  1. Maybe Travis Shaw is the poster child for keeping Swihart around. IIRC Shaw had a horrible season - two half seasons consecutively) and had lots of chances to redeem himself in Boston and failed. Now he's playing like a Major Leaguer in Milwaukee. IMO this could happen with Swihart too. It's the chance you take when you trade someone. I agree with the window or not but I don't foresee the dreaded cliff. "Cliff" to me implies finishing last in the division for a couple of years. IMO the team may be non-competitive for a year or two, finishing 3rd while they reload but right now we're in this window and we need to make the best of it. In short, I'd rather have the players we have and win 100 games this year than not have a couple of them and win 90 so we can make a run in 2021.
  2. I have never questioned Swihart's effort, and I agree that 50 PA's is a small sample size. I also believe that the biggest mistake the FO made was in using up his option years when they did. It's one of the risks in bringing someone up. We'd like to give Swi 300-400 PA's but we're in a pennant race, we can't afford for him to fail, and we can't send him back down. As I understand it the purpose of option years is to keep a team from stockpiling youth in the minors and not giving them a chance to play elsewhere. It would be nice if players could request another option year (or two) with their team but unfortunately that's not the way the CBA is written.
  3. Then why isn't he in the conversation for 2B if Pedey doesn't come back strong?
  4. DD has made a lot of trades but there aren't many I'd undo. This team is in a dogfight to win the division and it's because of the trades/acquisitions DD has made. Anyone who's saying that the team would be better off if some of those trades weren't made is speculating and I'll take the 2018 Sox over speculation.
  5. You were on the old BDC forum so you must remember Jete02. Obviously a Yankees fan, but he knew how to make his points without running the Sox into the ground while doing it. Jete is still the Gold Standard for Yankees fans in a Sox forum.
  6. That really helps to make my point. I want to see the best teams in the playoffs, not the team with the one best pitcher. This (STUPID) one game wild card playoff can match a team with 100+ wins against a team with 90 wins and one outstanding pitcher in a winner-take-all situation. And to make that situation even more ridiculous, the those two teams don't have a chance to set their rotation so the two best pitchers will face one another. I've long been a fan of Crash Davis. He may be the one who first made me realize what was said in your post, that .050 difference in BA is one hit a week. Maybe that's why I still champion keeping JBJ in CF even if he's not hitting. I'm confident that he takes away at least that one 'extra' hit a week from the opposing teams. Maybe not one every week, but the next week he may take away two!
  7. I don't disagree with you at all and this is just an observation. I've always believed that there are many people who have the skills to play MLB but haven't performed in crucial moments. Some of them are in the minors and some of them are waiting on tables, selling cars, or building houses. Sometimes it's all about making the best of your opportunities and that's something Swihart hasn't done recently. I'm in the camp of Swihart not being given enough opportunities so the roster shake up with Hanley's departure is giving him more chances, but if he doesn't make the best of those chances then sooner or later.......
  8. I think you may very well be right. With Pom on the DL the rotation looks like.... Sale Price Porcillo Wright ERod I like it. And I also like Pom - when he's pitching well. The difference between this year and last year is that last year he was always in and out of trouble and this year he's just in trouble and can't get out. If he can work out his issues while on the DL we could have six starters in a five man rotation which is a good thing since you can't have too much pitching. If someone goes down we insert Pom and keep on rolling.
  9. Doesn't that use up one of his option years if he gets sent back down? Even once?
  10. LOL And Emp certainly doesn't belong in the game threads if he's expecting that! During a loss that place can be a cesspool of overreaction and negativity! (Those are the time when I just leave..eventually)
  11. Sure. If you stop trolling we'll stop calling you on it! :D Seriously though, you seem like an intelligent enough guy. You must know why some of us consider what you do to be trolling. I'm asking you to use a little common sense when posting here - keep in mind that this is primarily a Red Sox forum and the last thing we want/need is a [f***ING YANKEES } fan continually pointing out the pitfalls and shortcomings of OUR team. We Sox fans know what those pitfalls ans shortcomings are and your starting threads about it is 'over the top'. Lighten up a little on it and we'll be fine. Deal?
  12. BOOM! The whole story in one succinct paragraph!
  13. I don't doubt that, but giving a ~.500 team a playoff spot or making a team with 100 wins play a team with 90 wins trivializes the regular season.
  14. Good point. In my defense, it was a different kind of trolling though.
  15. I agree, and that's why Swihart is still with the team.
  16. Eck says JBJ can handle a ball away from him better than he can one that's in on him. Er... That's because his swing is (still) too big.
  17. There's something inherently wrong with that.
  18. I heard today that the Yankees cried and whined their way out of that ESPN game though. (To be fair about it I thought what ESPN was demanding the Yankees do was unreasonable though)
  19. How does one troll on their own team's forums?
  20. That's nice, but none of it negates the fact that he's been trolling a lot lately. Hell, he even admitted it a couple of days ago!
  21. I've come to like some of the announcers. My favorite (and just about everyone else's I think) was Vin Scully. I was known to stay up past my bedtime if I knew Scully was going to be calling a game on the west coast.
  22. Thank Vaz for that K!
  23. Don't be getting all greedy now. Wright has this thing well in hand. I hope.
