  1. Only 4 of our remaining 35 games are against a legitimate contender- our last 4 games vs HOU. 19 Home 16 Away We're only 4 games away from the best record on the AL and two games ahead of last year's pace.
  2. All I care about is Smith vs Miley. I'll still take Smith.
  3. After 127 games... 73-54 2016: 71-56
  4. Remaining Games Left 9 TOR (3H/6A) 6 BAL (3H/3A) 6 TBR (3H/3A) 4 HOU 3 OAK 3@ CIN 19 Home 16 Away (After SEP 3rd, it will be 16 H vs 9A) Basically, we are done facing any legitimate contenders until the 4 game home series to end the season vs HOU. That series might mean nothing to HOU, so they may rest many of their starters. It also means we got to the second best record in the AL (now just 4 games behind the Astros) by already playing the toughest portion of our schedule.
  5. According to fangraphs, our pen ranks... T6th WAR at 5.2 5th xFIP at 3.87 T1st ERA- at 69 4th WHIP at 1.19 (0.02 from 2nd place) 5th K/BB at 3.03 This is simply amazing, considering C Smith, Thornburg and R Ross have been out all year. Those three were essentially considered our 2,3 and maybe 5th best RP'ers on paper.
  6. I didn't agree he would be back or that I wanted him back. I agreed with "I would not be surprised [if they were both back]."
  7. Agreed. These two are obvious favorites of JF and DD.
  8. Well said. It does seem to me that with all the modern day pitcher pampering going on, there seems to be more injuries not less. 4 day rotation to 5. Extra days given when possible. Pitch limits. Longer all star break. Less double headers. Easier and more comfortable travel and sleeping arrangements. Just to name a few.
  9. I get your point, but I found this on the 3rd article on a google search of "very articulate baseball player"... Marvin Miller http://www.gadsdentimes.com/sports/20121127/former-baseball-union-boss-miller-dies
  10. 30 HRs in a few short months is impressive. I understand the argument that he deserves a shot, but you're right. I've never had any confidence that he'd make it in the bigs, and I still don't. I hope he proves me wrong. (It wouldn't be the first time!)
  11. He throws 250 innings every year... ...the problem is, it's only in 150 innings. (LOL)
  12. Very interesting. It appears we (our offense) don't suck as much as some think. It's just that others got better.
  13. Agreed. I wasn't sure if you thought I was one of the "bunch of pessimists".
  14. HRam is 4 for 7 vs Bauer with 2 DBLs and an OPS above 1.400. Tiny sample size, yes, but there is no indication he does not hit this "type of pitcher" well.
  15. I just said it is doubtful he reaches 100% and that 90% could make him the 2nd best RP'er on the staff. Maybe you weren't talking to me, but I thought I was being optimistic.
  16. It's hard to call it "hate" when you're winning like this, but disliking JF is not something that happened overnight.
  17. It's doubtful, but a 90% C Smith might be our 2nd or 3rd best RP'er. 4th best is certainly an attainable goal.
  18. It is possible for really good teams to play very well for months on end.
  19. True, and October would be like Mid May.
  20. When you look at the names in the pen, the DL ist of relievers, the tough division we play in and the park we play in, the pen results are phenomenal, so far this year. As much as I dislike JF, he's done a fantastic job with our pitching staff.
  21. For what it's woth, Davis has been hot since the all star break. .848 OPS is last 82 PAs (small sample, for sure)
  22. He'd have to learb quickly, if we are talking about this season.
  23. I struggle with Moreland over HRam or Nunez... even vs a RHP. No way Moreland starts vs a lefty.
  24. But with HRam's 1B duties limited and Moreland banged up and horrible vs LHPs, Holt's ability to play 1B (as well as any OF position) gives him the edge over Lin or Marrero.
  25. One note on Holt: although he bats lefty, his career splits are nearly equal, and he actually hits lefties slightly better .705 to .689. This year it is even more .627 v L to .488 v R. This year, Hanley is within .001 of .770 vs lefties and righties. Resting HRam might not be a bad idea, but not because of L-R splits. (I'd also consider using Young over Holt, even vs RHPs.)
