  1. That's where he was when he started hitting. Makes sense to me!
  2. Yes, we saw all that. Is it fixable?
  3. Coincident? Slumps happen, but not to 60-70% of the team at the same time. There are 9 guys playing more or less regularly and three or four more platooning, etc. Two thirds of them are playing like they have no idea what's going on. That includes Leon who suddenly looks, probably, like he did in 2015. Can't blame it on the road trip. It started long before that. We can look at the 30 day numbers, and see that they are mostly under .200. To think JBJ can bounce back like he did previously may be wishful thinking. Pitchers and pitching coaches aren't stupid. There have a million films from a million different angles, and computer data they may now know how to use. Several other teams are tanking at the plate also. The strike zone will have to be addressed before too long. Strike are being called on guys on pitches that nearly brushes them off. So, why are Pdroia and Betts the exception? They both have shown they can hit the high fast ball, and pitchers are not gibing either one of them that pitch very often. So, they are exceptional hitters, and will be content with singles unless the pitcher makes a mistake. Xander will catch on, too. But I wonder about the others. I go with the bring up Moncada crowd.
  4. Well, Kennedy's only claim to gloru is that can locate hist high fastball. and guess what? Only three guys in our entire lineup can hit a high fastball. Bradley and Shaw never could, and I'm sure that Leon ever could either. The league has caught on!
  5. You mean he's been working out at 3B here in Ft Myers and hasn't even swung a bat? That's hard to imagine. Ten years ago when they were over there off Edison Ave., I would have spent a little time checking it out. But those days are gone forever!
  6. Certainly Panlo or Moncada will be our third baseman for at least the last 20 or so games this year. You don't have to even look at Sandoval's fielding stats in the past to know he was a far superior 3rd baseman than is Shaw. I'd like to see them compete for the job for the rest of the season. Pablo looks to be in shape, and Moncada is hitting Ruthian shots in Maine!
  7. Well, combined numbers for the last month for JBJ, Bogie, Shaw and Holt are 81 for 419. That's .193, and that's for a month. How can this kid be any worse? Plus, I think the pitchers will have a tougher time getting his number than vice versa. The other night he was on 5 times: HR and 4 walks. I love the walks part of that as much as I like the HR that won the game!
  8. Bring him up tomorrow. Tell him, for better or worse, you are our new third baseman. You'll hit 5th behind Betts and Pape, and Good Luck!
  9. Finally, a real hard hit single. And by the way, Rich Hill thjrew 6 inning, 3 hits, no runs, 0 walks 3 K's last night against the Giants. they going to let Pomeranz slip away that easy?
  10. There has been nothing so far that rembles a base hit. This is a tired bunch.
  11. Lefty, right, this is a very tired ball club. Maybe a late energy surge (because we're going home---finallu) will get them through this 11 game trip. I don't have to name them. At least 5 regulars are sleep walking. But not not the old guys who have been there before. Pedroia and Ortiz. Except for Betts (who seems to have been born with a store house of energy) the younger guys are feeling the grind---or the pressure. Hopefully they'll come home after an 8-3 road trip (even 7-4 would have been acceptable before the trip started). Benintendi seems to be done for the year. It would be stupid to bring him back for 20 games after an injury like he experienced. He'd only start favoring that leg, and bingo, the least little jar and the other knee needs to get scopped. No, I don't want to see him again until spring traning.
  12. I feel like this is a "sneak-peek" at the rest of the season. Do we fold like a skinny pizza? Or does someone step up and take charge?
  13. Wrong. The right play is for everybody to move on that play.
  14. [ QUOTE=mvp 78;1024184]@redsoxstats Bogaerts another IF fly ball... has the 2nd worst infield fly ball rate in MLB, up 60% from last year. I/m ready to add Bogie and JBJ to my "temporary" AF'ed U list. They need about 3 days on the beach (or something)
  15. Pedroia is one of the steadiest players on the team. Both Bradley and Benintendi have been weak, of late, and evern Mookie's power numbers are droppiong off a little. I hate to think where we would be had Leon not shown up out of nowhere! Re/Mookie. his 7 day triple stat looks like this, .310/355/.517 This is quite different than hie 15 day sheet which shows, .344/.394/.639. In another 3 days, however, he'll be looking at that wall.Since dropping to the 4 spot, Ortiz has been getting the pitches to hit, and Mookie has not. When Betts was No. 3 and Ortiz No. 4, it was the other way around. Either way, they are still the best all around three-four team in the AL. Still, here's a cheeer for Leon. Nickname? I'd suggest Big Lee.
  16. That;s exactly what the Ray's announcers having been talking about all night!
  17. End of six, Price looks exhausted. Time for BP action? If so, who? Hopefully he can make the seven. Well, so much for that prohesy. Nothing like an eight pitch inning to change things for the better.
  18. I was just informed by the Ray's announcers, that since the All Star break, the Ray's have ha a better offense than the Red Sox. Scoring betther than 8 runs/game. Also, that Snell is prihected to be the best Ray's pitcher of all time!
  19. NESN, of course, blacked out here in Florida. I'll have to turn off the sound, or listen to this guy Anderson describe every pitch, why he threw it and why the guy was lucky to get his bat on the ball send into the RF corner for a triple. The other nitwit, will be complaining about every close pitch Snell doesn't get when, obviously, it was "right there"
  20. [quote name= I normally accept all managerial in-game decisions but hold managers, Farrell included, accountable for overall wins and losses. On July 28 or August 12, I would have been fine with firing Farrell. But I honestly do not sweat the small stuff the way you do. As I recall, you also agonize over "miscalled" balls and strikes, whereas I firmly believe they do not prevent the better team that day from winning, nor do they prevent good pitchers from excelling and weak pitchers from failing.[/quote] Umpires are human. They all miss at least 20 pitches, badly, each night. Big deal. They are not partial to wither team, and I don't think it hardly ever affects the outcome of the game.
  21. The Thursday (8/19) lineup was about the best you will see all year---on any AL team. I haven't looked at the numbers, but the 4 straight lefties at the bottom of the order (against RH pitching) is about as good as it can get. To do maybe a little better against lefties, Young could replace the New Kid in left and switch line up spots with whichever lefty is playing third. Thankfully we have a switch hitting catcher and that sure makes things easier! I sure wouldn't touch the first five spots. Very fw nights will go by without at least two of the hitting!
  22. Betts chasing Ortiz around the bases, for a second or two I thought we might have a dead heat.
