He's a better bat than Durbin, Mayer and others. Even as he slumps.

He was not my first choice. He seemed like the most attainable. That's the only reason. I do think he'll do better than he has recently. I'm not so sure about Durbin and Mayer.

So, that's your plan: play Duran everyday and bat him first. Got any other great ideas? It's nice to see you actually state a clear and specific idea. Somehow, if Duran ends up sucking, you'll still come back and claim you were right. Book it.

Of course, he was a great unknown from even before day 1. He's still a better defender than Story. It's not defending his bat, whaich has sucked, to say it's still been better than Story's, Durbin's, IKF's and Monasterio's. Has it not? (Note: I answered your question. 100% guarantee you won't answer mine, but will deflect, instead.) OPS+ 73 Mayer (sucks, yes) 67 Monasterio (sucks more) 52 Story (atrocious) 38 Durbin (off the charts horrific) 34 IKF (less than half of Mayer's)

-0.3 Story (102 PAs) -0.2 Monasterio (31) -0.1 Durbin (80) Okay, IP was not going to replace Story. Hell, Cora won't even move him to 2B, but how about giving him Durbin & Monatserio's 110 PAs? That's a +0.4 fWAR swap. +.4 is third best on the Sox (Rafaela)

He's light years better at bat than Durbin, Mayer and Story. Let's revisit this in October.

We needed two bats at Willson's level. Suarez and Gray were better pitcher adds than I expected. Oviedo and Durbin were okay additions and stabs in the dark, but not getting the second bat while keeping the logjam at OF/DH was the biggest error of the winter, IMO. -
At least I present my opinions instead of wishy washy statements that you twist to claim you were right, no matter what happens. At least I admit I'm wrong. (It was good to see you do it the other day for the first time ever.)

So, promote the biggest and longest slump bat to #1. Brilliant idea, as always. OBP for season: .361 Anthony .240 Duran Last 2 weeks: .314 Anthony .167 Duran The gap is widening, even as Anthony struggles.

My mindset going into this past winter was go top quality and not quantity. We had been doing quantity for long enough that I felt our 40 man was deep enough. 3 player (max 4.) 2B or 3B (Ideally SS with Story to 2B) 1B (Contreras was fine) SP Optional: another infielder or DH power bat or SP We got: 1B Contreras SP Suarez GREAT! But then we went quantity again: SP Gray SP Oviedo 3B/2B Durbin UT IKF & Monasterio Combine these last 4-5 players into 1 or 2, and... -

Mayer + Tolle plus a player or two from the Oviedo or Gray trades would likely have been enough. Or, trade Duran for prospects and flip some or all in the deal. Keep the Contreras trade & Suarez signing. Maybe even keep the Gray trade, but without Gray and IKF, maybe we sign Okamoto for 3B. 1B Contreras 2B Story SS Neto 3B/DH Okamoto UT/3B Durbin
