    Of course if the M's had to play in the AL East they wouldn't play the Sox OR the Yankees. They'd be playing the Sox AND the Yankees. As Monty Hall would say, "Come on down!!"

    This is good news for Hammel. If things hold true he'll only give up a couple of runs tonight, which will be 3 1/2 runs below his ERA. C'mon guys! Get Sale some runs tonight, will ya!!

    Every bit as much proof as there is that Brady's footballs were underinflated. I notice there's no denial there that the bat was corked. That's a typical Yankee fan's response. Here's what a third party teammate of Dent's had to say about it: Acccording to Mike Torrez, `Mickey (Rivers) told me two years ago that Bucky`s bat was corked. If I had known that, I would have thrown him a spitter. Maybe that`s what I should throw Monday -- a nice wet one. No, he`ll get the same pitch.` Now smirk for me.

    Just as the poor records of Toronto, Tampa Bay and Baltimore can be explained in part by their having to play 38 games against the Sox and the Yankees.

    Yep. We could have two teams in the AL East with over 100 wins and one of them will be playing a team with possibly That points out precisely what is wrong with the current wild card system.

    In listening to Lucchino I never got the idea that he knew a lot about sports. I always felt that his forte, his role in management, was that he knew how to make money. Of course I also felt that he had all the personality of a STOP sign so that may have influenced my opinion.

    Whether they're overpaid depends on how much money the parent company is making. Is Kimbrel overpaid if his saves get us to - and WIN - the World Series? Or do we continue to speculate that an "unknown someone" might have done as well and therefore Kimbrel must be overpaid? I'll take one in the hand being worth two in the bush (in everything except sex) and take the known quantity. As I've said before here, IMHO most professional athletes are overpaid (and pampered) when compared to those people who actually do something to help society like doctors, teachers, and medical research professionals. We're just talking about how much they're overpaid.

    Even if Sale pitches 3 innings in the AS game he'll have three innings pitched in two weeks. This could be just the break he needs to help keep himself fresh going into October.

    And again we focus on offense rather than defense. :-( This only takes into consideration the offensive contribution of the #9 hitter. I'd contend that JBJ's contribution to the team is much greater than the usual #9 hitter's contribution because of JBJ's defense. IMO what he brings on defense far outweighs the couple of 'extra' hits the usual #9 hitter might get.

    Think about this if you will - This Red Sox team is doing so well that we have nothing to debate here other than whether to trade our GG-caliber Center Fielder who isn't hitting well. Isn't that almost called an embarrassment of riches?

    There's been a lot said about the impending cliff but as things now stand I'm willing to be happy with what we've got. While we may be able to say that Cherington would have finished the plan as well, right now we're able to compete with the Yankees and I question whether Ben would have been able to keep us competitive this year plus into the future. As much as I hate to say this it looks to me like the Yankees are going to be good for several years and if we're going to be competitive we should do it in 2018 while our ducks are in a row. As far as I'm concerned I'd rather finish first this year and 3rd in the next three years than finish second every year.

    ya. And the sooner the better, because if he starts to hit like he might we'll never be able to afford him.

    A Red Sox fan should never, ever, ever even think about feeling sorry for the Yankees. Do you think the Y's felt sorry for the Sox after BFD hit his corked bat homer? Or Aaron Boone hit his HR in 2013? I've had an assfull of the patented "Yankees smirk" and their entitlement attitude. As someone here has as their sig line, 0-162 for the Yankees wouldn't be enough. And I wouldn't feel the least bit sorry for them.

    I don't see why this is even an issue. Of course he shouldn't be traded. Something we should have learned by now is that the outfield is weaker in two positions every day he's being rested. We may be able to get away with that against weaker teams but when the playoffs come I want our regular outfield out there. Now that he's hitting I don't understand why this thread is even up.
