    At this point Workman should stay in and take it. Of all the pitchers in the BP, he has shown nothing in the postseason. The others have at least had some good innings. Workman has been hammered all 3 times he’s appeared.

    You could not have grown up with 2-2-1-1-1 in baseball. With the exception of one year, baseball has used the 2-3-2 format since the early 20’s. They even used it during all the Subway Series in NY and when the Browns and Cardinals met one time. The one year they didn’t it was 3-4 due to travel restrictions during WWII. I know basketball and hockey have used the 2-2-1-1-1 format but those sports almost never play back to back days in the postseason.

    Buckner was a goat for the 1986 series but not just because of that play. The boot overshadowed an eminently forgettable series by Buckner, one where he slashed .188/.212/.188/.400 with 1 RBI; he ended 15 innings in 33 PAs. Much was made of Jim Rice failing to drive in a single run, but Rice batted behind Buckner and led off 14 innings; Rice had a good series, slashing .333/.455/.444/.899 and scored 6 runs. He seldom came up with men on base and was pitched around when he did. McNamara not only blew it by leaving Buckner out there in Game 6, bur also by not changing up the batting order once it was obvious Buckner was struggling at the plate.

    You need 4 starters for 7 games, so it's him or ERod, who hasn't exactly been lights out since he came back and has been groomed for pen duty for the past month. Yes he gets a start, probably 2. As Bellhorn said, short leash.

    1) He's a 10-5 guy, so he goes no where without his consent. That will mean ponying up more $ to buy said consent. 2) He's been hurt for 1 1/2 years. Who is going to chance that, even at a below market contract? Any trade would involve the Sox paying a lot of his contract, which sort of defeats the purpose of the trade. Bottom line, trading him probably costs MORE than his current contract.
