  1. I think Price might get $40M/3, if he was a FA this winter.
  2. I'm thinking only the Dodgers could afford that package, unless we throw serious money in with the deal, which kind of defeats the purpose.
  3. I'd do either deal in a heartbeat.
  4. Now, that would be an indisputable "cliff!"
  5. Really? ERod's run support: 7.05 Porky's run support: 7.04 (Point well taken with Sale at 3.90 runs per game.) Porcello got plenty of run support, and the team actually saved his ass many times. They went 18-14 in his starts- not bad, when you consider he let up 5 or more runs in 12 starts. In half his games, he let up 4 or more runs (or 3 in 5 or less innings). The Sox scored 7.04 runs in his starts, including... 11 games with 9 or more runs 18 games with 5 or more runs scored Only 6 games with 3 or less runs scored
  6. If we do dump price and/or Eovaldi, then yes, the equation has changed and signing an innings eater makes more sense. I guess my mindset is geared more towards only looking at acquiring younger players that look to help the Sox beyond 2020. If we need to sign a bridge player here and there to "carry us over," so we won't be terrible while we retool, then fine.
  7. Was that "facility" the same place Kraft went to?
  8. They may trade JBJ and have current offers, so maybe you are reading too much into this.
  9. We also get to replace these innings pitched and PAs: 174 Porcello 5.52 54 Cashner 6.20 31 J Smith 5.81 20 Shawaryn 9.74 19 Thornburg 7.71 15 Chacin 7.36 8 Kelley 8.61 6 Wright 8.53 PAs 335 Moreland .835 295 Holt .771 174 Nunez .548 99 Pearce .503 Maybe JBJ & Leon
  10. To me, we need to spend our very limited budget on several players, and signing Porcello to $8M a year would take up all of our spending budget and leave nothing for the pen, 1B, C and a replacement for JBJ- not that $8M will fill all those slots.
  11. Something like this should be part of the next deal.
  12. Or, they know he will not be selected, and they took the risk of losing him. I'm sure he's not someone they have big plans for, but I still think he may end up being a decent ML platoon player someday. He does very well vs RHPs, and that's the bigger part of any platoon. Splits vs RHPs 2019 AAA: .898 (21 HRs in 287 ABs) 2018 AAA .793 (5 Hrs in 70 ABs) AA .968 (13 HRs in 205 ABs) That's an OPS over .900 with 39 HRs in 562 ABs. He may very well get a look at some point.
  13. You misunderstand my position. I think he will get $9-11M/1 or $17-20M/2, but I do not want us to be the ones paying that much. I thought what we had to pay Price was "too high" but necessary. I do not think signing Porcello is necessary or pragmatic.
  14. Is 3B different in the minors? It's not complicated to keep Dalbec at 3B, if he is the real deal and is viewed as a much better defender. I'm not saying I'm for the move, and I'd like Dalbec to show he can hit ML pitching before I move Devers anywhere.
  15. I doubt we could get both of these guys with Peerson...maybe one is asking too much.
  16. MLBTR... The Red Sox reached out to free-agent utilityman Brock Holt about a new deal after the season, but there haven’t been discussions since they hired Chaim Bloom as their chief baseball officer Oct. 28, Holt told Barstool Sports’ Section 10 podcast (hat tip to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com). Although other teams have contacted Holt, he revealed there’s “nothing serious” brewing between him and any clubs. MLBTR predicts a two-year, $8MM contract for the versatile Holt, who’s coming off back-to-back solid seasons at the plate. The 31-year-old batted .297/.369/.402 in 295 PA in 2019, which is looking more and more like his last season as a member of the Red Sox.
  17. MLB.com suggests this trade: Betts to LAD for Joc Pederson, Dustin May (RHP and their 2nd ranked prospect on the MLB Pipeline) & Keibert Ruiz (C and 3rd ranked)
  18. So, does that mean the Crawford dump trade was bad for BOS? AGon 9.4 WAR Crawford 4.3 WAR Punto 1.5 WAR Beckett 0.6 WAR 15.8 Total (No rings for LAD) Napoli 5.5 Victorino 4.9 Dempster 0.5 Rubby de la Rosa 0.2 Allen Webster -0.3 10.8 Total (1 ring for BOS)
  19. That wasn't my point. We made a great choice letting Jacoby go. That choice is still great, despite us wasting the savings on HRam and Pablo. (BTW, we have paid other players since Ellsbury left, and one could argue that was the savings money.
  20. That's a reach. It was a reach to even equate the Ellsbury signing with HRam + Pabloato. Then, a reach from the reach. How's this for a reach? We got Kopech for the comp pick from Ells and Sale for Kopech.
  21. Indeed, but we're done with their deals. The Yanks still pay Jacoby $26M for 2020.
  22. I hope all 29 teams, beyond the Sox, were involved and get their first 3 draft picks taken away!
  23. Yes, but it is $5M more. Makes me think the $11M/1 projected value for Porcello might be close, too.
  24. CWS sign Grandal to $18.25M x 4 years! It does not appear like salaries are going down or leveling off.
