I get it, but you said "at the time," and at the time he was being paid more than any other closer, so I don't see the word "gem" as fitting.

I like Dalbec way better than Chavis, but he is not too 100 like many DD traded away. I'm okay with moving Devers to 1B to maximize the defensive value of Dalbec, but my guess is you and the Sox disagree. I'm fine with that choice. That being said, Dalbec is likely more valuable as a 3Bman to another team than to us. Why is that so hard to understand? Also, I'm not for further decimating the farm. If I trade Dalbec it would be for another young player but at another position.

In terms of what the other top closers closers were getting, there were many getting way less than CK. I think he was top 1 or 2 his first year and 3 to 5 his last 2 years. Yes, it would have been a good FA price, and maybe even a "gem" of a FA deal but several others were more cost effective, so they had gem deals

It's not "all of a sudden." Stop, please. THose who have been defending Ben and critical of DD on trading prospects are not against ever trading prospects, especially ones that may be blocked, may be over-rated (in our opinions) or who we want to maybe trade for another very young player at a higher need position. Trading Dalbec for another prospect is is not the same as trading 4 for a vet. Nobody is saying "wait forever" on every single prospect. I'm glad we "waited" on Betts, Bogey & Devers.

Yes, but who knows why anyone would leave that much money on the table. It was a shock with Dempster, and it would be with Pedey, too. That was the point made.

If you bundle Chavis with a vet and get a young player that is better than Chavis, how is that bad? Chavis + Hembree for a better RP'er. Chavis + Dalbec for a young 1Bman who can actually play 1B and has a better bat.

JD (if he doesn't opt out) Betts Not likely any takers unless we include a bunch of cash: Price Eovaldi (Sale?) Total overhaul looking at 2022 (highly unlikely): ERod Workman Barnes (Beni?)

Yes, but they are on the steep rise. They are young. They are good. They have one of the best farms, if not the very best.

I like the Card's uniform. That's about all the good I can say about them, other than they rolled over for us in the WS.

They could play him at 1B, but you are right, his value is more at 3B.

Very true. There's no reason to expect or hope he retires, but then again, I felt the same about Dempster.

LOL. Dalbec is not good enough for anyone to start a shitstorm over. Also, two guys critical of trading too many prospects are suggesting trading Dalbec might be best.

Mueller is certainly one of my faves at 3B, along with Petrocelli & Beltre (too short-lived). -

I'm not sure moving Devers is even being discussed, but the idea does have some merit. It's probably more likely we trade Dalbec, keep Devers at 3B and just sign a super cheap 1Bman to bridge us to the next serious ring attempt. I know Ockimey is a long shot, but he hits righties really well, and I'm done with Travis hopes.
