  1. Did you forget all the comebacks? Go back and look at those game threads. They all said about the same as this. That being said, we better keep it at 1 run.
  2. Wasn't really a bad pitch. Shoulda been an out. We're running into outs. Gifts after gifts.
  3. Walking Gardner means you don't have it, tonight.
  4. 1. Too costly. 2. Not much of an upgrade. No inside info needed to say no. (Actually, don't even answer the phone call on Rizz.)
  5. On a winning team, yes, but mediocre, to me, is a number 3. (BTW, he's 4.4 not 4.6 career- a significant difference) Anyway you look at it, here are some numbers. 151 pitchers had 800+ IP from 2009-2020. Here's where Porcello placed in the categories: You might think 1-30 is a number 1, 31-60 #2, 61-90 #3, 91-120 #4 and 121-150 #5... 19. fWAR at 29.6 81. xFIP at 4.04 91. WHIP at 1.32 98. ERA- at 102 He looks like a #3 to me-maybe even a #2. You call a #3 "Good." Me, too.
  6. So, is mediocre middle 20%? Out of 150 SP'ers, 5 per team x 30 teams, he'd be #60-90 in most major categories?
  7. Many of the average to better players have one great year. If you take theirs away, too, now a 2.0 is good, not ok.
  8. No to Scherzer or Rizzo.
  9. Yes, of course. I do think much more time is needed with Duran, and Dalbec needs a longer look he may not get with the Sox. Cordero and Chavis could benefit by playing everyday, but that ain't happening.
  10. Marwin's flexibility allows Cora to PH and use all the other bench players where he pleases without worrying about someone getting hurt, later in the game. Since he can play almost every position but catcher, being on the back of the bench is best.
  11. Great news! I had expectation of him starting in the bigs, this year before he got hurt.
  12. He started in the bigs at a very young age and went straight to 200 IP/yr and never stopped.
  13. FIP really penalizes pitch to contact pitchers with low K rates. I like fWAR more than bWAR, but they both have flaws. Probably an average of the two is closer to reality.
  14. He's better than many teams' 2 or 3 starters and most teams' #4. IMO, he's a bargain at $6M/1. Still more of the season to go, and if he keep pitching like his last 8 starts, maybe my mind will change.
  15. 8 days is not enough time to finish any evaluation, but we may know more.
  16. I totally agree, but at one point he was 5th or 6th in team PAs. That's not right. His real value is probably not even playing, but allowing Cora to use others knowing he has Marwin to cover any emergency situation that arises.
  17. I think fWAR values IP way more than bWAR, even if those IP'd are not all that good.
  18. He's one of the best #5 starters in MLB.
  19. I just went by the metrics and the very few games I saw him play- mostly in the playoffs.
  20. 3.2 IP with 0 ERs might not be good, but to me, it's not "bad."
  21. I was certainly impressed with his 3 starts in 2020 (23 IP), but his history before than made me think he was probably more like Beeks than anything better. He could be a huge boost, if he keeps it up. Then, the Sale boost might be just enough to get us to the WS. Once there, I like our chances, even though we will probably be the dogs.
