  1. JDM's defensive improvement shouldn't come as a surprise. We hear a lot about his work regarding his hitting so it's natural that he'd be working on his defense too. I'd guess we just don't hear about it because D doesn't get the 'ink' that Offense does.
  2. Ya. The ball was high up in the webbing of his glove and once he hit the ground he allowed it to come down nearer the palm .
  3. Well put. I've been there. At least the rug isn't blue any more.
  4. I disagree. He was "weak" (I'm being generous) during ST and at the beginning of the season but he's improved A LOT since them. He'll always be seen as a "bad" infielder as long as he's being compared to the three we have out there though.
  5. Also, on Friday the pitch before the one he hit for the HR was on the outside of the plate and he fouled it off to the left. Then the HR ball was slightly inside of the center of the plate and he hit it out. He's now doing more of hitting the ball where it's pitched.
  6. I believe you're right. Broadcasters tend to focus on the positive rather than the negatives so they give more pats on the back to the winning team. I try to remember that when the Sox are losing. However, that clown show on NESN is horrible - not because of their focusing on the winning team but because they seem to be playing to an audience that doesn't care as much about baseball as they do about all the peripheral issues like.... the quality of the food in other parks and how it compares to the park they're in, and how easy/difficult it is to get to the games.
  7. Hmm.. I see to have gotten a bit behind in this thread, probably because I had to clean up the coffee I spit all over my keyboard. I hope this thing still works when it dries out.
  8. Wouldn't we all? But if it were like that we'd be so overrun with flatlanders that Maine would be unlivable.
  9. I concur, on all counts. Unfortunately we have ESPN tonight and I'm expecting them to be their old selves dwelling on the quality of the food and condition of the rest rooms in Yankee Stadium. A few years ago ESPN's coverage of a Sox/Yankees game seemed like a circle jerk with Jeter in the center. Now it's degenerated into inane discussions regarding anything but the game. ESPN has become primarily a basketball station and they should stick to basketball. There's too much 'down time' in a baseball game for them to handle intelligently.
  10. Tomorrow night's game will probably be longer, but at least it starts later.
  11. Aha! Thanks!
  12. I'll say this about Bell: He has a tremendous command of the obvious.
  13. Those two things probably aren't a coincidence.
  14. "no matter the price tag" is a bit misleading. When it runs into the billions he's definitely too expensive. It's looking like he's going to be one of the 2-3 highest paid position players in baseball and if someone is going to pay him that much it might as well be the Sox.
  15. I can see why Trout hits a lot of HR's. He swings from the heels every time.
  16. I never went to the old YS so I can't speak to the *******s there but I've been to the new one and it has its share of *******s. Still.. congrats on the chance to do that. It sounds like a great time!
  17. ..and not because of the number of pitches hes' thrown tonight.
  18. Ok... who has a better all around defensive OF than the Boston Red Sox? NOBODY!!!
  19. Yep! Cora has been very lucky tonight.
  20. Interesting AB for JBJ. That second strike was away and he fouled it off down the 3B side trying to go with it.
  21. And in something totally unrelated to baseball, does anyone know why I have so much white space at the bottom of my posts, and what I can do about it?
  22. So when Phillips comes up does he get the ML minimum?
  23. Wow. Taking Barria out! Can you say "overmanaging"?
