  1. My belief is that once a team screws up an opportunity to score - or to get an out - that opportunity is lost forever and a team has to live with the consequences of it. Anything that happens before or after that has little to do with the missed opportunity.
  2. Reposted: Mental errors don't show up in the box score and our memories tend to gloss ithem over with the attitude of "Well, we had lots of other opportunities to win that game." That may be true but it doesn't alter the fact that the one error early in the game is what lost it. Everything else that happened...happened and that attitude is just a cop-out.
  3. The reason we don't remember it is because it seldom happens in the 9th inning with two outs. When the "mistake" happens earlier in the game we have to rely on our memories (and opinions) to determine if it's a mental error that caused the loss. 4. I think that's a very fair concern, but at the same time if we lose this season by a game or two it may not be because of a major blunder at the end, it will be because of the major blunders throughout the season.
  5. Are you aware that you've just used "Price" and "very good" in the same sentence with an implication of the playoffs?
  6. With all the research that's done about pitchers and what they throw and when they throw it, shouldn't we have a good idea of who has control problems and who doesn't? If a hitter is facing a pitcher who throws a lot of strikes he should be swinging at the first pitch he thinks he can handle - but not necessarily the first STRIKE. Maybe that's what they're doing. I don't know. It's possible that pitchers have done their research on the hitters too and they know what strikes a hitter doesn't like, but when I see a hitter take a first pitch in the middle of the plate I have to wonder.
  7. Sometimes these rumors about a player going where he wants to play may keep a team from making the strongest offer for a player. Look at Brad Ziegler. I'd liked to have resigned him but the consensus from what he'd said was that he wanted to go back West. Instead he's in Florida. Sometimes AD/DC is right and MONEY TALKS!
  8. I don't think anyone in professional baseball would come to boards like this looking for ideas but I can see them having someone monitoring the boards occasionally to gauge the mood of the fans. It's a business and we're their customers so wouldn't it be in their best interest to know what their fans are thinking? IF that's true then I could see someone reading about the idea of piggy-backing starters and mentioning that idea to someone with some real 'horsepower', who then might consider the idea. I spent a little time in local politics and I found that sometimes the best ideas came from some unexpected people. My post on that topic was written half in jest anyway, recognizing that while it's a slim chance it still is a chance. Whatever. It's all good. Sorry about the misunderstanding.
  9. Yeah, but everybody everywhere hated Albert Belle.
  10. I'm pretty much giving Beni a pass on his defense this year because of his offense and the fact that his defense is better than what I've seen for the past couple of years. IMO that throw today was the result of his trying to do too much a/k/a trying to do something he can't do. Something players at every level have to learn what they can do and what they can't do, and then stop trying to do things they can't do.
  11. I'll drink to that!
  12. He is definitely the ugliest pup in an ugly litter.
  13. See if you can find those two girls who insisted on feeling you up last week. If you can catch 'em sober it might be a good time! Hmm.. are your parents now going to accuse me of contributing to the delinquency of a minor? :-)
  14. AFAIK we never got the details but those two guys are immortalized in Red Sox history now. LOL
  15. I hope Valentin isn't actually getting paid for this.
  16. Hey! I was there for that! Sitting in the grandstand area looking right down the third baseline. I saw it happen but didn't know what was going on until I got back to my room and saw it on TV. All I saw was a flash of white in the stands.
  17. Two things Pedey did right. -Hitting a double to LCF -Verifying with the base coach THAT THERE'S ONLY ONE OUT! Watch & learn, players.
  18. Huh? Whaa?...Oh..baseball.... ?
  19. My God. How did this topic take on a life of it's own??? All I said was, "There's been a little speculation that the Sox read these message boards from time to time, and if they've ever considered doing anything posted here this is the time!" Just to clarify, just like nearly everything else I post here, it's JUST MY OPINION!
  20. 1). There were several consecutive posts by regular posters here who were discussing the idea. 2), "The Sox" was a generalization including anyone who might have any input into the Boston Red Sox strategy. It's not a matter of "caring" about what anyone here thinks. It's a matter of not automatically dismissing an idea just because it doesn't come from someone within the organization. And to answer your last question, assuming it's any of your business, between my ST tickets and what I spend at JB Park, my NESN package, my infrequent trips to Fenway, and the merchandise it's probably ~$2000. That doesn't give me the right to be listened to but it also doesn't rule out the possibility that I - or someone like me - might have an idea worth listening to.
  21. I question whether Farrell thinks boneheaded plays will pay off on balance. I sooner believe that he likes the aggressive game, but aggressive doesn't equal boneheaded. As Eck said when Beni bot thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double, that's just stupid even if he's safe.
  22. And how would you know that with any certainty?
  23. You call THAT a good excuse?????
  24. This. Completely this!! Give Price a three inning start (if he lasts that long) and then follow up with Porcillo for as many as he can go. There's been a little speculation that the Sox read these message boards from time to time, and if they've ever considered doing anything posted here this is the time!
  25. Thank you. This is what I've been preaching all along, that every game counts at the end of the year. That's why i get so upset about those boneheaded plays that could cost us a game. Every game is important.
