  1. The Pivetta deal was not viewed as anything speacial. Schwarber got some buzz, and the injury was a concern, but he was a major offensive player then, too. The Abreu-Valdez trade was actually criticized by the "WIN NOW" posters, but was a very nice trade at the time, too. Yes, some liked Valdez more, and he has nice OPS numbers, but so what? It doesn't make Abreu chopped liver. Most baseball people knew Wilyer was the prize. The talk here in HOU was about "losing Abreu" for a catcher the manager wouldn't even make the FT guys over a .180 hitter.
  2. Yes, 0 to 0.0001 chance. That doesn't mean my idea is wrong.
  3. Pull the bandaid! DEMOTE DURAN!
  4. Can we give up reaching for reasons?
  5. For the hundreth time: I'm not making predictions when I give my opinion on what should happen. I know the Sox will not demote Duran.
  6. My point is DEMOTE DURAN. If we do, who plays LF v RHPs? Sub .500 Jones? .620 White? Platoon a LHB in LF with RHB White/Jones. Avoid using Masa in LF.
  7. Only 6 Sox players have a higher OPS than Wong and more PAs. His OPS is 86 points above Duran. Nuff said.
  8. My Duran plan in order: 1. Demote to AAA 2. Demote to bench as 4th OF/PR (not even PH, but yes on late inning defense for Yoshida) 3. Demote to full platoon and bat 9th (PH for him often) 4. DFA 5. Current plan: Keep batting 7th and playing FT or near FT
  9. The problem is Duran is not fine leaving in the line-up until the end of the year. This is today. The here and now. Duran sucks now. What's your plan.
  10. Another RHB, though. Jones and White are fine. We needed a LHB at the deadline for this very reason. Not getting one has led me to advocate doing something that goes against every bone in my body- put Yoshida in LF vs RHPs.
  11. I wouldn't say Abreu, Pivetta and Schwarber we "not much of anything," but Abreu was in a "sell" trade, Schwarber was a clear "buy" and Pivetta was during a sell deadline, when we traded Workman and Hembree and maybe Seabold was Bloom's real target.
  12. Gotta keep Rogers so demote Wong until Sept 1.
  13. That was the obvious plan for the LHB, in place of Yoshida, but also in case Duran flubbed up. Anthony might also be a reason we avoided getting a LH OF bat at the deadline and got White instead.
  14. Cora might be the main reason Duran is still here. Remember, he was apparently pulling Brez's stings according to one poster.
  15. So, you want him back? No Harrison, so no Durbin. Got it.
  16. Why are we going to great lengths trying to play a guy who has not earned anything more than a bench role?
  17. This isn't some Fredesque Rafaela-like bashing of a 4+ WAR player. Duran is the 7th worst fWAR player out of 142 qualifiers. His speed and defense keep him from being 3rd worst in MLB, which is where fangraph's places him on offense (which includes baserunning.) He's 42nd worst out of 300 players with 200+ PAs, but we play the guy everyday, so we double the negative impact some of the others do. Can we at least demote him to 9th in the order? I'd bench him or demote him to AAA, but why bat him even 7th?
  18. 10+22 is still less than 30. Plus, we can still DH Yoshida when White or Jones are in LF, which would be 30% of the games (when a lefty starts. ) I was just using over a full season as a comp tool. LF: Yoshida v R & White vs R &L and Jones v L DH: Yoshida v some R and some L and ____________ (anyone but Duran) This is one reason I questioned why we traded for a RHB OF'er. I guess they wanted a better platoon with Duran, when they should have looked to keep Jones v L and replace the Duran side of the platoon.
  19. Okay, but we are a deep team with actual secondary options.
  20. There's a rule that every team has to start a suckee?
  21. How many errors does Yoshida need to make to make up for the differential in hits from .270 to .200? It's 35 hits per 500 ABs. I doubt Yoshida makes even 10 errors or makes 15 less catches than Duran would have.
  22. You know you got my deepest respect, Max, but Duran sucks, badly. Maybe he can snap out of it, but it's been almost 1300 PAs at .701. How much longer do we wait?
