  1. I'd rather Wright starts, but I'm sure he'll get some chances.
  2. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic. I think his game back after his first DL was his best all year. That gives me reason to hope it never was anything major. I think he would have 180+ IP right now, if we were fighting for a playoff slot. I don't fault anyone for being concerned or very concerned. I do think 92 pitches was nice to see. He now has about 10 days off. I'm sure he'll pitch a simulated game or something in between. I will end with this, if he was at 100%, wouldn't this be a nice smoke screen to throw out there?
  3. That was a bias against pitchers. Pedro was left off someone's ballot all together, as I recall.
  4. The "smoke screen" I'm talking about is the quotes made after the game. I think it's all pretend. Sale will be lights out in game 1 of the playoffs.
  5. I doubt Johnson makes it. Velazquez is bubble at best.
  6. Yes, I said "crucial error," and certainly Nunez or Holt have a significantly less chance of that, but even then... Devers 23 errors in 298 chances Nunez 7 errors in 101 chances The difference is not so great, when you even up the innings. The chances Devers make one more error than Nunez over 5 games is probably less than 50-50.
  7. It's all a smoke screen. Sale is going to blow the Yankees away in game 1. Book it.
  8. I agree that nobody knows, but the vast majority of players reaching their first FA year go for the largest and longest deal they can find, unless they are coming off an injury or poor year, and they want a 1 year deal to reset their value.
  9. The game after his first DL stint was perhaps his best this year. I am confident he can be at 100% by game 1.
  10. Yes. It's Kimbrel's "philosophy" that matters most, and he's going to want large & long.
  11. Yes, really. Okay, maybe Nunez does not make a play Devers would have made, but it's not called an "error". Range factor 2.3 Devers 0.7 Nunez -0.1 Holt
  12. The length of time on the DL might have been highly influenced by our clinching on August 5th.
  13. I was happy to see Sale get 92 pitches, and I'm not worried about him all that much. I think Price is going to be fine, especially pitching at home vs the Yanks or anywhere vs the A's. Barnes is rusty. I'm hopeful he recovers fully from his injury. Kimbrel is, sadly, not the 2017 Kimbrel. He's still damn good- top 3 in my book.
  14. Yes, but Iggy was in there for his defense. There's only a slightly better chance Nunez doesn't make a crucial error over Devers' chances.
  15. There-in lies the rub. Although Nunez has looked surprisingly okay at 3B this year, he's not remarkably better on defense than Devers or Holt at 3B. Devers might make a few more plays than both of them, but he also makes unforced errors at a shocking rate, and those seem to be seared in everyone's minds- fair or unfairly. JD should DH, so it comes down to Devers vs Nunez or Holt at 3B. I suppose we could take Lin over Vazquez or Swihart, but Vaz has been the personal caddy to a couple starters all year, and Swihart gives us the ability to PH for our weak-hitting catcher 1-2 times each game. (We should be fooled by Lin's recent hitting, either.)
  16. WAR certainly isn't perfect but it may be better than having the writers and their subjectivity do it. At least we'd have criteria for the vote. That criteria may be 'fuzzy math' but at least it's something we could hang our hats on. Looks like you are beginning to see our point. The subjectivity of voters is well known, and examples of egregious mistakes are plentiful. It's the subjectivity of the common fan, who normally watches just one team almost exclusively, that metrics like WAR and UZR/150 try and address. There may very well be some "fuzzy math" or some sort of subjectivity built into their formulas and methodologies, but the intent is to be objective, and the results are probably better than any regular fan can come up with. (Granted: no fan on this site is "regular.")
  17. Here's one I found...
  18. Yankee pen beginning to look like ours.
  19. Anyone still want Devers benched or off the playoff roster?
  20. Yes, some but not all. We will pick and choose, despite the fact that Henry does not have to.
  21. You never wanted Sale in the first place.
  22. Have we finally found a way to get great pitching prospects? ...the Mets will lose their international scouting director Chris Becerra, who is expected to take a job with the Red Sox.
  23. Could it be neck spasms from watching all our hits?
