  1. Papi hit over .300 seven times and had over 40 HRs five times. He did both in his final year. He also hit over.... .282 ten times 30 HRs ten times
  2. The surgery will be for the Umbilical hernia not the diverticulitis.
  3. Just talked to the surgeon. I will need surgery once the acute diverticulitis is gone. It's probably for the best to have the surgery this year, as this hospital stay made me reach my deductible. My $6K max out of pocket is going to be met, for sure. Thanks again to everyone for all the kind thoughts.
  4. I'm not so sure he makes more money after having a big 2019 season. Look what Papi made, and he was one of the top 2 DHs of alltime. (Papi could play 1B as well as JD plays the OF, and he did play 1B in NL parks.)
  5. If 1B is going to be tried, you don't wait until spring training. You talk to him and see if he's okay with the idea and ask him to start working out taking grounders with a FBman mitt and scooping low throws before ST'ing begins.
  6. It's not so much about JD's abilities (or lack of them) in the OF, it's more about benching JBJ (or Beni) instead of Moreland.
  7. I think we stay highly competitive until after 2020, but if we are struggling in 2020, we may have a fire sale in July. My hope is we can regain competitiveness after just 1-2 years of being not so great.
  8. There's zero percent chance we keep Pearce, if we try to get way below the $40M max line. If we try to stay near, we may be able to keep Eovaldi, Kelly and Pearce, but the length of the deals is critical when figuring out how to keep our stars in 2-3 years.
  9. Maybe Chavis can replace Pearce/Swihart, but it would be nice to bring Pearce back on a 1 year deal (2 tops). I agree on our top needs with RP'er(s) slightly ahead of a 3/4(/5) starter.
  10. I have been known to mutter those exact words! (Especially pre -2004)
  11. I realize building comfort levels with pitchers, particularly starters, takes time, and Swihart has not been given all that much of a chance with the current staff, but it's hard to move away from a formula that has worked so well. Why mess with this? 101-44 in games started by Vaz or Leon (.697). 7-10 in other games (.412).
  12. Agreed.
  13. Thanks for all the kind words. I'm still waiting for the surgeon consult. Maybe, I literally busted a gut screaming when the Sox won it all!
  14. Three steps MLB can take for better pace of play 1) Enforce existing rules for how long a pitcher can hold a ball in between pitches. YES! 2) No more expanded rosters in September. OK, but expand the roster to 26. 3) Keep the shift!! Yes, more outs! Also,DH for all.
  15. Does anyone else get to that ball in Houston?
  16. I haven't posted for a while as I am in the hospital. I thought I was going to die. I had extreme stomach pains that turned out to be a large hernia. They also discovered I had diverticulitis (no jokes please). I'm better now with the help of some morphine and antibiotics. Hopefully, I will be released tomorrow and the consult with the hernia surgeon will say I do not need surgery.
  17. Okay, I guess I just viewed DD as the real GM.
  18. Had the Sox just gone 10-9 in Swihart's starts, we might have had 112 wins!
  19. This 2018 Sox team was tremendous. Going 6-13 in Swihart's catching games is very telling, despite the small sample size.
  20. ...or undervalue the players I offered.
  21. I'm not down-playing Leon. I have been one of his strongest defenders. His intangibles and unmeasurables are off-the-charts. I'd like to keep Vaz & Leon, but I don't think Swihart is anything more than a throw-in to team looking to try anything at catcher and not looking for a 2019 ring... like Seattle.
  22. Wasn't that just for a few months?
  23. LOL! Yes he made 27 put outs all of those games!
  24. Mike Port in 2002, but I guess he was "interim".
  25. Johnson, Swihart, Hembree, Ockimey and Houck? Then, sign Ottavino and Kelly.
