  1. soxprospects doesn't have Hernandez or Richards listed among the 40 names.
  2. It's easy to find a platoon for him at min cost. Even Chavis, who hits RHPs (.740) better than LHPs (.699) could fill that role. I do like the idea of a Beni-Renfroe LF platoon, but our CF need outweighs that plus. We could just sign Schoop and have the best of both worlds, but the Beni-Frazier trade does not add to the budget as signing Schoop would. (I'm not sure signing Moreland to cover for a Dalbec implosion would be a good fit for a LF platoon with Renfroe.)
  3. How about 2 years of Beni for 2 years of Adam Frazier (2B)- making slightly less than Beni? (PIT can flip Beni to someone else to save money.) Hernandez plays CF, Renfroe LF and Verdugo RF.
  4. I wouldn't mind either but would prefer Moreland, however, 1B is pretty far down on my positional need wish list. I'm leaning towards signing a 2Bman over a CF'er now, as I have convinced myself that Hernandez is better defensively in CF than 2B. That is priority #2 or #3 to adding another pitcher or two or three or ... 1B is like 5th on my list- tops.
  5. Does that affect the lux tax number? Cots has it at $7M both years on their tax table.
  6. La Stella gets $19M/3 with SFG. Many had him higher than Enrique.
  7. If the Mets are still looking to cut salary to afford Bauer, would they do this deal? Familia & Crow-Armstrong for Beni
  8. That was an old trade. I meant to pull the 3 way with STL, where they get Vaz & Beni and we get Bader and Stallings.
  9. I was saying that those were the only two non top prospects anyone seemed to "shed a tear" over. Dubon has earned his way into a FT role, now. He started 46 games, last year (33 in CF).
  10. Would TB accept this trade offer? (accepted on BTV) Beni & Pivetta for Kiermaier & Yarbrough How about one of these? Chavis & A Ramirez for Adam Frazier (2B) Groome, Murphy, Arauz & Zeferjahn for Frazier & Brault Beni, Groome & Pivetta for Patrick Sandoval-P (liked to disliked 8-4) Beni & Pivetta for Cal Quantrill-P (6-6) This one was liked 16 to disliked 5: Beni to ATL for Inciarte (CF) +$4M and Kyle Wright (SP) I like this 3-way: to BOS: Bader (OF), Stallings ©, Frazier (2B) & Brault (P) to PHI: Vaz, Beni & Duran to PIT: Herrera & Arauz
  11. Due to so many 1 year deals and option years. the Sox have the ability to free up a ton of "budget space," next winter: (Lux Tax Dollars) $13.8M Pedey $10M Richards (+ option year) $8.9M Ottavino $8.3M ERod $5M Perez (+ option year) $4.5M Barnes $4.5M Vaz (+ option year) $1.9M Andriese (+ option year) After 2022: (see option years above) $22M JD $20M Bogey (if he opts out) $17M Eovaldi $7M E Hernandez $6M Beni $2M Plawecki
  12. Two years of control is way more than the two months teams get with deadline trades and twice as much as many winter deals for 1 year-controlled pitchers. Other recent trades of good pitchers seems to be showing less returns than a few years ago.
  13. Thanks. I forgot. I'm kinda glad we didn't go there, so maybe my argument is losing steam.
  14. Agreed, and not many Sox fans who value prospects got all moist over losing the Basabes and Beeks of the system, although one could argue Logan Allen and Dubon kinda fit that bill. Moncada Kopech Margot Espinoza Not many were for trying to keep everyone of our top prospects, either. It was the fact that we traded away all the best, except Devers.
  15. Realistic, at this point? Lux line an issue: Schoop and/or Colome (maybe have to trade some salary to make it work?) Lux tax a minor concern: Miller/Schoop, Porcello AND Colome. Lux tax not a big concern: Odorizzi, Colome and/or Wong.
  16. Maybe the trend is that good pitchers don't bring back top prospects, anymore. Maybe, I'm behind the times. (It wouldn't be the first time I discovered that about myself.)
  17. I understand why he's doing it, especially at 2B and CF/OF, but teams can always use the stability of having a good pitcher under team control for 3 or more years- like Odorizzi. Not many closer types got 3+ year deals, this winter. Did any?
  18. Options for just one more year. We have made no deals longer than 1-2 years. I find it doubtful, Bloom sees no available player he likes enough to commit to 3 or more years. Either the cost was too high, or the budget constraints and needs to fill so many gaps made it all but impossible to spend enough on someone worthy of 3+ years.
  19. I'm not sure what other offers were out there, if any, and if there were not many, then maybe his health issues are deeper than I imagined. I'm not expert on prospects, even our own, and I'm sure Ben likes something he sees in a few of the guys he got back. I have also said maybe my evaluation of Taillon is way too high. I do see pitchers like Kluber and Richards getting paid way more than Taillon, and certainly prospects traded have value, even if they are not highly ranked. Four prospects is a lot. I guess we'll have to wait and see how this pans out. Maybe Taillon is toast, and I'll eat my words. He does have 2 years to give some significant value. Maybe one or two of those four prospects amounts to something useful or even special. I'm not sure, if there is anything more to say. We all have our opinions, and yours and others who think this was a good deal for PIT all have merit. I rate the trade as A+ for Yanks and C- for PIT based on just about no knowledge of what else was on the table and what budget constraints Ben is under.
  20. Do you like the idea of going after a 2Bman NOT CF'er and using Hernandez where he seems to be better defensively (CF)?
  21. I expected at least 2 deals like this- deals that help in 2021 and also 2022 and beyond. Now, I'm wondering, if we do just one! It's like we are punting to 2022 with all these one year deals. Now, this may work out, as maybe we can trade some of these one year players, beef up our farm, and then have a lot of budget space to splurge next winter. Even so, how can it hurt to add one three year guy?
  22. Dominoes left standing... Trevor Bauer (NYM made recent offer) Marcell Ozuna Didi Gregorius Jake Odorizzi Justin Turner Joc Pederson Jackie Bradley Nelson Cruz James Paxton Taijuan Walker Kolten Wong Trevor Rosenthal Yadier Molina Adam Wainwright Alex Colome Rick Porcello Cole Hamels Mark Melancon Chris Archer Shane Green, Jake McGee, Matt Moore, Jonathan Schoop, Kevin Pillar, Brett Gardner, Jonathan Villar, Brad Miller, Joakim Soria, Brandon Kintzler, Mitch Moreland
  23. Prospects added to soxprospects.com's top prospects list since the end of the 2019 season: 2. Downs (Betts trade) 9. Seabold (with Pivetta in Workman/Hembree trade) 13. Yorke (draft) 15. Rosario (Moreland trade) 17. Potts (Moreland trade) 19. Jordon (draft) 21. Wong (Betts trade) 23. Wallace (Pillar trade) 27. German (with Ottavino trade) 31. Whitlock (rule 5) 33. Drohan (draft) 37. Koss (Aybar trade) 39. Bleis (IFA) Most newly acquired prospects are down the list, but... there are 2 in the top 9 (22%) 8 in the top 23 (35%) 13 in the top 39 (33%) My top 25 might have more newbees: 1. Downs 2. Casas 3. Mata 4. Dalbec 5. Houck 6. Jimenez 7. Song 8. Seabold 9. Ward 10. Duran 11. Rosario 12. ARamirez 13. Bello 14. Potts 15. Wong 16. Bonaci 17. Yorke 18. Lugo 19. Jordan 20. Groome 21. Murphy 22. Arauz 23. Wallace 24. Whitlock 25. German
  24. soxprospects.com placed Frank German in the 27th slot- right behind Bazardo and a couple ahead of Feltman, then Wilson & Whitlock.
  25. How about we sign Jonathan Schoop & Alex Colome? 1. E Hernandez CF 2. Verdugo RF 3. Bogey SS 4. Devers 3B 5. JD DH 6. Beni-Renfroe LF 7. Dalbec 1B 8. Vazquez C 9. Schoop 2B
