  1. No prospect is really "certain", but Moncada was a "blue chipper." Some might say Kopech and Espinosa were or close to be blue chippers. (BTW, Moncada is off to a nice .948 start with 6 HRs in less than 100 ABs.
  2. ...and somehow that makes it a bad thing, because he is "qualified" and among the worst offensive players among those few players that are good enough and healthy enough to play everyday.
  3. I think of the top 15 AL CF'ers as the starters. If some teams' have such a bad CF situation that they need to platoon or rotate, then why do we discount them when ranking JBJ's ranking? He was 8th best out of the 15 AL team's starting CF'ers last year. I get your point about counting only "qualified" CF'ers, but I think you are penalizing JBJ just because he's so damn good on defense, he gets more PAs than some of those on the list with 354-503 PAs.
  4. I'd dump Thornburg & Brewer before I'd think about doing the same with Hembree.
  5. He always starts each off well, and gets hyped. Let's wait until October to see what we think he'll be worth.
  6. The top 17 AL OF'ers are basically the starters (15 teams). If I reduce the PAs to 354+ to get the number to exactly 15, JBJ placed 8th out of 15.
  7. We certainly have some higher hopes on a few key players. I'm hopeful and cautiously optimistic, but I do wish we had a couple blue chippers in the system.
  8. These are the 2019 Yankee PA leaders: 106 Voit 101 Gardner 100 Torres 96 LeMahieu 89 Judge (on IL) 73 Frazier (now on IL) 53 Tauchman 49 Urshela 49 Sanchez 42 Romine 41 Bird (IL) 39 Wade 26 Ford Less that 17 and on IL: Stanton, Andujar, Tulo & Higashioka IP Leaders 29 Tanaka 29 Paxton 26 German 26 Happ 15 CC 13 Ottavino 13 Holder 11 Cessa 10 Britton 10 Loaisiga 10 Chapman 8 Kahnle 8 Green 5 Harvery 3 Tarpley 0 Severino (IL)
  9. My guess is we go cheap at corner IF next year and just go with Devers, Chavis and Dalbec- maybe bringing Holt back as depth. If we reset, it makes sense. If we don't, but try to stay under the 2nd or max line, we will need the spending money elsewhere.
  10. The kid was hitting .975 and was 6th in team PAs.
  11. I don't see it that way. He hits better than most who he matches up against every day. He's a plus on offense in the same way JBJ is not "terrible" on offense (not counting this year's start).
  12. Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier!!! Frazier to the IL.
  13. .717 is not good, I agree, but it's not "terrible" for CF'ers. Only 22 CF'ers qualified last year. The AL CF OPS was .702 in 2018. Yes, there were better hitters who played CF last year, but JBJ was not terrible. He hit above the AL OPS for all CF'ers. I agree, that does not make him a "good" hitter or above average, but he was not terrible. JBJ placed 10th out of 17 AL CF'ers with 300+ PAs in 2018. Not good. Not terrible.
  14. Not at $6M. I'm not sure why we are the only team in MLB paying over $6M for both Moreland and Pearce. Players like them are making half that much on the open market.
  15. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/04/yankees-place-clint-frazier-on-10-day-il.html
  16. Even cherry-piking a worse sample size by not including 2015 and 2016, here's how JBJ ranks from 2017-2018: 24th out of 31 CF'ers with 850+ PAs (.721 was .019 from the league average of .740 and .039 from the mean of .760). That's not great, but it's close to the average and mean. His defense made up for the below average offense. If you count 2015 and 2016, he's above average. Of course, if he stays below .400, his defense does not make up for that kind of offense.
  17. This year, after like 30 games, yes, but why look at only that sample size? When has any 30 game sample size been a good predictor of what is to come? JBJ has been about an average CF hitter, even in his down years. He will likely be there again this year.
  18. Even if Dalbec is not good enough to make the roster, I'd move Devers to 1B. We lose over $13M in 1B cost this winter, so it will be time for the move. I see no improvement after having a little encouragement late last year.
  19. Yes. Holt is okay. I think all are still better choices than wasting a roster slot on Gorkys. If one of our 3 OF'ers goes on the IL, then maybe...
  20. I'm really close to totally advocating making Devers our 1Bman next year.
  21. Yes, and JBJ is not bad on offense, unless you think he will continue like this all year- which he won't.
  22. JD, Moreland, Pearce, Holt, Nunez and Lin all have OF experience.
  23. We'll see. You can't base assumptions on 30 games.
  24. .968 JD ("The Man") .921 Chavis (Nice start!) .900 Moreland (Typical April numbers) .862 Bogey (Steady Bogey) .819 Beni (On the rise) .799 Betts (Coming out of it) .725 Vaz (Keep this up!) .690 Devers (Time to catch on fire) .396 JBJ (up 29 points after last night) .360 Nunez (Just 46 PAs) .333 Pearce (Just 35 PAs) .243 Pedey (21 PAs) .273 Holt (19 PAs)
