  1. If the Sox had acquired Gibson, whose ERA has been over 5.00 two years running, would you count him as a positive or a negative? I’d take Whitlock over Gibson. And Eflin…
  2. I think there is room for both. But my preference order right more is Kluber, Greinke, Eovaldi…
  3. And we don’t start playing games for 3 months. Those 3 pitchers all throw less than 130 IP and had dangerous peripherals. They’re not some irreplaceable core. You don’t think Yoshida and a new bullpen offsets some of Bogaerts’ 6 fWAR?
  4. Ok. So there are options. Also, why not Zack Greinke (ERA+ 111)? Or Zach Davies, who is just a hair behind Zach Eflin on the Baseball’s Best Zachary’s List?
  5. Simple question - last off-season, when it was actually happening, we were pretty hopeful, at least until we learned Sale had a broken rib and was going to miss 2-3 months. Now is this team better or worse than last year’s? The Sox have replaced JD Martinez (OPS+ 117) with Justin Turner (OPS+ 116), replaced Xander Bogaerts with Matadaka Yoshida (who, if he is like Nimmo, can replace Bogaerts’ bat), and added Casas and a bullpen. Eovaldi is out. Bello is in. Sale and Paxton (7 IP last year combined) certainly can contribute less, albeit not by much. They absolutely need more pitching depth, be it Kluber or Greinke or one of the Marlins. And other pieces can be added. A SS or 2b or CF would go a long way, too. But how much worse is this team from the 78-84 team last year?
  6. Yes if the off-season is solely about free agency. The CF free agent market was supposed to be Judge, Nimmo and guesswork. But Toronto did well on that market…
  7. Still worth pointing out, still December. Certainly having one already would be nice, but despite what many fans want, there’s no reward for finishing the roster early and no penalty for waiting until after New Year’s. I’m hoping this latest delay in moves is because the Sox are negotiating with Devers. But who knows? The one thing we do know is the free agent market is far from dried up. And the trade market, especially with the way the free agent market has been going, could be even more robust. Granted, the clock is ticking. We are now what? Six or seven weeks until pitchers and catchers report?
  8. And exactly why are you complaining about that? Who was the last team to win World Series with a pitching staff built through free agency? The notion of staying competitive by paying players in their 30s all the way into their 40s for what they did in their 20s might not yield the results you think it will…
  9. Hoping they don’t move Houck to the rotation. I don’t like the idea of a starting five that has 3 pitchers who ended last year on the Injured List. But of they do, please backfill Houck’s role in the bullpen…
  10. Both admirable goals.
  11. Yes you may have voiced displeasure with the JBJ trade at some point in the past. The Sox won 78 games. How many do they win with Renfroe over Bradley?
  12. Hopefully they release him … into the Alaskan wilderness while wearing salmon-scented cologne and a suit made of bacon…
  13. I suppose, but it’s been done bridge so there are precedents. I don’t know of teams still do that. I just assume not. If you deal him, get what you can. Don’t dilute the trade with another salary dump. And let his new team figure out out. If that new team is San Fran, they’ve already shown the willingness to spend $400mill and $350mill on other players, and kept all their cash. They will get a deal done, just to save face…
  14. It’s been known to happen. It can be part of the trade…
  15. Unless the betas saw each other and started fighting in your skull…
  16. This time there will be no “Buy Betts get Price half off” promotion…
  17. A lot less exciting. I was hoping they were now cups of water with a beta in each one…
  18. What are they now? Ears? Thumbs? Snow globes?
  19. I think so. The idea of paying Judge through age 44 probably felt different than paying Bogaets and Turner through age 41…
  20. Prediction: neither gets traded. Downs to Worcester. Hosmer to free agency…
  21. I can excuse the weak-visioned forum poster confusing Reds and Red Sox. Not like he told us where Arson Judge signed…
  22. If you move him to SF, then include Doval in the package. But not one for one.
  23. So throw in a couple weeks of Brandon Nimmo drawing walks and misplaying flyballs in CF and call it even…
  24. That price goes down in July, when Devers becomes ineligible for a QO if he can’t be extended…
  25. Camilo Doval!
