  1. AGon released by the Mets. Man, he fell fast and hard- mostly injury-related. Another example of a long term, big dollar contract not working out. Thanks, Ben for dumping him and CC just in time. Of course, he wasn't a complete bust. He had several good seasons after the signing, but it sure ended badly.
  2. I'd rather see Holt out there than Swihart, but with Pedey out and Nunez looking like a shell of his 2017 self, and Devers struggling, we may need him more in the infield than the OF. Hopefully, by the trade deadline, we'll find we don't need Lowrie or a better 4th OF'er.
  3. Last year, our line-up was pretty balanced 1 to 9, at least compared to most teams. Our issue was that we didn't have anybody having great seasons. This year, we added JD, and several other hitters are having great seasons. At the same time, those who "balanced" our line-up last season are mostly off to poor starts, although a few have good numbers over the last 4-5 weeks. When Betts returns, our line-up will be lengthened a little bit, but we will still need at least two of these guys returning to their career norm, their recent 2-3 year norm or their 2017 numbers, in the case of Vaz: 2B: Nunez, Pedey or Holt (Is Hernandez due back this year?) 3B: Devers, Nunez or Holt CF/OF: JBJ, Nunez or Holt (Swihart) C: Vaz, Leon or Swihart There are 9 names here, and we need 2-3 to step up. Those might seem like long odds when you look at each player one-by-one, but when you put a lot of small odds together, they actually indicate someone will come through. Holt has already done okay. Vaz, Leon and JBJ have shown faint signs of coming to life. Our biggest need seems to come from Pedey or Nunez.
  4. Far as Craig he was already damaged goods before the trade. in 14 Cherington wasn't running the Redsox he was running a Circus! So is Kershaw. If you were our GM, it would be a 3 ring circus on Mars.
  5. Well, 4 of or 7 hitters with a .265 BA in the last 28 days are named Leon, Nunez, Vazquez and holt
  6. Look how many WS ans Sper Bowl MVPs go on to sign big contracts and then never reach expectations. Past performance is a few scattered games in October is NOT a predictor of what is to come. Hey, Mad Stork, were you thrilled when we traded for Allen Craig? Mr. Playoffs up to that point?
  7. Agreed, and I was highly frustrated for over 4 decades of being a Sox fan. Some of the bigger naysayers on this site seem to be younger.
  8. It is a concern, but some of our bottom guys haven't all done all that bad over the last 4 weeks. Losing Betts hurts. Last 4 weeks OPS .875 Leon .780 Holt .762 JBJ .736 Vaz Now, Devers at .602, Nunez at .668 and Swihart at .382 has hurt us badly.
  9. I hope we did something right in this draft. We'll need a couple miracles to keep us highly competitive once we hit 2020 or 2021.
  10. Then stop thinking losing one measly series is the end of the world.
  11. We have no prospects or players KC or Cincy wants, at least ones we can trade without opening a new hole. Groome is hurt, Chavis is a PED user. JBJ, Kelly and Beeks are not what rebuilding teams are looking for. This is it. We have a ton of guys on the DL. Our best hope is for top health come October. That's more realistic than dreaming of impossible trades. If it's not enough for you, then just give up. I'm just tired of hearing all this crap. I'm sorry for questioning your fandom. This is a very good team. It's the best team, we've had on paper, since maybe 2007. Yes, better than 2013. We just need Betts back and some players adjusting. There's over 90 games for that to happen.
  12. I could see JBJ having a hot month, finishing over .750, and then be traded this winter. We could sign a great glove CF'er for cheap and just take the hit on offense, use the saved money elsewhere and hopefully whatever we get for JBJ helps us somewhere else. I love JBJ, but I do think his defense can be replaced at close to the same level for a lot cheaper. His offense does not need to be replaced.
  13. Yes, and if Moreland ends up at .820, it would mean he would have to hit about ,720 the rest of the way. He may not do that. He could hit .780 the rest of the way and we see JBJ have a hot streak and Vaz and/or Nunez hit like 2017, or Leon like 2016, or Holt like 2018. I'm done with Swihart.
  14. The only option for Devers is for him to adjust more quickly than you're willing to allow, or we go with Nunez or Holt (once Betts or Pedey return to allow it). We are not trading for Moose or Scoot. It's not happening. Not even close.
  15. You think championship teams never lose to horrible teams, even when 100% healthy? Do you pay attention at all? Baseball has a 162 game season for a reason.
  16. Right now everyone is extremely frustrated with the way we are playing g against s*** teams. We've killed s***** teams all year, until our MVP candidate gets hurt, and even then, we've won more than we lost. I'm not frustrated at all at the team. I'm frustrated at too many fair weather fans and all the Sox bashing and knee-jerk reactions. If Natick had his way, we'd have traded every Sox player except maybe 5 or 6 guys. We'd have no farm at all, since all our prospects would be traded. maybe it is some sort of warped fandom I'm unaware of, but to me, he's no fan. Strangely, one guy he never bashes is Swihart, until today, yet he blamed the team that's given him oddles of chances and even cut HRam so he'd have a roster slot.
  17. He's hated on about 22 of our 25 players, our manager, our GM and probably more I missed. I can see being a fan of a team on pace for 100 losses, maybe feeling this way, but Natick hates all but maybe 3 Sox players, and if they slump, he'll hate them in a week.
  18. We upgrade when Betts returns. The guy's having an MVP season. We upgrade when a few players return to their norms, and I'm not talking silly Swihart swoon songs. We upgrade when Smith and Thornburg return. Maybe we upgrade when Pedey and Pom return. The Yanks will hit a rough paatch at some points, and it will look like they have some holes, too. It's a long season full of down points like this. Real fans know that. You are not a Sox fan, no matter how much you convince yourself you are. You hate everyone.
  19. My definition of a fan does not include hating 22 out of the 25 players on a team with the second best record in MLB.
  20. I'm on a "high horse?" You've been pontificating ad nauseum for months. We added JD this winter and several players have or will be returning from injury. This is not the same team as 2016 & 2017. We have holes and so do the Yanks.
  21. You've hated on just about every Sox player on the roster. You are no Sox fan.
  22. We can't afford to add more than $2M to our budget, and our farm is toast. This is it. Get used to it. We're going all the way, with or without so-called fans like you.
  23. What a joke! You hate all but 2-3 Sox players.
  24. Swihart was given way more chances than he ever deserved. He ruined his own chances over and over. Why not just go to the yankee forum, since you love them more?
  25. the answer to what question? Who do we trade to get him? Beni? Beeks, Groome, Mata and Shawaryn?
