  1. Will everyone like Martinez when he is getting paid over $120mill through age 37? I bet he gets close to that. The biggest issue with Stanton is if you think about, he's very, very likely to wind up on the Dodgers...
  2. Is there any demand for him? The Sox might be able to get a better return for Leon, not that he'll bring back a dazzling package either...
  3. I like Court, but I wonder how many years he'll want st 31. Also somewhat moot if the Sox aren't actually dealing Bogaerts. ..
  4. I'm warming up to the option of dealing Bogaerts and Bradley to get Stanton. It would be a complicated move since Miami likely wouldn't want them, but other teams might take them for prospects who could be packaged with, say, Chavis for Stanton. However this still leaves voids at shortstop and first. First might have to be filled internally (Travis and/or Swihart, as he has no options left). For SS, an available glove man like Freddy Garcia or Nick Ahmed (if Bogaerts goes to AZ, which is a nice fit) might be serviceable.
  5. Not sure but former Patriot running back Dave Meggett once hurt himself by trying to extract a post-service refund from a screaming whore. Close enough?
  6. Harry Agganis and his sudden death. Jim Lonborg's skiing accident. And who remembers Juan Pena? He started 2 or 3 games for the Sox in like 1996, including a two hit CG shutout. Then he went on the DL and was never heard from again...
  7. The Sox also had a top prospects named Andy (?) Yount who cut open his hand on a drinking glass and never pitched again. The Sox released him and didn't tell him, but he did read about it in the newspaper...
  8. Think we can add a starter better than Pomeranz? If Price comes back, our rotation only needs depth added. ..
  9. If that's the case, he'll want two from Erod, Benintendi and Devers, not short term Boras clients he can't extend...
  10. The Marlins post-season hopes ended with Jose Fernandez and dealing Stanton throws them into full rebuild, so players with 2 and 3 years of service time left have little appeal. However it is possible the Sox could deal Bradley (Cubs?) and Bogaerts (Dismondbacks?) for top flight prospects who could potentially be flipped for Stanton, possibly with not much else added...
  11. Exactly. And it does make acquisitions like Chris Sale pleasant surprises...
  12. Why do people get so upset when they are reminded certain players won't fit the budget? It's not necessarily true, but it's also not unrealistic to think there is a spending limit. If the Sox didn't have one, Edwin Encarnacion would be here already. And more important, these posts have zero impact on what this team does. Contrary to what some believe, Sox personnel do not go through this message board looking for ideas, and certainly not for reasons to refute them...
  13. The recently-fired Brad Ausmus has been hired by Dombrowski before. He'll certainly get an interview. ..
  14. Ohtani is the most important? Right now, the guy is all hype. Just likr Daisuke was at one point..
  15. It seems like people are wishing him into retirement now. We've all seen players with worse injuries hang on a lot longer....
  16. I could see JBJ'S dealt. His position is easily filled with either corner guy and a slugging left fielder isn't hard to find. And Dombrowski doesn't always emphasize defense
  17. He has two herniated disks, or basically the same issue Clayton Kershaw has. It's possible he is fine by spring training. But his triple crown days are over....
  18. One name no one's mentioning and with good reason is Miguel Cabrera. He's signed the same years as Votto but for more money. He'll cost less in players to acquire. And while his contact is horrible, it was written by Dombrowski, so he might feel differently. ..
  19. Signing Duda (OPS+ 109 over the last two years to squeeze out Hanley (OPS+ 111 over the last two years) strikes me as silly and wasteful. Duda isn't an improvement, won't be cheap, and will very likely want more than one season. And probably get a multiyear deal. In two years, fans will be trying to figure out ways to squeeze an overpaid Duda off the roster. Best move is to ride it out with Hanley....
  20. Hosmer as a target strikes me as the "best available player at a position the Sox need" type of thing. Sure he fits that criteria, but he's strikes me as a weak fit overall, especially for a team in need of more slugging. Jose Abreu strikes me as a much better fit...
  21. I really doubt Farrell gets fired after consecutive trips to the post-season. If he wasn't fired after consecutive last place finishes, why should he be fired after consecutive first place finishes?
  22. Well said. Also can we stop with the "this team isn't built to win in the post-season BS"? It's never made sense ever.
  23. Nunez aggravated his knee and was removed from the Sox post-season roster. His career with the Red Sox is likely over...
  24. Hey if they come back, this lined Fister up for the first game of the ALCS!!
