  1. That’s because you forgot the “Not A Yankee” factor...
  2. The only stopping point there is how stingy the Astros get with prospects sometimes...
  3. Now Betts plus Casas might blow them away. But would anyone be willing to pull that type of franchise-altering trigger?
  4. The Mets, per MLBTR, have said they’ll only deal Syndergaard if they get “blown away” by the offer. Benintendi plus Casas is far from blowing them away...
  5. It’s probably some Chris on a Yankee board. Davis would have only qualified if he refused that offer...
  6. But what if your name is Chris and you are a crazy, half-witted, retarded, idiotic simpleton? There has to be at least one out there somewhere...
  7. Pawtucket does appear to have very little talent. If Darwinzon Hernandez ever finds the strike zone regularly, he might be the only player on the roster capable of making an impact in MLB. There are a few pitchers who will make the majors as low leverage relievers, all of whom have made their MLB debut already except Kyle Hart. Pawtucket has no position players who look like MLB starters to me, and at best may have a bench bat or two. Chad De La Guerra has been the breakout star so far, but he’s a utility infielder at best. Sort of a lesser version of Tzu Wei-Lin. I like Cole Sturgeon as a fourth outfielder, but like De La Guerra, he’s getting a bit old. Beyond that, a bunch of career minor leaguers who will probably never see the 40 man roster. Portland has a few more interesting players, but that team really isn’t exactly loaded either. Dalbec and Chatham look good. Netzer has a shot. I think Duran is overrated but he’s certainly a potential player as well. Pitching is tough to project, but I think Mata, Reyes, and Houck should all make MLB. Feltman has been a disappointment.
  8. Maybe they did, but it wouldn’t be enough...
  9. But none are rentals. They’ve been connected to Boyd and Syndergaard...
  10. Then stop September roster expansion. Managers will learn to manage their bullpens properly for the other 5 months.
  11. I bet the Patriots never say things like “why can’t we learn from the Patriots?” If there is a downside to the mega-dynasty that is the New England Patriots, it’s the constant call for everyone else to follow their example. Know why the Sox don’t learn from the Patriots? BECAUSE IT ISN’T THAT EASY!! If it was, don’t you think maybe an NFL team or two might have done so by now?
  12. f***ing stupid rule. But it does kill job opportunities for the pitchers Jeff Passan used to call “is left-handed, has pulse”...
  13. Three if you count Roenis Elias...
  14. Well he did hire an agent at some point, and that agent’s job is to minimize that pay cut...
  15. 1. Walden’s Magic Carpet Ride appears to be coming to a stop. And he does have one option left. 2. Taylor is the only lefty in the bullpen and has been pitching better. 3. Brewer has actually gotten better as well. But demotion isn’t out of the realm of possibility for him at some point.
  16. My guess is Walden and either Hernandez or Taylor. Unless the Sox do something drastic like DFA Nunez...
  17. I think he might have to return to form or take a substantial pay cut to stay in Boston. But at the very least, they shouldn’t trade him this month just because...
  18. He did give up Willy Adames, but then Adames was only 18 at the time and a lot could have happened. But I don’t think losing Disabled Drew Smyly hurt Detroit. In fact, I think Smyly might have actually gotten injured in the deal somehow...
  19. It’s ok sometimes to let a player go to free agency. Porcello wouldn’t bring back much in a trade anyway. But more important, any trade of Porcello leaves an even bigger hole in an already underperforming rotation and becomes a white flag on the entire 2019 season. Which probably means Dombrowski gets fired. (You don’t spend a quarter of a billion dollars to give up at the midpoint without repercussions.) Which I think he might not want. The Sox aren’t going to sell. Dombrowski is like George Clooney in “The Perfect Storm.” He’s going to just ran this ship forward full speed ahead right into that oncoming tidal wave. Hopefully with better results. And if not, maybe Dombrowski can take some solace in the fact that Clooney then went on to make “O Brother Where Art Thou?”, which was a much, much better movie. Wait. Where was I going here? Oh yeah. Keep Porcello...
  20. No but the entire premise does involve NOT waiting until an asset is at its absolute lowest value before deciding to sell...
  21. The Padres can acquire any pitcher they want. Any reason you think they need to settle on Porcello?
  22. I’m guessing you don’t day trade for a living...
  23. If teams want to shift, let them shift. Let them move all 7 fielders to the same side of 2b if they want. Left-handed hitters will just have to learn to go the other way. If you hate Launch Ball, letting opposing teams over shift is part of the remedy...
  24. Per that trade simulator, a package of Stroman (26.8) and Giles (10.7) wouldn’t get either Tucker (63.1) or Whitley (48.2) at gunpoint. And that’s not even factoring in how unenthusiastic Houston would be about re-acquiring Ken Giles...
