need to put Sandoval there while we find out whether he can work through his issues. His salary is not an issue to me and his playing isn't going to improve the product that's being put on the field, regardless of how much money he's making. I now see Sandoval as the "panic move" if the team starts to lose.
  5. I nailed this, BTW. That blonde was hanging off his arm as they left the park. This guy's a two-time winner!
  6. Yep. Such is life when you're a minor leaguer. I know we're 'in the moment' right now but he's not the first player to come up, have a good game, and be sent back down. What he accomplished today is he's moved himself waaay up in the Sox pitching depth chart. He'll be back. I just hope we don't expect another game like this one from him.
  7. IMO the thing that's really amazing about it is how many times he got hitters to swing at pitchers out of the strike zone. I don't know what he had going there but I hope he can keep it.
  8. May 27, 2017. The day this thread officially died. Or at least it should die.
  9. And in a related note, did anyone notice that hot blonde beside Johnson's dad? Is that Johnson's wife/girlfriend??
  10. Johnson needs to buy Bradley a steak dinner!
  11. Johnson seemed to pick up momentum as the game went on. I have to wonder if that quick lead gave him a chance to find his self-confidence.
  12. The fact that Price is back doesn't mean that Price is "Back".
  13. If this isn't a career day for Johnson I want to be sure to be watching when it occurs. Whether this is a breakout day for him remains to be seen but he's certainly earned another start or three.
  14. Amazing. He's throwing his FB @
  15. JBJ AGAIN!! I can't believe we have a thread about trading JBJ.
  16. I agree with everything here. Point #1 is spot-on. Whether he can play baseball or not is beside the point. He's a human being and his personal health is the most important thing. If he can come back and play ball, all the better. Now, assuming he comes back, I wouldn't be so fast to trade him. His versatility makes him valuable to everyone, including the Red Sox. When utilized properly he's the 5th OF as well as the UIF. He can sub in literally anyplace other than P or C - and the jury is still out on those positions. (Personally I wanted to see him pitch in a situation where the Sox had to use a position player, but that's beside the point). If you want to say that he's not as good as our backup OF - you're right. But IMO when healthy he's as good as our UIF and more versatile. Yeah, we can probably get something "good" for him, but is that player we're going to get going to help the team as much as having a player with his versatility?
  17. I thought JBJ may have set the tone for Friday night's game with his throw to 2B early in the game. If that play's not successful the M's have runners at 2nd & 3rd with nobody out. That's a lot different from having a runner on 3rd with one out. From there on in the M's seemed to be looking for a way to lose. Wild pitches and balls fumbled in the OF simply should not happen in MLB and without those plays we've got a 1-1 tie on our hands. I know I keep saying this, but DEFENSE is really important! The impact of poor defense isn't always evident in the box score so we tend to overlook it. The good news for the M's is that their players are better than that. I know that because if they aren't better than that they wouldn't be in Major League Baseball. The Sox certainly have kicked away their share of games this year and I was very concerned that 3B defense was going to be our Achille's Heel, costing us game after game. Fortunately Marerro is there filling that gap and keeping our opponents from scoring multiple unearned runs. I haven't seen any M's games this year other than Friday night's game but that team isn't as bad as they played last night. They just need to get their heads out of their asses, make the routine plays, and believe in themselves a bit.
  18. Great movie. I especially loved the end, where the Hispanic kid was pitching. His technique was right out of the Roger Clemens playbook. "Lean back to get leverage with the upper body, then push with the back leg, and BRING IT!"
  19. Actually... I like listening to Speier. He's like Bill James used to be - he always tells me something I didn't already know. But that doesn't mean that I don't think he's SuperGeek. I keep looking for his plastic pocket protector....
  20. To quote David Spade, He couldn't get laid in a monkey whorehouse with a sack of bananas.
  21. The media has screwed themselves in terms of credibility. We now believe that they all have their own agenda, to the point that we're so cynical that we wouldn't believe Real News was credible even if we saw it. ...or maybe I'm just speaking for myself.
  22. Bradley demonstrated on Friday night why he shouldn't be traded. He cut down a runner trying to stretch a nobody-out hit into a double, turning a 2nd & 3rd - nobody out situation into a runner on 3rd and one outs, and ERod got out of the inning unscathed. Then he doubled in his first AB, and scored on a WP later in the game. Yeah. He's a keeper.
  23. And there's the second reason!
  24. Ya. Me too, or maybe it's the Globe's new policy. I don't remember having read 5 articles this month so maybe they're going to be completely a subscription service now. Ugh. I like getting something for nothing!
