1. Call up Devers and demote Marrero. 2. Make a trade for Todd Frazier, assuming the White Sox don't want the moon. Chavis and Ockimey? Frazier is really the smart choice because he could take over for either Devers or Moreland if needed to. 3. Add a bullpen arm. Not Robertson. Hopefully we finally see Carson Smith, but what does anyone really expect from a guy who hasn't thrown a pitch in 16 months. 4. A depth starter might not be a bad way to go. I'd hate to see a meaningful September game started by Hector Velasquez or Doug Fister. This isn't an urgent need now. But if the White Sox want Brian Johnson for Frazier, it could escalate. ...

I would argue Bogaerts is the most expendable. He has the least control and his defense at short is more suspect than Benintendi's is in left...

Yes but the only teams that might be interested in Hanley would be contending teams. A team in contention isn't going to trade a hitter for Hanley. Not a hitter we want anyway. Basically this proposal was that the Sox need to trade Hanley for a hitter better than Hanley. That's not going to happen. ..

I don't think they mishandled Moncada. Just because he struggled isn't the GM's fault. He did demolish AAA pitching prior to being called up. Swihart was flat out stupidity.

I do think pitching depth ( starter and reliever) might a bigger need than 3b, where the Sox still have actual internal options. ..

The whole "not the good prospects" thing does make deals impossible. Those are mostly the guys Hahn would want. I could see a Sam Travis / Todd Frazier swap as plausible.

I'd rather they brought him up now rather than wasting prospects on some rental journeyman whose just as likely to go into a slump anyway. Marrero/Lin is still an option if Devers struggles. Of course the team will say he's not ready, and he needs to face more non-MLB caliber pitching in order to get ready for MLB caliber pitching. I do think sometimes "not ready" is GM Speak for "we don't want him reaching free agency by 27." Of course Dombrowski does have a track record for throwing the kids out there. (See Porcello, Rick.)

Instead of Carolina, bring Milwaukee back to the AL East. With Detroit, Cleveland and Milwaukee back in the fold, the AL East can look like it did in the post-Blue Jays expansion up though the 1980s. Who doesn't miss that awesome division?

Castillo may never be back, as Dombrowski is reportedly not a fan, calling him a "fourth outfielder at best" during his showcase. But right now, the guy has had like 300ABs spread out over 2 years, and played through injuries for a good chunk of that. His contract is a stumbling block, although not going over the LT limit this year removes many of those issues. He does play the outfield with reckless abandon, resulting in far too many injuries. And unfortunately for him, that style works. And while Dombrowski initial assessment was a disparaging one, it is worth noting that the role DD pigeon-holed Castillo into is the very role the Sox might use him for....

The last 3 expansions were a direct result of the owners losing lawsuits to the MLBPA for collusion. Until there is another successful lawsuit, MLB will not expand...

I don't think I ever saw a prospect I wanted gone for "sell high" reasons as much as Will Middlebrooks. Then again, I thought his eventual flop was so inevitable, I would hope every GM capable of landing an MLB job saw it coming too...

I do agree with Nick on one point, where I agree strongly - DH everywhere. Having two sets of rules for the leagues is stupid. It would be like if the AFC didn't allow kickodfs and just put the ball on the 25, while the NFC didn't have placekickers and every touchdown was followed by a two point conversion...
