  1. You talked about how our starters didn't go deep, last year. Just about every stat and metric has us 8th to 12th out of 30 teams in 2018. Not even close to below average.
  2. Maybe even a min ML contract with incentives.
  3. You agree the pen was "below average" last year? Hmmm....
  4. There wasn't much else to talk about.
  5. ERA is not a very good stat to use for RP'ers. They often come in with 1 or 2 outs already. Here are some other Sox pen AL rankings: 2nd SIERA (3.54) 4th in xFIP (4.08) 4th WHIP (1.25) 2nd K/BB (3.06)
  6. Well, if JBJ leaves after 2020 (of if traded earlier), we may play JD in the OF and Chavis at DH or 1B.
  7. If he does, maybe he'd get us something in trade.
  8. He'll never be a plus on defense at 2B. I'd like him to DH after JD leaves.
  9. I'd rather have Chavis than Vaz at 2B.
  10. Not sure, but I read somewhere that Velazquez will take EO's slot.
  11. Velazquez until Johnson returns.
  12. The game was called after 5. Nice line for Houck! He had an 8.00 ERA in 9 IP before tonight. Some small sample size numbers, so far... 0.54 Mata in 16.2 IP (0.90 WHIP) 1.80 DHernandez in 10 (1.50) 2.00 Crawford in 18 (1.17) 3.74 Shawaryn in 21.2 (1.25) .997 Duran (59 ABs) .985 Fitzgerald (56) .950 Ockimey (46) .907 Chatham (46) .904 MMiller (44)
  13. MLB.com...Red Sox right-hander Nathan Eovaldi will have surgery to address loose bodies in his elbow, a source told MLB.com. The procedure would sideline Eovaldi for 4-6 weeks, according to a report from WEEI's Rob Bradford. The team has not yet commented. Eovaldi had a similar operation in 2018 and missed two months while a member of the Rays. Eovaldi, who re-signed with the Red Sox for four years this winter, has had Tommy John surgery on his right elbow twice.
  14. Was it Wade Boggs who once went a full season without ever fouling out?
  15. 1. Beni LF 2. Betts CF 3. JD RF 4. Bogey SS 5. Pearce 1B 6. Chavis 3B 7. Vaz DH 8. Lin 2B 9. Leon C
  16. Interesting line-up. No Devers, JBJ or Moreland. I'm glad it's Detroit. We need Chris Sale to return to... Chris Freakin' Sale!
  17. I doubt notin is advocating trading Devers before finding out if Dalbec is the real deal or not. He just suggested him as a possible call-up and maybe eventual 3Bman. (Maybe Devers will be moved to 1B next year and not traded.)
  18. He's actually 3rd on the 40 man roster seniority list behind Pedey & Vazquez (4th, if you count Wright).
  19. It could be that. I'm just wondering, if something changed between the statement Cora made and the choice to play Chavis at 2B. I'm fine with the choice, even though I am a big defensive-minded fan.
  20. I think we'll try to keep Holt.
  21. Yes. So, what was the disconnect and why did it happen?
  22. I agree, but where was the disconnect on this one? Was Cora expecting someone else not named Chavis being called up?
  23. True, but Cora chooses who to play at 2B: Lin or Chavis. When he said Chacis would not play 2B, was he expecting some other choice being made by DD? Was he expecting Nunez or Holt to be beck by today?
  24. Heck, we played Bogey at 3B smack in the midst of a playoff run after just 10 games at 3B in the minors. It's not panic: it's just what you do when your top 3 guys on the 2B depth chart are on the IL. It was a choice of offense vs defense. Today, Cora chose defense. Maybe his statements were made before he found out one of our 2Bman wouldn't be ready by today.
  25. I hear ya. I'm not ready to totally count him out, but we should not plan on another inning or PA from him.
