  1. Not about feeling validated, but I love to have a debate about a player's value or lack there of. There's a difference, and I'm surprised you don't know that. Or, are you jusy yanking my chain?
  2. I could give a rats ass about being "validated." I'm going to continue calling out dickheadedness, when directed towards me or others.
  3. I've always felt Bogey is a big overall plus. I'd love for him to be a better defender, and I hoped he'd at least get better to the point where he'd be average or better, but I haven't seen it. Others do: that's fine. He makes the plays he gets to, and to me, some times that can be deceiving. Just curious, who do you think I'm a "tard" on? Moreland? Holt?
  4. Whoop-dee-freakin'-doo. My perception is that he was being a big dick. So, he has at least one malicious bone in his body. Defend him all you want, Maybe it's him that needs validation. I could give a rats ass about it.
  5. Yes, I agree. Maybe our 3B coach did not realize how much he's slowed.
  6. Holt has always been a pretty heads-up base runner, but I'm not sure he was ever fast. That being said, he does look slower.
  7. I know I get repetitive and give the same response to differing posters. Maybe that's enough to drive someone batty. I know I've harped on Bogey's D for years, and I know I have a predisposition for great defensive short stop play, but I'm not the only one who does not think Bogey has improved his defense over the 4-5 years he's been in MLB. Many who do not use advanced metrics feel the same way. Plus, nobody should have to feel ashamed for expressing a valid opinion or for using data to support an unpopular opinion.
  8. I've never even meant to imply my opinion is better than anyone elses. I know data can be pulled out of anyone's asses to make opposite opinions seem justified by the numbers. I realize UZR/150 and DRS do not prove I'm right, but there's nothing wrong with offering supporting evidence beyond just personal observation. And by the way, my opinion on Bogey's defense not improving over the years was not formulated by data. It was formulated by me watching just about every pitch of every Sox game since I can hardly remember. I then went to look at the numbers to see if my opinion was justified or supported by other observers, like those who work in the UZR business. If some poster takes my rebuttle personally and then tries to project false motivations on me, then I'm going to call it out for what it is..... BS!
  9. Many of my posts are in agreement or to add to someone's point. I often use data to support my position, and maybe that comes off as trying to negate someone else's opinion. It's not intended. I don't "live to negate." For anyone to assume they know what motivates a post or a poster has and then to put it in words is asking for a harsh response. Seeking validation is not even close to why I post. If I did, I would not bring up controversial positions. I'd be all rose-colored glasses. My number one motivation for coming to the old BDC and now here, is that I no longer live in New England, so I have nobody nearby to discuss the great pastime and my beloved Red Sox. I moved to Mexico City in 2004 and started posting shortly afterwards. Maybe Spud and others can hope I move back to Maine, and you'll be rid of me once and for all.
  10. WTF! I post a lot. Shoot me if you want. Stop pretending you know my motives for posting. Bogey has not improved on defense, IMO. You can believe what you want and continue being an a-hole all you want. I'm going to keep giving my opinion despite your dickheadedness.
  11. Justin Smoak with a grand slam off David Robertson! TOR 7 Yanks 4 in the bottom of the 8th.
  12. I'm okay with using the bench a lot, and I like our bench, but I did not expect our starters would need rest so soon in the season. We have 3 subs starting in game 4 (Holt, Moreland and Swihart). 2 starts for Holt in the first 4 games is too much for me to stomach. Moreland batting 5h again, just like last year. I'm not bashing Cora, but this is bugging me. (Holt + Moreland are 0-12 so far. I'm so glad we are keeping them fresh.)
  13. I agree. I doubt he'd even take a chance on losing money, even if his agent told him he'd "probably make the same or more elsewhere." If he truly does hate Boston so much that he'd take $500K less a year to go elsewhere, he probably still wouldn't risk it.
  14. I guess it's only okay for certain posters to "have his say," then the discussion is supposed to end. (BTW, it's usually the guy with the smallest penis who has to have the last word and not the guy with the bigger one.)
  15. There is a slight chance Price leaves believing he'll make the same or more money elsewhere, and since he theoretically hates Boston, might risk making slightly less, if his agents projections end up falling short. What happens, if he ends up getting much less than he and his agent thought, like many free agents did this year? Could that be a case where, we made out by seeing him opt out? Is it that nonsensical to think that could happen? It happened to several free agents this year, who turned down initial offers thinking they'd make more later.
  16. We're going to be a lesser team when we start deciding who to keep and who we don't replace "in kind". I agree with your argument that if Price has a great year and is worth his market value, we don't gain anything by seeing him walk, but he is getting older, and the chances he does not live up to his value will be higher after this year than it was when we signed him. Even if Price wins the Cy Young this year, I'm not sure it would hurt us, if he left. $31M would help us keep other players we are likely to lose, like keeping Pom & Kimbrel and maybe have enough to sign a lesser starter. Yes, we lose strength by replacing Price with a lesser pitcher, but maybe we get to keep Kimbrel instead of praying Smith or Thornburg step it up.
  17. If Price sticks around, keeping Sale, Betts and XB would cost us over half of the luxury budget (maybe $115M for just 4 guys). It's hard to imagine that happening.
  18. Sorry for not knowing your hot button issue. Yes, this is baseball. We come here to express our opinions. Needle dicks have rights, too.
  19. I disagree. He got better a little bit, then he regressed over the lasr 2+ years. 2013-2015 +0.1 UZR/150 (thanks to 2015's +1.0) - 8 DRS in 2293 innings 2016-2018 -2.3 UZR/150 -20 DRS in 2706 innings
  20. I wish he was better defensively, but he's certainly a big plus at ss
  21. Bogey's making a case for sticking around. 5 doubles and an HR in 2.5 games!
  22. Make a real prediction and choose which one you think he'll be. What ifs are not predictions.
  23. But, maybe we don't have to replace him "in kind". I agree, he's not opting out unless he can make more. Even if he has a great 2018, the value just might not be there, considering his age.
  24. They may offer Kimbrel and Pom QOs and let the chips fall where they may. If they say no, we get a draft pick and some money to spend- granted not nearly enough money freed up to replace either one, but something maybe cheaper than they will cost us anyways. It's one way to try and build up the farm again. If I had to guess, I think we lose Kimbrel and Bogey, but maybe we trade JBJ and try to keep one of 'em.
