  1. Clemson's schedule is a joke. They almost lost to Syracuse.
  2. I watched that view over and over. It looks like a catch to me. It looks like his glove hits the wall as the ball falls into his glove's web. I can see how someone might view it differently. The other angles look even more like a catch than this one. I'll change my 99.9% to 75% catch. I can see how the replay was not "conclusive" to overturn the call on the field.
  3. To me, it looks like a 99.9% catch. I'm trying to assume it hits the wall, but I just don't see it in any of the 3 angles shown here... http://www.espn.com/video/clip?id=25000739
  4. cp claims it was off the wall.
  5. IMO- a clear catch.
  6. IMO, it look like a clear catch. The ball goes right into the web of his glove as his glove clangs against the metal wall.
  7. Since the pre A ball. His defense sucks, but that doesn't mean I don't like him.
  8. Circus of clowns on defense, yes. That was clearly my point. I'm a huge Devers fan, but his 3B defense is awful. I warned about this exact situation before the year started (see my sig Moose not Moreland rants). He can improve. He's got decent range. Foot work and arm accuracy can be worked on. If he doesn't get any better on defense, I'm not sure we can risk another playoff cycle with that defense. I'm real close to saying he should be moved to 1B next year. Trade the duplicate lefty bat value Moreland and save some money at the same time. Find a real 3Bman who can field and hit. The rest of the resources goes to pen upgrades. We'll look at 2B after the season starts. Let Devers hit 45 HRs at 1B/DH next year. I don't blame DD for not doing better at 3B. He signed JD and brought the team right up to the $40M penalty line without going over. There was nothing left to spend on 3B. He spent $11M on Nunez and chose Moreland over Moose.
  9. Teams that live and die by the home run, often die early. No data to back this up, but as the pitching improves for the playoffs, those scrappy base hit guys seem to do better than the big beefy HR guys.
  10. I was talking strickly defense. I wanted Devers at 3B for his bat, and I don't think the hobbled Nunez is much better on defense at this point in time. I'd probably start Holt at 2B full time, and use Kinsler for defense late in the game (maybe moving Holt to 3B, if we have a lead).
  11. I guess I combined the two.
  12. By "always" I meant since he was ready to be called up. He really struggled for a couple years, but I stuck with him. My first favorite player was Tommy Harper, first when I was a Brewer fan and then when they traded him to Boston at the time my family moved to Portland, ME ads a Red Sox. After that, I was a huge Bill Lee, Rick Burleson and Luis Tiant fan. Ellis Burks, Tom Gordon, VTek & Pedro. Manny & Mueller. Uehara.
  13. What a great game to watch last night. Getting out to a quick lead helped lessen the stress a little. Eovaldi looked awesome. If we had Bregman at 3B, instead of our circus of clowns, our playoff starter ERA would be about halved. JBJ has chosen the exact right time to have his customary red hot streak. Pearce has been a real gem. Let's hope Porcello continues his good pitching and we take the first 2 in Houston. GO SOX!
  14. I'm overwhelmed with gratitude!
  15. He ended up starting in the playoffs, even with worse numbers than others. Nobody wanted him back as our 3rd or 4th starter, but some wanted him as our 5/6.
  16. Walking Bregman may be the right strategy. Others, not so much.
  17. Very true, but many were saying they love JBJ even if he hits .600. There weren't many who had faith in his offense. I went overboard with my hopes that he might end up near .800, but I felt he could stay consistent and have that 7-10 day red hot streak he was known for in the 3 straight seasons before 2017. Maybe he's having that streak now, when it counts! GO JBJ!
  18. Concerns about him being inconsistent are well founded. I'd love to have him back, but he will likely be too costly. I know it's not the same thing, but I remember people saying they wanted Fister back, too.
  19. I thought he caught it and his glove hit the wall. It was hard to tell.
  20. The pen did pretty good for 4 games vs the Yanks, so it's 7 now.
  21. Schedules are made years ahead of time. Both Navy & WF have histories of being respectable opponents. Yes, Ball State & Vandy are patsies.
  22. I'm highly skeptical. It's like signing the Super Bowl MVP and then watching him play like he did over the whole of his career....or worse.
  23. Is WOPR going to be part of your resume?
  24. Even more reason to hope the Yanks sign the guy.
  25. There's not much we can do about 3B defense right now. Keep our fingers crossed is about all we can do.
