Thorne is absolutely dreadful. He got his start near where I live, announcing high school and then college games. How he got to where he is is a miracle to me. The only thing I can think of is that he has pictures of some exec with a young boy someplace.

That's on Devers. Vaz had the runner if he'd gone back to second base and Devers was watching the game rather than covering the bag. Holt looked but there was nobody there to throw to.

The way it was scored at the time meant that the official scorer felt that Xbo couldn't have gotten the ball to 1B in time even if he'd fielded it cleanly barehanded - therefore it was scored as a hit. The error came on the errant throw that allowed the runner to advance to second. I didn't agree with that in the beginning. Even seeing it live on tv (if there is such a thing) I thought his best chance to make the play was to handle it the way a SS usually makes a play - with the glove and then throw the runner out. IMO Bogaerts was showboating a bit and the official scorer bailed him out by only charging him with one error rather than two. It's not the first time I've disagreed with the official scorer and it probably won't be the last.

I agree that Devers needs to improve his defense but right now he's got to play 3B because he's all we've got. At least having him at 3B is better than what we had there pre-Devers.

But can you statistically prove that what Beni did wasn't the result of randomness and had nothing to do with an ability to 'dig a bit deeper'?

Not me. I would hate the possibility of losing to the Guardians, but the thought of losing to the Yankees trumps that 10 times over.

I think I agree, but that's just water over the bridge or under the dam or wherever all that water goes. I still feel the same way about what the team would look like today had we kept both Iggy & Bogaerts and spent what we spent on Sandoval on pitching instead, But at this point.... WTF. -

This has to be frustrating for the Yankees. They keep winning and can't gain any ground on Boston. Kinda makes you feel sorry for them doesn't it? No? Hahahahaha

I don't know what the story was on that pitch but Beni had shown no sign of being to hit that outside pitch so what do they do? Throw him an inside strike! Thanks, O's!
