  1. Where's the trade JMart thread?
  2. Extend him now, before his price tag goes up!
  3. Not me. Give it a month or two more, at least.
  4. I'd actually prefer Moreland to play 1B vs at least half the RH'd starters. As much as I hated the signing, I thought the purpose was to keep HRam from vesting. If that's not the reason, then the signing moves from the horrible to disgusting category.
  5. It's like we're now paying HRam $28.5M for 2 years, if we never play Moreland and let HRam vest.
  6. SSS. Do you really think he's going to end up at 6.4 wins? No. But now that he will be playing more 1B than DH, his WAR should be better than last year. I also think he's going to have a decent to good year. I do not want him to vest. I still think he needs to earn a FT job this year and should not be handed 500+ PAs. So far, he's doing well and has not done anything to show he should not be playing all games vs LHPs and some vs RHPs.
  7. You said it much better than I could have. NIce job! Here's a list of players we obtained through supplemental and international picks- something that will not be so easy to do going forward, as you pointed out. International: Bogaerts IGGY & Montas (Peavy > Hembree) Lin Margot (Kimbrel) Moncada & Basabe (Sale) Espinoza (Pomeranz) Devers Velazquez plus others Ellsbury (who later got us Kopech as a comp pick) Hansen Buchholz Fife Brentz Ranaudo (R Ross) Workman Barnes Swihart JBJ Johnson Light (Abad) Kopech -- our last comp pick (2014)
  8. 1) It's a lot harder to rebuild the farm with the new rules, especially when you are winning 4-6 years in a row. 2) 5 years? If we keep every essential player who will become a FA in the next 5 years, our budget will be over $300M. 3) The window looks to be 2-3 more years, unless something happens that is not, at this time, probable.
  9. He's at +0.2 so far this year- on pace for +6.4.
  10. I seriously doubt HRam will be an essential player in a championship run, but if he's needed that much, I'd change my mind. Besides, playoff PAs don't count on the vesting option.
  11. I do think Swihart would improve in that area, if he was given a lot of time- maybe just with one particular starter, but the learning curve may not be short, and we have a season to play and take every game seriously. I have to think the reason Swihart does not catch much is because of how he handles the staff and defends the plate. Nobody doubts he's a better hitter than Leon. As it is now, Vaz will likely catch 4 out of 5 starters, so even if Swi beats out Leon, he'll likely only catch 20% of the games. Is that enough for him to improve measurably?
  12. It will be at year two rates and penalties. The over $40M penalty kicks in, and the following season will be really tough to keep whoi we want (Sale/Bogey...)
  13. I actually like inter league play, but that aspect of it stinks. I'd like to see something like this: Play every other league team every year 3 times (3 x 15=45) Play every other division team 6 times (6 x 10= 60) Play your own division 14-15 times (14 x 3= 42 and 15 x 1= 15 for 57 total) You could play other divisions 5 games (5 x 10-50) and your own division 16-17 games. Totally balanced might look like this: 2 games vs every other league team (2 x 15=30) 6 games vs every other in-league division (6 x 10=60) 18 games vs own division (18 x 4=72)
  14. ...and he will prevent us from keeping Pom and/or Kimbrel.
  15. Relief pitchers often come in during high leverage situations. I'd be nervous with Chris Sale on the mound in the 8th with the tieing run on 2nd base.
  16. Very well said. I couldn't agree more.
  17. Might have been a good time to rest Betts.
  18. I really like him, but I have my doubts about his staff handling abilities. I think Sox management feels the same.
  19. So, if they trade Leon, and Swihart hits .800, but our starter ERA jumps 1.00 higher when he catches, you'll be okay with losing Leon? (Just a hypothetical scenario.)
  20. It's nice having a strong bench, but if Swihart is worth more to another team (GM), then maybe it's what's best. We can afford to wait until Pedey returns to decide. Maybe by then someone else will be hurt or Swihart will have muscled his way to a more defining role.
  21. Swihart looks like a major leaguer. We just need to quick screwing with him. And, bench whom to get Swihart playing time? Everyone he can replace, you just praised.
  22. Maybe, but not after just 4 games. He was rested before the season started. I'm not upset with Cora, but I think the choice was wrong.
  23. Just do what he did last year is fine by me.
