Tough inning for Price. He gives up a couple of questionable hits, botches a double-play ball, and makes a slightly errant throw to second base. I wonder how much all of that has affected his concentration.
Well... that was a ball that an average player would have had relatively easily. He made it look harder than it was.
It reinforces what I've been saying all along - that he's not a good outfielder - he looks very shaky out there - but he usually gets the job done.
All of that being said, it was a great effort and a very nice catch.
As I said earlier, it's the perfect time for Pedey to retire as a hero (to everyone but MVP ). He should forego his remaining salary as a player and then sign on with the Sox as a coach for the same pay. Win/win.
And in a slightly related topic, has anyone other than me wondered how fast Sale (and others) could actually throw a baseball if they just let it fly? I'm assuming that they have to 'take a little off it' in the name of control and protecting their arm.
Ya. That way the next time he puts his spikes on an opposing player's leg and ruins the remainder of his career it at least won't be a Red Sox player's leg.
Oh yeah. Totally unbelievable with a predictable ending. It stretched the idea of "Temporary suspension of disbelief" but entertaining nonetheless. The first time I saw that kid throw I knew how the movie was going to end. But what the hell? :-) It was the kid's motion that impressed me and made the movie worth the price of admission. I spent the entire movie waiting to see him throw again.
I'm still wondering if some of the old time scouts can hear a defect in someone's swing though. I don't think it's impossible. Some of those old timers really knew what they were doing.
This.
Holt's role never was supposed to be what it is now that Pedey's out for the season (?). No, he's not an all-star defensively but he's batting just under .300 with an OPS of ~.750. Who are we going to trade for that's available and we can afford who's going to be any better?
We should all remember this in March of 2019 if our pitching staff looks to be nine deep. s*** happens, and it happens frequently. Especially to pitchers, it seems.
