  1. Relative importance maybe?
  2. I was a senior, Somerville High, in 1942 and did not turn 18 until December. When we returned to to school after the Christmas holiday, our HS prinical and my English teacher were gone are soon would be. I have no doubt that a lot of good players didn't even get to spring trainging! I don't think it mattered much to Williams wjo was pitching/
  3. Mookie & Ted, 4th full seasons
  4. Sometimes numbers jump around like fish in a pond, so maybe there’ll be a boo or two in here, If so, they’ll be obvious! NOOKIE VS WILLIAMS in 4th full seasons. Adjust for games played, and ??? WILLIAMS in 1942’(WW2 is on) BA 356 Games 150 HR 36 Runs 141 RBI 147 SO 51 BB 145 TB 338’ Runs 147 TB 338 MOOLIE in 2018 BA .352 Games 75 HR 23 Runs 141 RBI 49 SO 51 BB 43 Rubs 76 TB 198 Take your pick fellas!
  5. Leave this team alone !!!
  6. We'll need more than a half dozen runs tonight. I hope I'm wrong.
  7. Of course why shouldn't Tabor come up with 100+ RBI? He hit behind TW! Who was either strolling the bases or standing on one every tiem you looked up!
  8. It's a very tough call if you have only stats to go by. The 1941 team had 3 plyers with more than 100 RBi (incl Jim Tabor) and 2 others with 90. Hoever, Williams was the only one with more than 20 HRs. Tabor played handball with the LF wall! Williams .406 lead the way, but Foxx, Cronin and Doerr were also still active andall stars on their own. The thing that, I think, that makes this a "better" team is in the speed, defense and versitality that this team has. That and the incredable performances by Betts and JD. Guess I gotta go 2018!
  9. Bottom line---FF and Cora have put together the best Red Sox team ever.Yjink Bogaerts and his pop fyl hits ti RF, Look at him now. ThinkBetts with hi bat waving and taking strike one. Think second base where a perrevial all star is not even missed because tw the shoes get filled everyday, Think catcher where a VG fielding catcher will not be missed. (take the No 1 catcher off other teams and you're in trouble. (good examples all over baseball). Even the pitching is as good as we have ever had! When the season got under way, we could bet that the WORLD SERIES would be won by either the Red Sox or the Yankees, Only MAJOR injuries can keep that from being the Sox. The Foxx, Doerr, Cronin teams were funto watch, but thi this team can field and run as well as hit.
  10. Thanks, Deweu!, Reminds me of one of everybody's favorites, Casey Stengel Bees won barely enough games in his first year tofinish a fraction over. 500. After that, they were sometomes lucky to over .400! Then to the Yankees and .600's every year. Lousy team vs great teams, OK. But the 77 year schooling didn/t hurt. He was fun to watch no matter where he was!
  11. Why? No. 1 He understands that this is mid-season; bot September. His relationsship with umpires. He undertsands the problems that go with the job. No player is on the field that is not in the best condition that he can be, He knows pretty well when a player has had an off-day as opposed to being fully incapable. His relationship is 1-1 as wellas. His coaches are into the game, and notcaught up in the numbers game. His players become player-coaches with 100% clubhouse agreement. He gets his pitchers off the mound when they NEED to get off; not when their win-loss column is affected. Every player on this team seems to know he is there for him, and not the front office. I don't know who had the final say when Cora was selected, but they bot deserve a raise!
  12. My apologies to NESN. I'm watchng this game on the Foc MLB netork (one of thir 3 games of the night or some such s***. Announcers OK, and the lung cancer commercials run right along with them. Bac to bacl, every 1/2 inning, etc. SHAME ON MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL1
  13. The next time I see Price I want it to be out of the bullpen with the score something like 10-1
  14. Price has become a high dollar liability. Looks like he traded in his high leg kick and good fastball for nothing.
  15. How hard up must NESN be? Does the same"new drug" cheap commercial come up EVERY HALF INNINg on the regular TV? I am in FL and watch the games on MLB.com. Fairly good feed for very little money, BU THESE COMMERCIALS! eVERY 1/2 INNING! nO LET UP! eVERY GAME? iT'S ACHEAP, CUT RATE COMMERCIAL THAT MUST HAVE COST $50 TO MAKE. STOP IT, NESN!
  16. It is obvious that Cora is already planning for the playoffs. And doesn' really need my advice. But here it is anyway/ Make doubly sure that Wright is Right when we get to mid-Se[tember. He could make all the difference especially seeing one end 4-3 instead of 3-5/ The guy is unhittable when healthy, and useless when he isn't! (which seems to be a lot of the time!)
  17. Scully will always be the model, that's for sure. Some of these guys keep predicting a sinker, outside corner, aronf the knees, becaue the catcher has hid glove hand on his knee and while his right hand while he's picking his nose with the right hand. Just shut up and show me where the ball has been hit!
  18. I may hate your politicsm but you sure know how to present a baseball game! No "he hooked it into the center field stands"; no more "that's 5 punch-outs". no chit chat about signing into your next hotel. Instead, the obvious differences between this year's Red Sox dugout and last year's Sleepy Hollow" came through almost every inning. They were ready for the Devers explosion with before and after shots of his present stance and his old "foot in the bucket" stance. They were ready with Martizez and and his obvious contributions and influence on Devers. No more witing until pitch number 6 to find out the count was 2 and 2. All this was proabbly more vivid for those, like myself, who are 93 years old and have advanced macro-degeration eyesight. GREAT GAME1
  19. Sure, we can get a sub-ballboy for out .178 hitting center fielder!
  20. We;;, I see that it is still "Sleepy Time in Twinsland!
  21. Are there aby stats (of course there are!) that will show that long road trips (more than 8 games) can start off like Gang Bisters and wind up like We The People! Our boys look like they;re sleepi walking lately! If this is so due to the long West Coast road trip, we may still be in pretty good shape!
  22. Anybody counted the number of called third strikes?
  23. Hey fella's! What happened to the "more aggressive" plan? At least the Mariners are swinging! Let's try THAT once in awhile!
  24. I see Martiez is hitting third tonight. I guess that completes the Murdererd Row. Betts-Benintendi-Martinez!
  25. Good question. Bogie is a big drop-off (at the moment, anyway) between the 2 and 4 hitters. Anyway, seems to be workingg just fine.
