  1. Part of his job is to advise. He may mention state tax rates, advertisement opportunities, quality of life and other factors that go into choosing where to play. Now, if he's pushing a player towards a team just for his own personal gain, such as kick backs, owed "favors" or the like, then yes, he is not looking out for the best interests of his clients, but much of this is gray area. He may think money is the "best interest", and if he's pushing his client to take a $210M deal over a $200M deal just so he makes more commissions, but fails to tell his client he'll be paying $20M more in taxes, then he's doing wrong. I'm not sure I ever heard of examples like that.
  2. I doubt we sign a lefty SP'er. I think it will be Eovaldi or maybe a fall back like Anibal Sanchez/Matt Harvey type. I think we might sign Familia, Ottavino or Herrera. I think Britton will be too costly, and for some reason, I just think he will never be the same again.
  3. I can't remember specifics, but I seem to recall an incident(s) where one of his players felt he was used when Boras got a team to sign another one his players instead of the one who felt he was used.
  4. The conflict may arise when representing multiple players and playing one off another.
  5. It's the longevity argument he failed. He was very great for a short time. Close call, to me.
  6. I get it. My point was more about the years from 29-34 or 35.
  7. I mentioned the flaw in the data, and yes, it does go beyond what I brought up, but the numbers from 29 to 33 or 34 are pretty accurate and not much different from each other in sample size PAs and OPS results.
  8. Yes, since 2017 had no PAs for 39 year olds.
  9. Garrett Richards to sign with the Padres for $15.5M/2 with $2.5M in incentives. I thought he might be a fall back for us, as he is a RH'er.
  10. Maybe not, but for the PED guys, I'm okay with letting them in, just make em sweat it out a while. I wouldn't be upset, if Bonds, Clemens and Manny make it this year. They deserve to be in, IMO, but I wouldn't be upset if the didn't make it either (ever).
  11. 1) Pitchers are different. 2) The jury is still out on Price aging well. (His first 3 years were not really in question at the time of the signing>) 3) See below. Mean OPS from 2008 to 2018 by age: 29 .746 30 .750 31 .734 32 .721 33 .714 34 .730 35 .715 36 .680 37 .708 38 .721 39 .705 Granted, older players that suck do not play as much as sucky younger players, so the sample sizes are skewed a bit, but the decline is not as steep as some think it is for everyday players. If Betts declines by 40-70 points, he'd still be great. If he declines by 70-100, he'd still be pretty good.
  12. How valuable is he as an OF'er as he ages? That might be the big factor. If he's viewed as pretty much a DH-only kind of player, then he may not get much more after an opt out.
  13. If I had to guess, I'd say we keep Porcello & Betts and let Bogey and Sale go. JBJ is borderline. JD is a tough call. I'm still not sure a DH gets much more than his current salary, so maybe we can keep him at close to the same cost. $25M or so could mean JD or Bogey- not both.
  14. Like Marco Hernandez? (LOL)
  15. Defensively, it's a no brainer. Offensively, the answer is the opposite and a no brainer as well. It might be nice seeing Iggy at SS, Bogey at 3B and Devers at 1B, but Bogey wants to play SS and would go elsewhere before agreeing to move to 3B and play with the Sox.
  16. If Iggy is on my team, I play him at SS, even if it means pissing off Bogey by moving him to 3B. Maybe Iggy signs a 1 year deal, and we get him next winter.
  17. That was brutal! I kinda knew he'd end up with us, as nobody else was bidding nearly as high, but the wait was painful.
  18. Who will be the first big shoe to drop. I get the feeling it will be the Phillies signing someone like Machado, Harper or Corbin.
  19. Danny Darwin led the majors in WHIP in '93 with the Sox.
  20. Nomo's 99 in 2001. (He also had a 95 game with his no hitter) Pedro hit 98 twice in 2000. Lester hit 94 in '08 Lester hit 93 in '14, and so did Buch. Buch hit 93 in 2007 as well. Wright led all Sox with an 89 in 2010. Rich Hill in 2015 with a 92. Sale led the team in '71 with a 90 game, and Porcello in 2018 with a 90 game vs the Yanks in early August.
  21. We are facing some serious financial issues, if we try to reset in a year or two. Bringing in a big contract will just mean we lose another star.
