  1. I'd have given those three, if the 4th one was not Moncada or Swihart. If it was Kopech, I could probably live with it. Again, I'd rather have Quintana than Sale.
  2. Even Papi declined at ages 32 and 33, but then in a most unusual turn of events, hes' had a second career from age 34-40.
  3. I think we may need Swihart (and others) in a trade for a young number 1, especially if we are counting on Moncada for the future at 3B and Beni in LF. We could trade Beni and others and keep Swihart for LF and 3rd string catcher. I mention a "number 2", because I want to keep Bogey, Betts, JBJ and Moncada. If we keep one from Beni and Swihart, I don't think we can get a "young ace" for Beni, Devers, Kopech and Travis.
  4. Let's say we hit pay dirt and fill our LF need with Beni and our 3B need with Moncada. If we want to add a SP'er, 2 RP'ers and a DH and stay near the luxury tax limit, we will have about $30M to spend (assuming the limit goes up to $210M). Two decent RP'ers might cost us $10M a year combined, if we're lucky. I suppose we could hope to fill one RP'er slot from within the system (Barnes, Hembree, Ross, Layne as our 4-7 RP'ers behind Kimbrell, Smith and 1 acquisition) at a cost of $6M. That leaves $24M for a SP'er and DH (or 1B if HanRam moves to DH). One reason I liked the idea of getting Sale or Quintana is that Sale's contract only counts as $6.5M towards the luxury tax budget. That would help our budget a lot for 3 more years.
  5. "Clutch hitting" is not something you can identify as a skill, let alone go out and trade for it or draft it or sign it as a FA. We have to hope some one or a few of our players take up the slack. After all, we have won some playoff series without Papi doing anything spectacular.
  6. Was he ever ranked top 100?
  7. Miller was under team control for 2 more years at a reasonable contractual cost. The Yanks sure built up their farm though. Dealing away Miller shows they may be looking further down the road than many expected. Aroldis Chapman for Gleyber Torres(Ranked 27th nationally), Adam Warren, Billy McKinney (4th ranked on team farm) & Rashard Crawford Andrew Miller for Clint Frazier (ranked 21 nationally), Justus Sheffield (ranked 69th), Ben Heller & JP Feyereisen Carlos Beltran for Dillon Tate (Rangers' 3rd best prospect) and Nick Green Ivan Nova for two players to be named later. Vicente Campos for Tyler Clippard
  8. I'd have given Swihart, Devers and Kopech and probably more.
  9. If that was all, I'm going to be sick.
  10. The Yanks sure built up their farm. Dealing away players like Miller, who was under team control for 2 more years at just $9M a year shows they may be looking further down the road than many expected. Aroldis Chapman for Gleyber Torres(Ranked 27th nationally), Adam Warren, Billy McKinney (4th ranked on team farm) & Rashard Crawford Andrew Miller for Clint Frazier (ranked 21 nationally), Justus Sheffield (ranked 69th), Ben Heller & JP Feyereisen Carlos Beltran for Dillon Tate (Rangers' 3rd best prospect) and Nick Green Ivan Nova for two players to be named later. Vicente Campos for Tyler Clippard
  11. I know, Coulda, shoulda, woulda gets us nowhere, but at least it's not hindsight judging on my part.
  12. Matt Duffy did have a .762 OPS last year with SF, but I do not think he's all that great. Lucious Fox was the big prospect involved , IMO. I found this on baseball Prospectus: 2. Lucius Fox, SS DOB: 07/02/1997 Height/Weight: 6’1” 175 lbs. Bats/Throws: S/R Drafted/Acquired: Signed July 2015 out of the Bahamas for $6 million Previous Ranking(s): Not Applicable 2015 Stats: N/A Future Tools: 70 speed, 55 hit Role: 50—Average regular up the middle Fox, who played high-school ball in Florida, likely would have been a top-20 pick in last year’s draft had he not been declared an International Free Agent in April, a ruling that earned him an extra $4 million or so. He oozes athleticism and has a swing that works from both sides of the plate, staying through the zone with quick wrists and very little wasted movement. There’s more power from his natural right side at this point, which will probably change as he gets stronger; still, anything more than 40 power is unlikely because of his size/swing plane. The approach as a Florida prep left a lot to be desired, though there’s plenty of time for that to develop. He has the speed and arm strength to stick at shortstop, but plenty of scouts I spoke with believe his ultimate landing spot is center field. The Giants will give him every chance to stay in the infield, and if he can he’s a potential .280/.350/.400 player who can steal 40 bases.
  13. Makes you wonder, if we could have added Espinoza to our top offer for Sale and got the deal done.
  14. You can be certain nobody would try to block the trade and get stuck with their contracts.
  15. Now, I'm hearing Matt Duffy, Michael Santos and maybe Lucious Fox. Fox was supposedly their 2nd best prospect, but their list was not highly rated. Maybe TB would not trade with us, but I'm thinking we could have offered more for Moore.
  16. I heard it was just 1Bman Chris Shaw, but now I'm hearing Matt Duffy and a low prospect.
  17. Panda for Shields might have been interesting.
  18. I'd like to know our final offer for Sale/Quintana and what the CWS wanted. My guess is, I'd be happy we said no. I don't think Santana would have helped, but Matt Moore might have been the steal of the day.
  19. Steve Pearce traded to_____?
  20. Giants get Matt Moore! I wanted him.
  21. We did trade for Pomeranz, Zeigler & Hill earlier.
  22. Deals might be done, but not announced as of this minute. They have to go through MLB HGs. There's also waiver deals that can continue until AUG 31st.
  23. Ivan Nova to the Pirates
  24. Rangers gave up everyone but Joey Gallo
