  1. Wouldn’t those home records be built off of facing minor leaguers sent on bus trips to road games?
  2. Yep. The exceptions will be guys who are at the tail end of their careers who have never been on a team that has challenged for a title.
  3. Does it matter. The gist of it is no one is on the same page as Henry; unfortunately his page is the one that counts.
  4. Breslow is/was not President of Baseball Operations. Dombrowski is the only POBO the Red Sox have ever had. Breslow and Bloom both have/had the title of Chief Baseball Officer, which a subtle but I think significant difference. I don't think either has/had the authority the Dombrowski had. That is certainly the case when it comes to the budget. Kennedy, a non-baseball guy, has been running the whole shebang for the past few years, and the results show it.
  5. If anyone had any doubts that Red is a troll, post 1270 should put those to bed. Trolling 101. And some of you wonder why moon has no desire to meet with him?
  6. Mainly just one poster who is dead to me now.
  7. No, you just love bothering people. I have to admit, you are one of the best trolls I've ever run across. Like all trolls, however, you add nothing to conversations. People, don't feed the trolls
  8. He had a horrific last 3 months after he was traded but he was a decent pitcher for the White Sox for several years. He’s worth a risk for a one year deal with maybe some vesting options after that. He’s only 29. Unlike some of the never weres we’re kicking the tires on, he at least has a past.
  9. Grade inflation
  10. Per the referenced article, there have been several drafts without any HOF players. Near as I can tell, drafts that produced no HOF players include 1968, 1974, 1979, 1980, 1983, 1986, 1991, 1993 and 1994. Not sure when this was written, so there may be more who subsequently got to Cooperstown from the 80s and 90s drafts. I'm pretty sure that it only includes the draft from which a player actually signed a contract, so a college player who gets drafted out of high school but chooses instead goes to play college ball is counted only when he's drafted the second time and signs. https://baseballhall.org/discover-more/stories/baseball-history/caught-in-the-draft
  11. Boston got Ruth back, the Red Sox did not
  12. Another link to my teenage years Sox; he passed away on Saturday. Solid pitcher who filled a lot of roles for the Sox. He saved games 2 and 3 of the 1975 ALCS and pitched 3 scoreless innings of Game 6 in the World Series.
  13. For me it was the 1966 Series, when I had just turned 8. Orioles swept the Dodgers and for some reason, I have always remembered the scores of the games: in order, 5-2, 6-0, 1-0, 1-0.
  14. OMG, do you two ever effing stop? Moon, Red argues for the sake of arguing, no other reason. Your positions are clear. He’s never going to admit he’s wrong. Stop giving him what he craves.
  15. I think a bigger issue is who ever gets the job isn’t going to be able to name their own staff. Cora’s the most obvious, but there are also front office personnel who are being kept. A new GM is going to want to bring in his/her own people; ownership is apparently not allowing that.
  16. And you believe him? Now? Why did he not say it last year? Or the year before that? Or in 2021? Or in 2020? Neither side is clean on this.
  17. Anyone else catch the reference by the broadcasters to the Rays celebrating “clinching” their playoff spot in Boston after Wednesday’s game when in reality they clinched a week earlier? IMO, very low class and I think done on purpose. Contrast that with the O’s last night. The reaction to clinching the division on the field was pretty subdued, especially when you consider they are so young and lost 110 games just two years ago. I’m sure the clubhouse was a little more raucous. Congrats to them; it’s a heck of a story.
  18. That’s one way of looking at it, but the 2019 team started out with a similar length trip west and never really recovered from a horrific start.
  19. The Sox players don’t give a s*** about draft position; anyone picked won’t be there for years. They quit when the FO quit on them.
  20. Dalbec is 28 and has had numerous opportunities to seize a job; he is not a prospect.
  21. Actually, I said they quit when the FO quit on them. They were 2 out when Bloom decided to do nothing, even though guys like Jansen (who knows a thing or 2 about being on a winning club) and Devers were begging for another starter or 2.
  22. Like I wrote a night or two ago, memo to Red Sox, if you hit the ball with a guy on third, maybe something good will happen.
  23. Isn’t Antonetti PBO with Cleveland? That would make a move to Boston a lateral which means: 1) The Red Sox would have to ask permission to talk to him at all and 2) The Guardians would almost certainly require compensation should he leave
  24. They didn’t care any more. Kenley’s interview with Bradford today said a ton about what happened after the trading deadline. As I posted somewhere yesterday, Verdugo went straight south the second half after it became apparent the Sox were not interested in extending him. Devers was trying to hit homers every AB all season. Casas got hurt, removing a big part of the offense (he was good after May). Turner got hurt and tried to play through it; it worked for a while but it caught up to him.
