  1. If you look at what much lesser and/or older pitchers have gotten recently, you won't be surprised if he makes $11M/1 or $20M/2.
  2. We used an enlarged pen all this year. With 26 men next year, the need for 210 IP is lessened to a small extent. It's not that I don't value IP. I was a huge Porcello defender up until 2019. 12 starts with 5 or more runs allowed is just too much for the extra IP to outweigh, IMO. Yes, the IP had value, but overall, it's not worth $8M. If he pitches like 2018, like he might, I'd offer more, but he's now on the wrong side of 30, and I think it's time to move on.
  3. 1) 4.75 was better than Porcello's 2019. 2) Even adjusting to inflation, he wasn't about to make $8-10M a year. 3) Part of Wake's bad numbers was because we often did not have a catcher that could catch the knuckleball very well. Yes, I defended him towards the end, too, when his ERA did go over 5.00, but I was not expecting 5.00+ those years. I also did a painstakingly difficult study of every earned run he allowed one year (maybe his second to last year) and found many of the runs allowed were on infield and bloop hits and WPs. I also did a study where I found the SP'er who started the game after Wake had an ERA about 0.50 lower than when not starting after Wake. No, I would not pay the 2009-2011 Wake $8-11M to pitch for us in 2020.
  4. 210 IP of crap is not helpful. 200+ IP of good pitching is. Which Porcello shows up in 2020?
  5. I cheered when the Yanks overpaid Jacoby by what I felt was by at least double his worth.
  6. I'm fine keeping Devers at 3B, but if we are going to use Dalbec next year, and they think he's much better on defense at 3B, the move makes sense. I'm not sure anything can confuse with Devers, but there is a risk, agreed.
  7. I think he'll get $8M/1 with an easy $2M bonus based on GS'd and/or IP.
  8. You seem to put a lot of stock in that 17 IP to end the season. I do think there's a good chance Porcello bounces back next year. I think some team will pay him $10M/1 for 2020. I hope it's not us.
  9. What if he's way better?
  10. With Ockimey, it would be all about a platoon, so showing his overall numbers matters little.
  11. I remember many mentioning Allen.
  12. Why hope someone takes him. He'd be a nice depth player in the minors.
  13. Luck had nothing to do with it. He never even tried to call off Beltre, and whn you play in the short LF of Fenway, you should know that is essential. That injury has not been why he has missed so many games in the following years.
  14. A nice winter project.
  15. If Ellsbury is healthy... That's a good one! Ha Ha ha!
  16. Because, if he has a good 2020, he'll be looking at a much bigger & longer deal, perhaps his last meaningful big contract.
  17. Our 40 man roster is very weak in depth, right now, I'd bet 10-14, not counting Kopech and Moncada.
  18. Steve Pearce Chris Young
  19. Unless we do some wheeling and dealing, we may not even be able to afford a $10M/2 offer. My guess is, he may be looking for a 1 year deal to reset his value- maybe with incentives, or a longer deal with an opt out, in case he does very well in 2020. I would not offer $16M/2.
  20. Winter Meetings December 8-12. December 12th is the rule 5 draft. Maybe nothing happens before then.
  21. Sure, we have an opening at 1B!
  22. Don't even joke about it!
  23. As the 39 man roster stands right now, who would make the 26 man roster, next season, assuming no trades, signings or DFA's? My view: IL or 60 Day DL: Pedroia SP: Sale, Rodriguez, Price, Eovaldi, Johnson RP: Workman, Barnes, D Hernandez, Walden, Taylor, Osich, Hembree C: Vazquez, Leon 1B: Chavis (2B), Dalbec (3B) 2B: Hernandez, Lin (SS/OF) 3B: Devers SS: Bogaerts LF: Benintendi, Travis (1B) CF: Bradley RF: Betts DH: Martinez 40 Man: SP: Velazquez, Shawaryn, Weber, Reyes, K Hart RP: Brasier, Brewer, Poyner, Lakins, Kelley, Aybar 2B/SS: Chatham 3B: Dalbec OF: Wilson No options remaining: Vaz, Workman, Hembree, Johnson, Travis, Lin, Eovaldi, Leon, Weber & Osich (Strange list. Some of these guys will have to go, even if JBJ is traded.)
