  1. He's stinking up AAA, right now, with a .548 OPS.
  2. Just ignore the clown. Our pen was easily ranked 10th to 14th last year in just about every traditional or advanced standard. That's above average, at worst. This year is another story, although they have done better than I expected.
  3. At best, yes now, but this team is much better than they've shown, so far. I'm thinking we end up with 96-100 wins.
  4. He probably jumped 100 slots by just going 2 for 5 tonight.
  5. If you want to believe we will keep playing 9-15 ball the rest of the way, go for it. We will go 9-1 or something close to it at least once this year.
  6. My Pedey idea is a non-starter. He'll refuse that trade. I just brought him up as a contract balancing addition. I'd like to have Kennedy, but not his contract. Nunez, Pearce and some cash wouldn't even get near $16M x 2. While .780 is a pretty good OPS for 2B
  7. We had some epic runs last year. All it takes is one to get us back in it or even ahead of the pack. Houston is 14-9, and the Yanks are 13-10. That, alone, keeps us in the race. Last year we had these stretches of greatness: 17 out of 18 after our opening day loss. 15 out of 20 from mid May to early June. 6 out of 7 at the end of June. 10 in a row and and 13 of 14 to start July. 17 of 20 from mid July to early August. 6 out of 7 in mid September. We could pass the Yanks and Astros with just a couple 6 of 7 runs shortly.
  8. If KC threw in enough money to keep us under the max line, I might agree.
  9. It's not about wanting Pedey. It's about balancing the money, and I think Devers is better than WM.
  10. He's at 0.1 (113th). I guess I missed him. It's early. Small sample sizes. WAR is not very good for RP'ers.
  11. No, but he offsets Kennedy's contract to some extent. He would veto the deal.
  12. Small sample sizes, but... Contract & WAR, so far $39M/3 Britton 0.3 (39th in MLB) $30M/3 Familia $27M/3 Ottavino $25M/2 AMiller $23M/2 Robertson $25M/3 Kelly $18M/2 Herrera 0.3 (24th) $15M/2 Soria 0.2 (62nd) $10M/2 JWilson $8.5M/1 CAllen If no WAR is listed, they are not at 0.0 or better or in the top 250 RP'ers in MLB. The Sox currently have 7 RP'ers at 0.1 or better and Brasier at 0.0.
  13. No way would I trade Devers for WM, let alone add a prospect. Devers & Pedroia for WM & Ian Kennedy... maybe
  14. I'm just a tiny bit concerned on April 24, 2019. If we're still 5-10 back of the WC by the end of May, I'll be somewhat concerned. It's a long season!
  15. Many of the RP'ers discussed as possible signees have sucked so far this year.
  16. I'd be all for moving Bogey to 3B or 2B, but didn't want to open a can of worms until we know Chatham can play at the ML level.
  17. I wanted to save him to PH for JBJ. I like Devers in the clutch (even though clutch does not exist).
  18. I think they felt having Brasier for a full season would make up for Kelly, since he was only good in the first half of 2018 (and the playoffs). Not replacing Kimbrel may haunt DD, but let's see what happens this summer. As long as we make the playoffs, all that matters is what the pen looks like in October.
  19. This year is different. My point was just about last year. Yes, Kimbrel made us a plus pen, but Barnes, Velazquez, Workman, Brasier and Wright gave us over 220 innings of plus relief pitching. While Kelly, Hembree & Johnson gave us over 180 innings of not so great pen work, they weren't horrible enough to bring us below average overall.
  20. Dalbec would not change positions- Devers would, if Dalbec proves he belongs in the bigs.
  21. Barnes had very good numbers. OPS against vs our starters: .697 OPS against vs our relievers: .700 Some individual stats as RP'ers ONLY: ERA Pitcher IP in pen 2.74 Kimbrel 62 3.65 Barnes 62 2.63 Velazquez 55 3.27 Workman 41 1.60 Brasier 34 1.52 Wright 30 3.22 Poyner 22 3.68 Walden 15 3.77 Smith 14 Not horrible: 4.39 Kelly 66 4.20 Hembree 60 4.19Johnson 39
  22. It does seem to match up with our near future holes opening due to free agency: 1B: (Moreland/Pearce) Chavis or Dalbec (or Devers to 1B with Ockimey as a long shot & Casas far away) 2B: (Pedey/Nunez/Holt) Chatham CF: Duran SP: (Porcello) Hernandez/Shawaryn/Houck/Mata) Our best and rising prospects are playing the right positions.
  23. Sorry, I confused you with another poster on starters going deep. Our pen was clearly above average last season. Here are some major standards: Red Sox 2018 Pen Rankings 12th WAR (3.9) 4th ERA- (83 & 2 from 2nd) 11th xFIP (4.05 & just 0.02 from 8th) T11th WHIP (1.29 & just 0.02 from 9th) 8th SIERA (3.70) Nothing here even hints at below average. One could argue they were close to top 3rd tier over middle 3rd.
