  1. I just hope the 3--4-5 guys are 100%. That's where the most important part of the line up is, and all three are probably not 100%
  2. Gee, fellas, we can't win 'em all!
  3. Three complete innnings, and I have'nt seen a change-up yet. I hope he saving it. I can't see going 7 with consistent 82 mph fastballs, can you?
  4. And you are totally ignoring the new Kid?
  5. You're doing better than I am, Dewey! Of course, ost of them don't understand me, either.
  6. You're right. I would stick w/JBJ. He is what he is" a great outfielder, and off and on at the plate. I certainly would play Young against some lefties, and that has the advantage, also, of giving JBJ some rest. This is one helluva a long season.
  7. Maybe I don't hunt and scroll as much as I should. But, I wonder why I had to hear the Benintendi life story (a whiz bang from age 5) from Vin Scully? At various intervals, Scully ran thru his life story. Whiz bang here, all this and that someplace else. Based on that, I wouldn't worry much. Get him in there, and leave him there. I'd rather use Young as a PH, replacement for Bradley now and then, etc. Right now, it's Ortiz and Hanley that are killing us. Hill and Shaw can be platooned and that won't hurt us. Bogaerts needs a week off. His head is not in sync with his swing, and it's affecting his fielding as well. As long as we have three or four guys hitting at the same time, we can manage. It's that AH bull pen somebody put together that's KILLING us. If they're going to keep gambling, they might as well take a shot at the blistered Rich Hill. Blisters don't last forever (I remember Williams' every single spring training. He never used a batting glove, and simpler suffered through the healing process). The Dodgers are pretty fed up with Hill, and might sell him. I wouldn't give a lot, but then it's not my money, is it?
  8. Wed to Sat is a long time. Buch needs a kick in the ass, not babying.
  9. Well, I don't think that was an excuse. eRod had aleady been named for Thursday, and Buch was set for Saturday. That's three days away. He sure doesn't need th rest; he's been pitching about 3 innings a week. Seems to me he needs the work, not the rest. I would have left him in until he showed he didn't have it. Right to the end.
  10. Do we have a scouting system any more? Every new pitching re-tread we bring in is as bad as the last guy. We needed a left fielder and bingo, there's a new phenom waiting for his chance. We need a new catcher, and what do you know. here's a guy who can hit (a switch hitter, no less)! But half the bullpen would get knocked around in Portland. Why can't we find 3 or 4 real good flame throwers for the bull pen?- And it's bad enough having a bull pen full of guys who can't pitch, but we have a manager who shouldn't be on the bench. I was shocked when he took Buch out after one batter. A couple of pitches and it's out No. 3. So why take him out? Saturday's a long way off!
  11. Why was Buch taken out after only one batter? I know he i scheduled to pitch Saturday, but this would be a normal "throw" day for him. He could have gone at least another inning or two---or, maybe the distance. I don't get it.
  12. 91 and counting. Yes, Ft. Myers since 1978. Age 0-7 in Keene, NH. Age 7 to 18 in Somerville. Age 18 to 23 in US Army. After that, who cares? My long time position that Betts should hit in the middle of the order, not lead-off. I could live with Pedroia or Bradley at lead off. Pedroia the most obvious choice. Betts OBP was .350 the last time I looked, and his BH with men in scoring position is off the charts.
  13. Thank you. I just answered a post with a not-so-subtle I told you so. Maybe I deserve at least a wrist slapping!
  14. JF has been reading my posts since April. Wonder why it took so long!
  15. It's hard to win. NOBODY saw Leon coming. EVERYBODY said, "send Betts dpwn", The Sox hustled Teddy's ass to Minnesota for a year, and we yelled all year long. Somehow we found ways to get the minor league results, and every time Teddy hit one out all you'd hear was, "bring him up!?" Finally Cronin said itr was his dispostion and cockiness that was keeping him in the sticks. Betts is now a candidate for MVP and Leon looks like Yogi. Right now it looks like they left the new kid down there tOO long, and the before you know, (but before the yelling stops), he'll go 1 for 18, and they'll be screaming from both sides.
  16. Benintendi reminds me a bit of Yastrzemski at the plate. They’re about the same height and weight and have similar swings. Benintendi’s swing is a bit smoother and compact, and he has yet to fill out. Of course, Yastrzemski tinkered with his swing a lot during his career, so it’s hard to come up with one single typical Yaz swing. Yastrzemski: Benintendi:
  17. Right people, wrong batting order.
  18. Have the 3 Bees Boys become the 4 Bees Battalion?
  19. No, no, Broack; not when i's in the dirt. Whatever happened to the Brock Holt we knew and loved last year/
  20. What in the world is Brock Holt thinking about? His next TV commercial? Swing, young man, swing! Maybe you'll get some base hits that way.
  21. Xander looked terrible that last game in LA. Like he didn;t want to be there. Maybe the announcers will have more news, and I hope it's simply a "planned day off."
  22. That could work right now, except we really don't know Moncada. From what I read, his power is awesome, but doesn't he strike out a lot? I wonder of we'll see him until spring training. Plug Encanaciana in that hole and, iin front of Betts, he'll see a lot of good pitches.
  23. The lead off hitter is considered one of the most likely players in the lineup to get on base. Mookye's is .350. The number 3 hitter is usually the best over all hitter in the lineup. That's is Betts. Mookey's "BA with men in scoring position/ is NEARLY .500!
  24. Without any AH side kicks!
  25. I have no doubt that he will be starting again and soon. So who sits? Not Wright, not Porcello. After that it's a toss up. Even Price is not in any way dependable. A six man rotation has been discussed ever since somebody invented the slider.
